The company MUST recycle successful IPs from the past like Harry Potter because it's simply too much of a risk otherwise. They also MUST get any ESG-score bux that are possible and they MUST make a show out of it to drum up attention. The people who pay for Disney+ and Hulu etc are at stake here. The kind of schlep disney adult who does nothing else must be pandered to. There is no new significant audience for professional film, vidya, etc forthcoming. Millennials see the new Harry Potter tv show the same way they see the new Lord of the Rings or the new Hunger Games etc. They have sparse children of their own and this is a way they can see a school play with their favorite actors in each role. It doesn't matter that Snape is pale in the books and the actor looks like Dante in the movies. What matters is that Millennials get to see new attention given to their beloved IP and also get to see a darling little actor dress up for the school play and then afterwards they can talk to each other about how good their lives were back in the 2000s. You would be an asshole if you criticized the little kids in a school play for being cast badly. That's why they think you're an asshole for criticizing media companies for including these incomprehensible characters. Everyone wants something low-effort and sloppish as an excuse to get together and socialize. The Odyssey has black casting in it because it's slop and they want slop. You're expecting Ben-Hur when there simply isn't the budget or demand for it
