Exactly one year ago, a news article was released declaring that 4chan is dead. In hindsigjt, how accurate was this analysis?
It's dead in a sense that 4chan isn't the "uber sekrit klub" that it once was because content from here has made it outside.
posting before the thread is deleted
in my experience instagram and twitter are pretty much pol on streroids. even in the comments zoomers with their legal names on show are calling for ethnic cleancings and whatnot. here you can thirst for qveens and bussy all you want while there they'd have your head on a virtual spike. it's like the insane selfrighteous attitude the far left had has shifted to the far right.
>>221171052it's dead because it's full of fucking boomer normalfags who openly post about having wife and children instead of edy teens and early 20s stuck in their mum's basement
my normie friends talk about how they get videos of shootings and executions on their social media feeds all the time. used to be that you had to specifically go on sites like liveleak or 4chan to see something like that. it's no wonder normies are so fucked up these days
>>221171052It's not even the edgiest community these days. The average instagram comment section makes current 4chan look sanitized.
Posts per hour constantly decreasing4channel is becoming an internet old folks home
would you invest in a stock whose chart looks like this?I wouldn't
>>221171256Talking in 4chan memes outside of here always came across as very embarrassing to me. I know most other anons felt the same way. That's why it's jarring seeing ex-anons be so open about it on Twitter. Surely they're not the same posters from 10 years ago here? If I moved on from 4chan, I would pretend I never went here.
>>221171052The internet has been 4chanified. The memes originating from this site have percolated on every corner of the internet and every social media is basically /pol/, especially Twitter.
>>221171458Sometimes on Twitter I see chud retards call each other "anon". It's a site with user handles, what the fuck do you mean? This makes my clitty leak
He's right, isn't he?
>>221171052isnt it more like, the internet has become 4chan?twitter is unironically more degenerate than this shithole
>>221171458>>221171624Because its not an injoke anymore. I dont read usernames either. Everyone is an anon to me
>>221171662Yes because you do indeed see the same threads every day and you are forced into an orthodoxy. Can't say anything nice about jews, blacks, or Indians especially on /v/ or /pol/ without getting swarmed with replies. I'm not fond of any of those groups either but the reaction is far more vehement than say Muslims or Hispanics. Idk what the fixation is on porn in regards to your image, but much of consensus manufacture is repetition. Boomers knew TV was fake yet believed it anyway, a fake image still can produce real reactions.
>>221171458>>221171700they all moved to r/redscarepod
>>221171662>4chan is full of botsWhat's something that everyone here hasn't known for years.
>>2211714364chan was better before the amount of posters increased. Decreasing poster count means an increase in post quality.
Bots and lower userbase, I can handle. But now we're crossing the threshold where it's turning unusable. 4chan X pulled from Chrome, poorly optimized on Firefox, Desuarchive a mess. I'm not ready to go yet but it's getting closer
>>221171052They weren't wrong
>>221172266Clearly not.>>221172297So where we going after this? Soyjak party foesn't actually seem that bad, the actual website is better than this one in many ways. Wr could also just have ghost post conversations over on desuarchive since you mention it.
basically a lot of 4chan became mainstream.terminology and everything
>>221171052I mean yeah, It's not the cultural engine that it used to be
I blame canadians
>>221171052>4chan was popular because edgelord content wasnt as accepted on more mainstream social media Why does the world of the internet always seem to revolve around on post 2014 internet? Its like the old internet just never existed for normalfags, probably because they werent on it until around then. We weren't particularly edgier than most corners of the internet at all, in fact reddit at one point was way worse. Its just an english speaking image board meant to imitate Japanese image boards , people just preferred this format over others.
>>221172106>Can't say anything nice about jews, blacks, or Indians especially on /v/ or /pol/ without getting swarmed with replies.Anon , posting b8 is half the appeal of this place
>>221171256It’s bizarre seeing trannies and nazis fight over who gets to call themselves “based” on twitter and instagram
>>221172768Seeing the evolution of the term "redpilled" has been hilarious to watch over the years. Now its always used on context to some kind of argument over feminism or something when old red pill threads were just detailed but often hair brained theories on basically all topics, now its somehow solidified around >feminism is gay
>>221172702Yeah but most of those corners were the obscure part too and 4chan were edgier, my flag wouldnt even stand out as THE pedo country back then. Before i found 4chan in 2009 the only place that nearly matched 4chan in terms of edginess is a specific containment thread on local bulletin board forum where i can freely make racist jokes, gore and extreme porn.
>>221172702>We weren't particularly edgier than most corners of the internet at allI mentioned it way back before, but 4chan's reputation as the "edgy all-or-nothing" website known for "total freedom of speech" took precedence amongst outsiders who do not know any better. In a way, these people never really learned proper imageboard etiquette, nor did they know what 4chan was like beyond what they knew, so they ended up following and doing what they thought 4chan was until what they did had become the norm.>, in fact reddit at one point was way worse. This is one thing tourists do not know. They have this weird mentality that 4chan should not be like Reddit because Reddit policing "is strict". All while shitting on whatever board they frequent with low-quality posts and excusing their action in the name of upholding 4chan's "reputation". The worst posters, in my point of view, are tourist niggers who, in their misguided attempt to fit in, try to police what is and isn't "4chan culture" and declare anything against it as "Reddit". >>221172456>Soyjak party foesn't actually seem that badSharty is a dying board as well which is why we often see raids being done on 4chan.>>221171458>Talking in 4chan memes outside of here always came across as very embarrassing to meThere's a time and place for everything.
this website started dying in 2009
>>221172266problem is the people leaving are the people who posted last time it was at this level, and the people staying are the ones from when it was at its peak
>>221171052I think calling us "dead" is innapropriate. The better way to go at it is to say that 4chan metastasized, gone generalized, like a cancer.
>>221171352he's right. if only we could let 4chan, a unique product of millennials, become yet another identical gen z slop factory like tiktok.
Teenagers on Twitter and TikTok say chud, larp, and mog now. It’s incredibly grating hearing progressive women appropriate these things. They also make vague references to antisemitic conspiracy theories.
>>221173194>They have this weird mentality that 4chan should not be like Reddit because Reddit policing "is strict". All while shitting on whatever board they frequent with low-quality posts and excusing their action in the name of upholding 4chan's "reputation"Reddit does have power tripping mods , back in the day it really did not and let a lot of things slide which amounted to a bunch of neo nazi subs and subreddits like r/darknetmarketplace which informed people on buying drugs through Tor and a bunch of other stuff. We started getting a Reddit refugees after the original owners sold the place and started hiring power mods which is why Reddit is seen as the antithesis to 4chan when back in the day it was more Something Awful than Reddit
>>221171436This is purely do to the Captcha system and nothing else. This is my first post in over 3 months just because I cannot stand to do the humiliation ritual every time I want to make a post.
>>221173895*due to, fuck me
>>221173890>Reddit does have power tripping modsI guess that what I'm trying to put forward is that the population of people who despise the idea of 4chan being strictly policed tend to be the same people who revel in disorder because it means that they can shit up the board with no consequences. Honestly, I'm willing to bet that the "offences" they made on Reddit were just them being massive gayniggers who just didn't like following the rules or have decided that how they post on 4chan is how they would post on Reddit.
>>221173895You do it enough times and it becomes simpler and shorter. I barely notice it on my pc, but too lazy to phone post now (probably a good thing)
4cha died when it got flooded by trumptards. Not even the glowniggers and shills have wrecked this site as much as the MIGAtard r/thedonald boomers
>>221171052Internet as a whole is dead, except X, IG and TikTok.And yes I wouldn't even say 4chan is all that edgy rn. It's not even racist anymore
>>221174989>It's not even racist anymoreyou can't be serious.
4chan is still superior because it's an actual honest web 1.0 website without some fucking faggots algorithm shoved up your ass like a sockpuppet totally controlling what you see
>>2211710524chan is more mainstream by the year, it isn't considered a underground hacker network anymore and hasn't been since probably 2013 or so
>>221172702>>221173890>Why does the world of the internet always seem to revolve around on post 2014 internet? If you consult the graph >>221171436You will see that ~2014 era was when traffick to this site started to soar. Reddit was definetely very edgy to begin with, but shutting down r/jailbait set reddit on its current trajectory, and then there was the adpocalypses of youtube and censorship spread across social medias, which drove everyone who was sick of certain things being censored/banned for political reasons here. >>221173194I think it would be interesting for someone to do a study/ video-essay on the great migrations of the internet. The way people have been driven to need lands, causing complete population replacement in some cases, by censorship and other factors, is similair to the discovery of the new world or the great migrations across the eurasian steppe. I've seen the rise and fall and complete transformation of several websites and internet communities now. Every time everyone pretends like they were part of the 'original internet' and kids these days are ruining everything, but in truth there have already been several cycles already, and whatever the internet looks like next will be the new 'original internet'.

>>221171052The site's population has objectively declined a ton
I came here in 2015
>>221175274This site really isn't particularly edgy or shocking compared to X. Blue boards especially
>>221171052that faggot kyle shouldn't speak on topics that he doesn't understand
manI'm 35 and visited 4chan since at least 2008, have been on it every day since 2009Sometimes I wonder whether I stayed here because the site is tailored to an unsociable depressed autist like me, or whether who I am now is because I've been here too long.
>>221175884the truth tends to be somewhere in the middle

>>221175392>totally controlling what you see>he doesn't know

It was nothing to do with politics.

>>221177019>and their opinions are the ones that lead twitter's political trends to bootLol these trends are started by large boomer resistlib accounts, they're not creative, they don't create new memes, and many feel like bots. >>221178830I completely disagree. It may not be 'classified' as the web, but it influenced and shaped how it would become. IT was the proto-web, and it's impact should not be forgotten. They were essentially the original "internet users".

>>221179702guess twitter really is an anti-chud site then considering it just so happens to promote anti-chud trends for the whole site to see, even if they're about insulting its own owner.
this site died when it stopped being about nerds talking about anime and video games and the userbase turned into conspiracy schizo boomers and other people desperately trying to push an agenda
>>221180034>turned into conspiracy schizo boomers and other people desperately trying to push an agendaWe've had waves of internet schizos here since like 08 and some of the original old fags of this site were actually old faggots who used to communicate through IRC and those guys very often had insane political takes. The actual old internet had all kinds of insanity that the modern sanitized internet has no clue about
>>221180012I said libs are stale, don't create memes and don't drive Internet culture, which is true. All they do is call [xyz] a Nazi ad nauseam and that's it. 90% of X might as well be boomer resistlibs and the remaining 10% will be where the fun happens
BRING BACK SNACKS
>>221180271I really don't see these boomer accounts outside of old celebrities promoting their stuff and calling trump names. boomers are known to be mostly on facebook rather than twitter, which is mostly millenials and zoomers. that's why recent pop culture like Invincible or the latest big videogame or movie constantly makes the top trends when it's not politics.
>>221171052it's all populism, actually. shut down reddit, twitter and tiktok for a year and western society will vastly improve.
>>221180498These accounts are run either by boomers with Ukraine flags in bio and such, or they're AI avatar bot-esque accounts like this. The content is just calling Trump an orange Nazi and occasionally they get viral
>>221180643The rise of AI-generated slop was the final nail in the coffin of the public internet. Dead internet theory is now dead internet reality. Shutting down a handful of popular sites / apps won’t change that.
this website elected a shitposter right wing chud president three times and arguably caused brexit, a feat which no other website ever came close to
>>221179549brown women being whores for BWC is a truth thoughhalf the reason people are here is because being /int/ernational helps you get laid lol
>>221175884Probably a bit of both. The anonymous nature definitely lets otherwise-odd people express themselves more freely. The site is also an alluring substitute because it fills an immediate base need for social interaction with relative ease, but its not fulfilling enough to fully replace real social relationships, so if you try to do that you'll end up mentally unwell to some degree. Kinda like how popcorn makes you feel full, but has fuck all nutrients, so if thats all you eat you will become unhealthy
>>2211710524chin will always be the best forum while social media keep their kosher algorithms shadow banning people
>>221180910no it didn't, also 4chan is a communist website.
>>221181125Social media feels more authentic than irl interaction because you can just express yourself freely. In real life you constantly have to lie or suppress your thoughts, and construct a fake persona
>>221171052Conclusion is right but the reasoning ia flawed. 4chan is more or less being mismanaged by Hiroyuki who pretty much uses it as a piggyback to break open for vacation money. Combine that shitty mods/management trying to sculpt the site into their own image or beliefs, and the natural attrition of the older posters and you have a dilemma. The inflow of substantially more maladjusted posters doesn't help either.
>>221180837I mean that's just an engagement bait account made to make money which is no different from ones about "daily cat videos" and the like, could be run by anyone really. it doesn't change the fact that most trends are still about young people's interests. also, trends insulting trump don't happen out of the blue, they appear when trump fucks something up that warrants people calling him out. that's been happening even before the creator revenue program that spawned these engagement bait accounts existed.
>>221181269you're arguing with a crybaby trying desperately to avoid the meatgrinder
>>221181181>social media keep their kosher algorithms shadow banning peopleLmao you cam get away with so much vile posting and pocture uploads on almost every social media site from the US. Every billion dollar company realized that moderation is totally optional because of precedent being established on other sites, and the fact that people would still post on their sites even if the probability of being exposed to gore and porn (or CP) was not zero.

>>221181349Vapid post>>221181269What does this have to do with anything?
