Reminder that the headdress was originally curved

>>221186815are you the autist? what do you think the shapes above the crescent moons are? they almost look like heraldic towers but i'm not aware of any aztec towers.could it be the representation of a temple?

>>221187658YesBy "crescent moon" you mean the crescent shaped golden parts over the blue feathers as seen in pic related? Those crescents (I don't believe they are actually tied to the Moon, though I'd want to double check that before saying so authoritatively) are a symbol associated with the Huastec, or at least certain gods that originated from that part of Mesoamerica, such as certain Pulque deities and TlazolteotlI'm not sure what the shapes above the crescents are, but yeah, they look kinda like temples to me, but if you look at the original headdress in Vienna (https://california-times-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com/f8/3a/859de4e54e91a149e1ee2949ce5c/la-fg-el-penacho-moctezuma-mexican-icon-vienna-1.jpg) rather then the Museo Nacional reconstruction that I posted, the exact shape of them varies a lot, and some of them could simply be triangles, in which case you could draw a connection to trapeze-ray symbols which represented sunbeams/sunrays and were associated with time, fire, and a whole host of other things through Xiuhcoatl's iconography
>>221187860>are a symbol associated with the Huastecelaboration on this point or article link?>the exact shape of them varies a lot, and some of them could simply be trianglesare they made of gold made to look like feathers in the original? or are they actually feathers? also how come huastecs seem to have had a noticeable influence on aztec religion? why them and not other cultures around them?
>>221188924>elaboration on this point or article link?I don't have time to dig up a deep analysis of this right now, but from Insignia of Rank in the Nahua World:>Another frequent nose ornament, the yacametztli (“nose moon [ornament]”), or nose ornament in the form of the crescent, was a diagnostic trait of pulque deities and some of the mother goddesses associated with Huastec origin (figure 2.25c). Forming part of “Huastec” war costumes, it was made of gold (FC VIII, 35) and is known through extant examples in museum collections. The same golden version of this nose adornment—teocuitlayacametztli—is mentioned among costly Mexica insignia stolen by the Spaniards (FC XII, 48) and as an ornament of the impersonator of Xipe Totec (FC IX, 69). Apparently, the nose-crescent ornament could also be worn independently from the cuextecatl costume, as images of a brave tiacauh warrior (PM, fol. 72v) or a Tlaxcalan warrior (Lienzo de Tlaxcala, 61) seem to imply. So seems like the crescent shape is meant to be a moon. If you want more info on the motif, Insignia of Rank probably does talk about it more elsewhere in the book (tho alternatively, Heath's Aztec and Inca armies credits shields with crescent motifs to both Huastec and Mixtec origins, tho Heath's book often has errors here and there).>are they made of gold made to look like feathers in the original? or are they actually feathers? The crescents, triangles/temples etc are all gold in the original too>also how come huastecs seem to have had a noticeable influence on aztec religion? why them and not other cultures around them?Good question, off the top of my head i'm not really sure, but again Insignia of Rank talks about this more I'm pretty sure, while pulling up this quote for example it brought up Mexica adoption of Huastec Copilli helmets (the conical ones) a bunch in sections I skipped over.
