I know that's nothing most of you (especially firsties) but for me it's almost a year's salary. Anyway, he says it's part of my inheritance and he'll give me more if I can prove I'm smart/wise with money. So what should I do with it? Should I spend it on something or invest or what? To be honest I'm not great with money or stocks, I just kind of leave it in the bank to depreciate (I already lost money in bank LTFs).What would you spend $20K on in your country? >inb4 stupidly rich Americans saying they'd buy a steak dinner or a trip to Yellowstone Park, etc.
>>220961180Give it to me
Just put it in a HYSA or an index fund
>>220961193What the fuck is that? Is that like US treasuries Also should I buy US treasuries? I hear it has good returns.
An ETF will almost certainly make more than you would with less risk but 20k (even close to) isn't enough to live on passive income, anyway just put it on something with a decent history and fuhgeddaboudit until you actually need money
>>220961227There's so many things to put money in, I don't know how to decide what makes the most sense. And I already have a job so I'm not looking to make passive income but at least not losing value would be ideal.
>>220961273stop asking for financial advice on 4chan u inbred moron ur father trusted u with money and tbf he made a big mistake
>>220961180put it in a global ETF and forget about it until you need a house
>>220961340>he made a big mistakeHaha. Yeah.>>220961363I'm seeing a lot of ETF recommendations so I guess I should do that.
>>220961220If you spend it, you're retarded. If you have access to indices that track US markets, that's what you should put your money into. US bonds are also a great, guaranteed return that do even better during economic downturn. You have fewer options than an American, but you can still make money off our markets.
Get yourself a bachelor degree in accounting. It is going to be a lucrative field in thailand.
>>220961376>>220961400Also, sorry, but do NOT put it into an ETF that tracks global markets. You should pick a US market. If you track global countries, you completely lose currency advantage because you will be facing serious headwinds on the sell due to having to convert your gains back into local currency. Investing in international markets is only something you do when you have a need to diversify your portfolio and want to hedge against a downturned US market. Thai Baht is already weak compared to the dollar, so you gain a headwind when converting back over enough time. If none of that makes sense, that's fine. Just ask gpt or Claude to list 3 etfs that track the US S&P that a Thai person could invest in, and then pick one.
>>220961467No offense but I probably shouldn't follow your advice. I don't know a lot but I do know the baht is stronger against the dollar than it's been in four years. It's actually a huge problem for us because it affects our exports.
>>220961180>I know that's nothing most of you (especially firsties) but for me it's almost a year's salary.> earning 1500 a year in thailandwtf are you a politician's son?
>>220961180I'd say invest it. buy a property but only if you plan to live where you are long term. My parents gave me the rest of the money that they had planned for my college since I got a scholarship and its been sitting in investments and is worth 2.5x times what is was worth when I graduated.
>>220961578That's lower middle income salary...
>>220961601I meant to bold "only if you plan to live there long term" I fell for the buy a house meme and now if I want to get out of it I'll have to dip into my college fund money to get out of it.
>>220961601Property here market isn't at its greatest right now and we already own enough of it (I'm living on one of our properties).
>>220961611bro the average salary in your country less than 500 usdanyway buy global stocks etf and forget this is really the best move for you if you dont want to get into that stuff>>220961625>(I'm living on one of our properties).you have a cute sister by chance? I want to marry into a rich family to dilute my proletarian genes a bit
>>220961180invest in a small business. of course it's better if it eventually succeeds but even if it fails, as long as it was not a spectacular fail, your dad will know you're ready to manage some money responsibly.t. my parents did that with me and after a couple of failed businesses I eventually had one work
>>220961625gotcha, definitely wouldn't fall for the buy a house meme then. If you are confident in the future of Thailand then maybe just buy an index fund base on these https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SET50_Index_and_SET100_Index
>>220961645>bro the average salary in your country less than 500 usdYeah, it's called the working class.
>>220961180Money cant always buy happiness. That is why you see so many celebrities doing drugs and killing themselves. One of my dads friends was a millionaire and was angry all the fucking time. He was miserable despite having so much money,
>>220961666Congrats, sounds like you made them proud.>>220961691I was fairly confident right up until the energy crisis.
You have a great dad, my dad stole all the money I was to inherit from my grandparents and I won't inherit anything after him either because he started a new family
>>220961845Wtf I'm sorry. Why would he do that?
>>220961506You stupid brown retard. Look up the exchange rate. Your local purchasing power is irrelevant, all that matters is that 1 Baht is less than 1 dollar. Go be a stupid brown faggot on another board. You try to help these people and they just constantly choose the path of retardation.
>>220961180>but for me it's almost a year's salary.anon wtf20k USD is waaaaay more than a year's salary. is like 2/3 years
>>220962010>all that matters is that 1 Baht is less than 1 dollarAlright bro.>>22096209520k is like half what the average firstie makes in a month.
