The UK’s track record is honestly insane. Its global influence is basically unmatched, the language and culture are the world’s "default"
, they’ve achieved more in science and inventions than anyone, it humiliated many and was humiliated by none. Even today, their soft power in arts and sports is massive...

But there’s a problem thought: Unless you can afford London or Edinburgh (which are expensive capitals) most big British cities are kind of an eyesore. Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield... these are the places that should be affordable alternatives, but they’re just depressing to look at.
90% of the country looks like the American Midwest: just gray, ugly, former industrial hubs. It barely even feels European. And this isn't just a "European problem" in general. If you look at the top 10 biggest cities in France, Italy, Spain, Benelux (More Flanders+Netherlands than Wallonia), or (Southern, not Northern) Germany most of them look great whether they’re the capital or not.

In France, places like Lyon, Bordeaux, Nice and Strasbourg look much better than British cities of the same relevance. Same goes for Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza in Spain, or Milan, Genoa, Bologna, Florence in Italy. Even in fellow germanics nations like those of the Benelux, you’ve got Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Utrecht looking world-class & Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart in Germany with Vienna in nearly-identical-culturaly Austria close by.

I know people will bring up York or Bath, and yeah, they’re pretty. But those are small tourist traps full of retirees. There’s zero opportunity there and not much to do if you’re actually trying to build a life.

Why can't they just build prettier cities? They were the richest country in the world for centuries.

Thats because Englishers dont view Norman conquest as a humiliation
Honestly its one of the greatest humilitions in European history

This is the most depressing thing about the UK to me. It feels like outside of London, there is nowhere urban to go that doesn't depress me. In some cases cities like Manchester did have some beautiful architecture but it was destroyed in WW2 and the buildings that remained were torn down by 'architects' and replaced with brutalist or ugly 'modern' alternatives in their place. Maybe it was the rush to industralise, there are also photos of gorgeous cottages replaced with rows of ugly dilapidated terrace houses for the workers.

Europe as a whole is shitty and very mediocre at best. Weak people, with all the strong ones dead after WW2. Now they are post-national states of the PoC.

>The shitty architecture of London is so sovlfvl.
>Why yes I love a capital that's 70% foreigners.
This is why Europe sucks and why the UK is in decline. I can't wait until China just takes over. Be real there's 0 chance a country can come back from being completely conquered by the third world because the locals are too cowardly to stop the poor widdle jewish oligarchs and megacorporations.

London has many beautiful parts and lots of fantastic architecture, it's the third worlders that are the problem.
>>
I want to kiss other lads on the cheek before breaking chairs on them and bang drums for west ham while drinking myself silly. People in the UK don't know how good they have it.

Such as? The town hall the looks like a vibrator? The walkie-talkie buildings? Soulless steel and glass? It's objectively the ugliest major European city. And for trying so hard to be modern it comes nowhere close to the kino architecture in China/Japan.

This is one of those posts that I hope is bait, but suspect is genuine. This village looks grim and you have zero eye for aesthetics if you think this looks good.

>Beautiful canals
>Bridges
>Clean architecture
>Greenery and nature
Why is this repulsive to you?
>>
>>221183009
>ugly ACs hanging off every building
>building in the top left stained by mould
>bridge is just some concrete slabs thrown together
It has the superficial appearance of looking nice, but the more you look, the uglier it gets. It's similar to how Americans will build McMansions and just throw a load of random elements together and the end result just looks wrong.

Kill yourself. London is a shithole. Imagine ooing and aahing at buildings that are tall and made of glass. Go to a country park, go to the woods, go to the mountains

Because most of these places were country towns before the Industrial Revolution, when huge economic growth happened, the population exploded, and we had to throw up endless rows of terraces and factories. Then in the late 20th century the heavy industry left and we tried to do modern regeneration in the city centres.

Sheffield, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, were all relatively unimportant towns 300 years ago. Not cities like Florence, Lyon or Cologne.
>>
>>221182173
The problem is you didn't regular what people could build. We have the same issuse here. If everyone built stuff in the various British architecture the nation would look beautiful.

Stopped reading right there
You're thinking of America not the UK
