You don't get fucked as badly if your neighbor sucks when you live in a detached house versus sharing a wall. That's what it all boils down to.

I am not, but I think they should not be uber strict. I think its a good idea to have areas be primarily x or y, but with a few exceptions like a convenience store here and a dentist there. That's alright. They take up more space (per calorie) than potatoes. So you have the space, but utilize it for something else, but still productive so it is good. The judgement comes from 1. Not having the space to begin with and 2. Not utilizing it (if you have it) for anything productive.

honestly, the main thing that makes them look dystopian is the lack of trees, but they clearly planted them so in about 10 years it should look a lot less depressing
>>
>>221046691
Most of the suburbs people like to show tend to be in the southwest. You can't really grow trees there, the fact that they have suburbs in such arid environments is amazing, but they're way more expensive to maintain. My suburb looks a bit like your pic, but with more irregular tree density. It's especially nice when there's no HOA and people do their own thing with their gardens.

>>

>>221046922
I assume this. I live in the northeast and never see suburbs like are usually posted here. Trees are everywhere and if anything we have too many and they fall over and break shit when a nor'easter storm comes. But its more of a hassle to cut them down a lot of the times than anything else. If you move 10 feet outside of any developed zone its forest (and it continues to be for 500 miles.

So I guess those suburbs are a regional thing.

I especially like driving through boston andsome of the nicer places around it which has a whole bunch of architectural styles. You get some of the colorful uniquely designed Victorian houses, some neoclassical stately red brick with white columns, and some older early 1800s/late 1700s georgian style houses. OFC its not all like that and there are some shitter places as well, but I do like a lot of the nicer places. They dont look as kitche or as overbearing as some other "nice" places I have seen.

I'm lucky to "inherit"* my mum's 3 apartment house, I get to have my own space for free instead of continuing to deal with noisy neighbours who smoke.

* Ownership is transferred to me at no cost, in exchange for my mum having a life-long right to live in this house rent-free.
This does mean having to care for an elderly lady later, but I'm already doing that with my grandma right now and it's fine. And I get some gibs to help with that, plus if she becomes disabled or demented, there's additional help I can get.

Suburban infrastructure is extremely expensive to maintain since it is spread out so much, and highly suburban cities have had to increase their property taxes since there are no dense areas to subsidize the rest of it. The only upside to those insane property taxes is boomers seething that they actually have to pay something for their expensive ass houses they got for 20% of the price they are at now.

Honestly, that must be the least annoying part. You make a trip once a week and that's it. You don't have to worry about the weight or the amount of groceries because you have the car. In my case, the supermarket is seven minutes away, but I have to strain my shoulders every time I go there (let alone when I have to do a big shop)
Perhaps the worst thing of all is the lack of third spaces. Not a restaurant or anything nearby to connect with the community.

Genuinely. If you want urban life, live in an apartment instead of runing km2 of land with dead suburbia. If you want rural life, live in a village in a house where you have actual space around you. Living in suburbia you still have neighbours around you just like in a block, but you take away urban space. Rowhomes are the most atrocious version of this, privacy of blocks with space hogging of suburban homes.

>>221049991
Maybe it's better they're closer together, it leaves more space for nature and punishes suburbanites with lack of privacy. Personally I'd add a moat or a wall or two.

I got my degree in a third world shithole where the walls of my apartment had no insulation, packs of stray dogs barked every night, and my upstairs neighbor was literally a buddhist monk who would bang a bunch of fucking bowls together every week to banish ghosts or some shit. That part sucked but in hindsight I'd rather go back to that and be able to walk to anywhere in the city I wanted and go out and do things and buy shit in the middle of the night by just walking downstairs instead of living in the middle of fucking nowhere having to drive 30 minutes minimum to do anything at all. The isolation of american life is not healthy. You just fantasize about not having neighbors because you're a loser who stays inside all day doing nothing anyway.
>>
>>221060979
Have you considered going back to your third world shithole? That's the place you belong in mind and spirit, clearly, probably in IQ too.

Nice headcannon btw, and it's not that I want "isolation" per se", I want a simple and tranquil lifestyle, and if I have to get in my car to get to my friends or family it would be a good trade off, sleep quality would certainly improve.

I just went to school there. The thing people never mention about suburbs is that they will inevitably be flooded by niggers and spics and probably indians too once the boomers finally all die off so even the one thing that people say suburbs are good for will eventually not even be a factor, but you'll still be stuck there and poor as shit since the cost of living is so high.
>>
>>221053631
Chain restaurants are fairly popular even still, and especially if you are selling $1.2M houses to "career focused" people or retired boomers, likely these are not enthusiastic home cooks. They go out (or get takeout/delivery) at least a few nights a week. Considering that the nearest actual city is 45 minutes away, it's worth noting that they can find restaurants/grocery stores/probably other shopping as well much closer than that.

I know Nords are known for autism but this is not a situation dependent on reading social cues, you quite literally spelled it out "...plagiarised from Sweden..."

no less than 15 miles away in a massive parking lot with no trees in it that heats up in the summer and actually makes the surrounding area like 10 degrees warmer
Suburban city planners are demented. They build their communities for cars, not people. There is no plaza, no parks. They might even just have their groceries shipped to them. Look at this shit. It's like a pig farm

Dentistry is cheap even if you pay for it yourself, it only gets expensive if you don't clean your mouth properly and don't do yearly checkups.
I pay less than 100 EUR per year to dentists.

That would be rural. Suburbs specifically need the urban centre to function, preferably with cars or other fast transport system to haul people between unproductive subrub and wherever the real work happens.

Snownigga have actually ever been in a village? The 10 detached farmer houses are not villages. Its a complete hive.

Watch the heidi anime if you want to know the difference:
Row of houses with hive living in it=village
Heidi's grandpa living in a lone cottage in the mountain=not village

In this case, the German's example is closer to the rule rather than the exception, considering most European cities are built to be walkable
