What was the shareware game scene of the pre-Steam era of computer gaming like in your country? In Finland we had dozens of great games.

>>220928961>Death Rallyfuck, I spent like hundreds of hours playing the demo of that game as a kidI always dreamed about playing the full version but it was impossible to find anywhere
>>220930855I only had only the demo too, despite it being a Finnish game. I played Micro Machines 2 Turbo Tournament on my Sega Mega Drive instead. In hindsight it was the better game. The shareware model had one big flaw: my dad would never accept sending money through mail to receive a code to unlock the full version of a shareware game.
>>220931269Many years later when I finally got internet connection I found the full version on some site, run it on DOSBox and beat it in one evening, then never played again
>sharewareno such thing here. they just sold pirated games here
I only remember Liero from the early 2000s desu
>>220928961I played a shitton of finnish free games in the early aughts, Ville Mönkkönen made good ones.We had a lot of games, and an indie game competition hosted by an alcohol company, which resulted in some pretty decent games.https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becherovka_Game
>>220931356before we got internet in our house I just downloaded emulators and snes roms on library computers and transfered them home on 3,5" diskettes. I played a lot of games that way
>>220931539>Ville Mönkkönen made good ones.Understated. Mönkkönen was a pioneer of freeware games. He seems to have discontinued his own site now and all his games are hosted only on internetarchive. Shame.
>>220930855it's literally on steam FOR FREE
>>220934002are you retarded? there was no steam when I was a kid, no internet connection even
>>220934115>are you retarded?america flag, he is retarded
>>220928961There was a company who started to capitalize on it and later became a regular publisher.Didn't know death rally was shareware, I read about liero and it's lost source code.
>>220930855Try to get a copy of cd-mix 8, the ISO is available in archive.org.
not many brazilian games, but shareware was everywhere in the 90s. A few years ago I was checking a cd from 1994 I found in my drawer last week and it was filled with that stuff. I should probably upload that crap to archive.org
I played a top-down shooter in the late 90s where you play as a space chicken and every level began with a bible quote
>>220934385>A few years ago I was checking a cd from 1994 I found in my drawer last week and it was filled with that stuffgod I loved doing thisback in 90s, my dad was collecting all the PC magazines he could get his hands on. this resulted with possesion of hundreds of CDs with demo games. as as kid I would install and check all these hundreds of games, one by one. it was like discovering magic
>>220934115>>220934262I think he may be suggesting that you have the opportunity to play the full version NOW.
