why is the Russian landscape so special
It's the feeling of hopelessness that what you're seeing is the best there is to offer. Those Japanese housing blocks don't evoke any emotional response because I know I'm looking at the bottom percentile of housing and that most people live in significantly better conditions. When I see rows of crumbling Russian commieblocks I understand that this is the best that 90% of the country can hope for and will ever experience.
