England is London. Everyone living in England actually lives in London - just depends on how far away you live from the centre of London. Most of the English population is within a two hour commute to central London. All of Englands regional areas are suburbs of London. Some regional areas are nice suburbs while others are backwater suburbs, etc. The closer you live to central London then the better your wealth will be. When you understand this - you understand England.

This is why I think so many tourists love London while many locals may not

As a tourist, you mainly walk around in central London which is genuinely the loveliest place in the world

As a local, you are living on the outskirts and probably never really go to central London unless you really need to, your entire life in outside of zone 2

If you knew how bad things were in Albania, you wouldn't wish for anyone to go back there.

aren't most of the suburbs of tokyo exceptionally nice places to live?

they have very similar density to central tokyo, are extremely walkable, are filled with charming shops and streets, are safe and populated with kind and intelligent people...what's the downside?

I'm sure there are bad parts of tokyo but I bet even the bad parts aren't really terrible compared to the worst parts of the USA or UK

I don't know about other country, but I live in Hachioji, the western outskirt of Tokyo. It takes about an hour to go to the center of Tokyo (by both routes, train and highway). Hachioji has its own center part of the city and culture, so I really rarely go to the center of Tokyo.
