Were 1970s violent in your country?

We peaked in the 80s
Sort of, but the 80's were worse
>>221190451huhI thought Sweden was always safe. I mean 1.22 is still safe but I thought it was always below 1 and only got up after 2014

>>221190470Less people killing their wives and buddies in fits of drunken rage. More 16 year olds killing eachother over drug debts of 200$. The former constituted a far larger share of total murders so the total is still going down. The latter is a far larger concern for the public at large since it involves larger crime networks and innocent people being affected some times
>>221190439Holy fuck. Thats almost total killings in 2024 in my country
tfw I'll never be a heroin dealer in the bronx during the 70s
>>221190415Bihar was a wild west in the 70s. Open (legal) gun factories in munger and many illegal ones elsewhere. In nalanda some policeman went to an illegal gun factory and he got thrown in furnace (dad told me). Also my dad's big bro picked up a rifle and settled score with ~560 bhumihar caste people to make them start respecting us. He later joined the police force.

On my mum's side the village was suffering with dacoits. They were rich family but they didn't have guns for self defence like my dad's side.Picture unrelated: India poland alliance in 1975
>>221191440You never hear much about organized crime in India beyond the occational corruption scandal. Do you have the equivalent of mafia families and the like?
>>221191440did he fondle many cannons?
>>221190415I'd say so, civil war was avoided but there were a couple bombings and coups
>>221190415It was a time of particular political repression under General Medici, but 70's were paradise compared to today in terms of crime or so I've heard. If you ever have a conversation with a brazilian boomer there's a 25% chance he will mention some recent gruesome news and start talking about how calm and crimeless things were back in his youth. That's only anedotical, because the dictatorship made all kinds of data confidential matters of State before the reforms, but from the 80's and onwards data shows a progressive increase in murders and also the rise of criminal organizations wih international presence.
>>221191483Dad said when he was a kid, a wandering brahim / pandit / priest came to his village and told them the story of how he was almost killed by the Godfather of neighbouring village who used to rule eastern bihar north of ganges. Every random streetfood seller had to pay a cut to him or something or he got cut and thrown in the Ganges or something. One day this priest poisoned his well and they caught him. They took him to nepal and kept scaring him how they'll cut his fingers one by one. At the end he was let go because killing Brahmins is considered a sin even for god. In the 1960s there weren't many guns in india (except police and army) so the criminals were full mediaeval. PM Indira Gandhi had to intervene and she formed a special police team to kill him. It was lead by his own brother in law.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamdev_Singh
There was more in the 90’s

>>221190415I can't be arsed to go compile statistics right now, but IIRC we had a peak of violence in the 90s, coinciding with a housing crash where the interest rate went to like 15%.
We had the FLQ crisis. Quebec separatism was threatening to become a Troubles-like situation, they were starting to bomb things and assassinate politicians, but Trudeau Sr put a quick stop to it, when he sent the army in to Quebec the separatists pussied out and there was little to no violence after that. Frogs don't have the balls of Irishmen.

>>221190439>>221190415Everyone talks about how big of cesspool NYC was in the 1970s ie Taxi Driver but the late 80s/early 90s crack epidemic was even worse. Both in NYC and across the country.
>>221194342Giuliani was right to set the NYPD loose on the blacks and hispanics. After that NYC was safer than Toronto.
>>221193921Every election I do a write in vote for the FLQ.
>>221190415We had workers' strikes which were pacified with live ammunition.
>>221191471Gierek did actually visit India later in 1977.
>>221190415Not really. It was a relatively peaceful, high trust society not withstanding the occasional bank robbery or brawl outside of a pub.
>>221190415Sweden peaked in the 70's. It was before the big crime wave in the 80's (mostly biker gangs and stuff) and one of the richest decades in Swedish history with basically zero unemployment and everyone was still white.
>>221190415Football hooliganism was bad here during the 70s along with the IRA bombing things so yeah.
