I hate self check-out. The line always moves slow as hell because the worlds biggest mouth breathing idiots are always in front of me. And then when it's finally my turn, there's always some stupid item that the machine doesn't like and then I have to get an employee involved anyway.
I once stole a keyboard using it kekAmong several groceries
>>221212764This isn't any better because you're still placing trust in "those" people to accurately scan and pay for their shit.
>>221212794Mexicans will really ruin their entire country's social fabric for a keyboard and some avocados or whatever they eat
Your society becomes low trust when you import browns
>>221212911i have no regrets
>>221212694Yes, but apparently they're still an unsolved problem as not every store gets it right. The ones that do are great, scan, pay, done, no bullshit.
>>221212694I fucking hate Walmart but they're for some fucking reason the only place near me that sells BMW specific fluids without an insane 200% markup. >>221214723He's right, there's a store in my city that is overwhelmed by the amount of customers it gets on a daily basis and staff don't even blink an eye when the alarms go off from people just walking out with stuff they didn't pay for. There's about 20 self checkouts in that store too and they always have lines, it's insane how busy things are lately.

Boomers love self-checkout here for some reason. I think it's more comfortable to have someone else scan your stuff.
>>221214857No, but I can't write here what they are called, or I'll be banned for "racism".
>>221214646Where did she leave her shoes?
>>221214859Opposite here. Boomers are always at the lone non-self checkout left in the store and they'll do that even if they're just buying only one or two things.
>>221214882I'm an Australian boomer
>>221212694Some big brand stores use them for small purchases (<10 items), never asked if they had shoplifting issues.
>>221214893The difference for you is you like the human interaction, whereas boomers here aren't good with technology.
>>221214901Do they bag your groceries in Australia? That would make me feel awkward. A store I went to tried it for a while but stopped. Probably because it weirded people out.
>>221214896One anon always posts on /deutsch/ what he stole using self-checkouts.
>>221214936Yeah it's always been that way, you put your stuff on the conveyor or on the bench right in front of the clerk and they'll then scan and put it in the bag for you.
>>221214964Alright, that might make me do self-checkout, but maybe you get used to it. Yes, yes, work harder, my little pack slave.
>>221214872She obviously took them off before entering train.
>>221214992Why's that more awkward for you? They're already scanning all your stuff, putting it straight in the bag immediately instead of handing it back just makes it quicker.

>>221214882Same here. Boomers will always be against change and be on the last line of defense of the old shit no matter how convenient the change may be. It's a fascinating phenomenon. 15 years ago whenever some kid would suggest them to just read the news online on the computer instead of wasting time and money buying shitty newspapers they'd get super defensive about it like their life depends on it and would refuse to go on the internet, making up excuses for why that's actually a bad thing and romanticizing fucking newspapers

>>221215400I'm with boomers on this, reading physical print that doesn't have a gazillion advertisements pop up and schizo comments under every article is a much better alternative. Nonetheless 95% of all modern journalists should be roped.
>>221212694I fucking love self checkouts, mostly because boomers don't use them. It's like having a fastlane to bypass those slow pieces of shit
>>221214498>You do understand that the more you steal the more they are going to hike up the prices? Not my problem, I steal my groceries
>>221216100I love self-checkouts because I'm an introverted, misanthropic bastard and being able to get my groceries without having to interact with people is great for a guy like me.
I'm opossed to them because it means less jobs for the community.
what exactly prevents you from stealing at self checkout? is there anything at all?
I'm not goycattle so I only use cash, there's no cash self-checkout
>>221216322Nothing. In America they apparently installed overhead cameras in some places and hired security guards to watch he monitors and arrest people. But I think that might have been more expensive than just having a cashier sit there and scan the items, so they're dismanteling the self-checkouts in places with a high rate of robbery.>>221216380Not every self-checkout accepts cash, but there are machines that do. I once was coerced to use the self-checkout by a store employee when the line at the cash register was long. I said "but I want to pay cash!" She said well then take one of those three devices over there, they all accept cash and return change money.
>>221216322They have randomized checks but they only look whether the things you put in your shopping bag have been scanned
>>221212705policy of liberals/democrats that let them steal up to $950 without any consequences
>>221216322In the US they don't bother to stop you, instead they track everything you steal until you've taken $1000 worth of goods so they can upgrade your charge to a felony
>>221216322>what exactly prevents you from stealing at self checkout?High trust society
>>221215758The early internet and old journalism was still good at that time, even ads on news sites were about the same as they were on physical news. Funnily enough you could say that early the early internet was the boomer internet as a lot of websites for the news were basically just online versions of the physical newspaper. As for today, the physical newspaper is a lot less obnoxious and awful than their websites. But the journalism is also utter shit so it's not really worth reading anyway.

>>221215400Newspapers are different from reading news online though
>>221216632Isn't that just California? Or is it nationwide now?
It seems to work well. The only thing they to do was add receipt scanners to open up a gate as at first it was just a straight up open so obviously 70IQ geniuses were brazenly walking through. But for that one moment it felt great living in the illusion of high trust. The older I get the more I start to think that the pettier the crime the more severe should be the punishment.
I don't even know what the problem is. For those of you even old enough to remember, back in the day when the cashier had to type every single price into the cash register, that took some time. These days he or she just pulls the items across a laser scan window and they can do that a lot faster than it takes you to put everything into your bags. Even if you have 4 or 5 people in the queue ahead of you, you don't have to wait that long until it's your turn. The thing that get's much more on my nerves is when the store is full with couples and families, and they're all standing next to eachother blocking the all the aisles.
>>221216322At target they have a camera and a monitor on the side.
>>221216762>For those of you even old enough to remember, back in the day when the cashier had to type every single price into the cash register, that took some time.Long before most of our times probably, barcode scanning has been around since the early 80s I think. I can only really guess since I have some CDs from the 80s and some have barcodes.
>>221212694My Lidl here in Stockholm remodelled recently with a big self checkout section and I swear its closed down 50% of the time im thereIf its not rush hour they close the self checkout section. I dont understand why, this is in the middle of Stockholm inner town, so theres very few immigrants even coming in there
>>221216762Yes they might scan faster but i dont want to stand in a queue for 2 minutes, i just want to go
there's no way it's not worth it, I don't believe it
>>221216762You can fit more self checkout machines in the same space of 2 aisles so queue go faster
>>221216833I don't know if you have Aldi in your country, they held out the longest installing scanners. I think until the late 90s or early 2000s. It's true all items had barcodes a lot longer, but Aldi's cheap, passing on the savings to the customers, and I guess that's why they didn't install scanners until much later. They didn't even have the cashiers type in the prices. Instead every Aldi product had a three digit code that the casher would have to memorize and type into the cash register. I'm not kidding.>>221216872Ah, the impatience of youth.
>>221216914Only the youth value their time or what are you implying
>>221216914>Ah, the impatience of youthAre you one of those slow, retarded boomers whose life mission is to be in everybody's way
>>2212169103 of the 7 supermarkets I go to have self-checkouts. I only see maybe 1 person use them in 1 out of 10 shopping trips I take. It's true they take up less space, but most of the customers still seem to reject them.
>>221216921>>221216982I just don't mind waiting the extra 4 minutes in a queue. I'll lose more time waiting at red traffic lights on the way home anyway.
>>221212694somewhat, old people get filtered so we always have at least one designated wagie to help them
>>221216994I always try to use them if I can so I don't have to wait the spastic boomer with parkinson trying to find the 5 cent coins instead of paying by card like all normal people
self checkouts are UNDIGNIFIED, and so is deposit on plastic bottles and cans.a White Man must never check out his own groceries.a White Man mUst NEVER wait in line to return his moist, sticky cans.
>>221216914We have Aldi here but they've had scanners for as long as I can remember, as I'm guessing being the lone shopping chain without them probably would've hurt their sales badly since it would be so much slower than at other stores.
>>221214938He does that in sPain? I've seen the fake-cops (guards) taking care of a shoplifter only twice, they weren't exactly gentle with the guy.
>>221217032That doesn't really answer my question. Just saying, there's a specific type of troglodyte subhuman, often found in supermarkets. People who are slow in the mind, and slow in their movements. They pay no attention to their surroundings, as they concentrate whatever little brainpower they have on what they should buy. I've come to despise these people, and I'm glad that they don't use the self checkouts. I sometimes wonder if it comes with age, or if those people were always like that
>>221212694We aren't civilized, and never will be. Not because of minorities but because of our culture. On the other hand corporations here also treat every single person as a potential thief. If you buy lube from Walmart for example they make you pick it up up front, state what you're requesting, and THEN you can buy it. Kinda fucked. And also reinforces a culture that causes said issues in the first place.
>>221217128To answer your question then: No, I am not slow. But I know these kinds of people. Last week I was driving home and I had presumably an old grandma in front of me who drove 35 instead of the allowed 50km/h. I couldn't overtake her because there was a continuous stream of traffic on the left side of the road. So I had to remain behind her. I realized there and then that I would have got angry maybe 10 years ago and yelled at her in my car. And what good would that be? She wouldn't be able to hear me, she wouldn't have driven faster, and all I got out of this would be anger and negative feelings. I was glad that I had got over that phase and was feeling much better now. In the end, I lost maybe 3 minutes of the day due to that.
>>221217032I wish I had that mentality again. I had it when I lived abroad, but ever since coming back I've reverted to being impatient and quick to anger when forced to wait longer than I should.
>>221212694I refuse to use them. When i was a kid, in the 90's supermarkets had staff in the fruits and vegetables section, and they would weight them for the customer. Then at check out the person would also pack everything inside the bags. Now i have to all of those things myself, and now i have check myself out? No, those greedy cunts every year show their massive profits. I will not work for them, so they can save more wages.I will go to the line. I will use the toll that has a clerk too
This is the ideal method, get your scans done and maybe if you're feeling sneaky you can get yourself a freebie>low moralsIt's payment for doing their job x
>>221217293thisfuck them, FUCK self checkoutthe self checkout is an indicator of the downfall of our wealth and society as a whole

>>221212694They remodelled my local grocery store a few years ago and deliberately chose not to include self checkout because too much was being shoplifted already ;_;
>>221212694They're putting in MORE self check outs in my town. Not even a White area, it's mostly Armenian, Mexican and Korean. I literally get annoyed when the machines fuck up and under charge me. They know something is wrong but the software is too poorly made to figure out what's wrong and the retarded zoomette human cashier in charge of 8 self checkouts is always just talking to other zoomers about nonsense or on her phone so I have to stand there waiting for them to actually do their job or just be loud to get their attention then they either get butthurt or try to retardedly flirt then get butthurt.

>>221216581this looks like something from a Simpsons episode
It works but I never use it, I like interacting with people, and sometimes there's a cute cashier.
>>221212694Yes, but there's usually one employee at the self-checkouts to help old people who can't figure them out (and to deter people from stealing, probably).
>>221216581That's an interesting tactic.
When you have 3 things to buy yes
>>221212694I hate these, half the time they fuck up something and make you call someone anyway. Also fuck doing the cashier's work for nothing, if they gave me a discount I might have considered it.
>>221217385You're not stealing from the store when you steal. They will just increase the price of all the products to cover the losses and then you and all the other customers pay the price for the thing you stole.
>>221216732>receipt scannerI bet that would be great when the store is on fire
>>221217180>I live in the Bible Beltfound your problem senpai

One shop in my neighborhood went full automatic and it closed 6 months after, the shop was empty
At a regular supermarket, self-checkout is clearly superior for a depressive autist like me who only ever has 1 or 2 bags worth of stuff. I leave regular checkouts to the normalfags with actual families of their own who have family-sized amounts of items in their carts.
>>221216322At least where I'm at you'll just have a staff member nearby who's here to help tech illiterate retards, check the age of people buying alcohol and probably look out for people smuggling stuff. They asked me to show the inside of my bag a couple times
>>221216581humiliation ritual
>>221219480One would image the gates open up automatically in such a case, or are opened by the clerk that oversees the aisle.
for others Hungarians anons, you know how Spar has those 20% off coupons all the time for 2 or 4 products of your choice well at the self checkout you can scan it for as many items as you want and it'll accept itjust do it when it's really busy, last time i got caught by wagie who took her job way to seriously she called her boss and they told her to let me go kek
>>221216732>The only thing they to do was add receipt scanners to open up a gateThe bourgeois pay 1000 eur so people don't benefit 500 eur. This is why I stopped using these
>>221212694Most supermarkets here have a security guy at the exit anyway so with stores that have self-checkout they just stand there. There are also cameras, you have to put the bag on the left to weight it before you can start to scan the items plus there is an always a guy because people buying alcohol need to get hand-approved with a card anyway
>>221219839+ you need to scan the receipt after payment to open the gate
>>221219634>never workedHow did you afford your groceries?
>>221212694There's a 24/7 open self-checkout at my local cornerstore. If somebody wants to shoplift, a wagie behind a counter aren't going to stop them.
>>221219839There are easy ways around all these ""security"" measures.
>>221212764Never bothered to learn to use these. I usually only buy a few products, so logging in with these would probably only lose time.
>>221219839I never understood why some countries force you to put your groceries to a scale as a security measure. Why put your illbegotten gains into the store basket?
>>221219839>need to get hand-approved with a card anywayi saw in Romania at Auchan they have wagies with tablets and they can verify you from a distance, I'm sure they can also see what you're scanning or if you put in different quantities
Yes, boomers don' seem to like it
I think so. But I always just join the regular checkout line because I like to grab a bottle of wine whenever I'm there.
>>221220153??
>>221220181pierre shocked anglos have wine
>>221220271explain the "because".
>>221220290Maybe alcohol and tobacco can't be scanned at self-checkouts because then children could theoretically buy those? But I don't know, I don't buy alcohol or cigarettes.
>>221220290Alcohol purchases require a checkout assistant to come over and make sure you're not a squeaker trying to slip through the cracks. It can be quite irritating when the supermarket is busy, because you can do nothing but stand there and wait. Can't even scan the rest of your groceries.
>>221220357That's the case here. While some larger stores might let you buy alcohol because there's a clerk overlooking the self-checkout section(haven't checked if this is still the case), smaller ones almost universally ban it because age limitations. And tobacco products are all hidden behind the counter by default anyway, so no self checkout for those either.
>>221220364Here you are not allowed to pay for alcohol or nicotine products at all at the self-checkout.
>>221214689My local Lidl doesnt have a self checkout, I never go in there because I only ever buy a few things at a time and I always get stuck behind a grandma spending her entire retirement cheque on frozen food
>>221215023>just let the low wage wagie cram your groceries willy nilly instead of selecting what goes where in peaceI guess it's better than Germany, where you're packing yourself, but there's practically no collection area, so you're competing with the clerk whether you can pack them faster than they can scan them. But still, why not just extend the conveyor belt a little further? It's already there.
>>221221175I remember we had an American supermarket in the biggest mall in Germany (can't remember which one it was), and they had packers for about two weeks. Customers found it too weird and they abandoned the experiment. All supermarkets I know have tables behind the cash registers. What you do is you quickly put all your items back in your shopping cart after they've been scanned and then move to a table and take your time to put them in your bags or your shopping trolley. Or you take the shopping cart directly to your car and then you have all the time in the world to put your bought items in the boot.Carts are usually chained to eachother and require a 1 Euro coin to unlock them and you'll get your Euro back when you return the cart.
>>221221329Behold! An invention that lets up to three customers pack their groceries at the same time!
>>221221437realistically its two minus when you have to get one of them to move because the terminal is usually at the end of it. at least in the aldi here that has this type of desk
>>221221437We used to have those, but I think only the DM drugstores have kept them. It's not really an issue. I and other customers only pay when we've packed all the items back into the shopping cart. The cashier (and the queue) will have to wait an additional 10 to 20 seconds.
>>221221619>just wait extra 20 seconds per customer o algoWhy are germans so inefficient?
>>221212792>When it happens to others it's because they're mouth breathing idiots >When it happens to me it's the item's fault
>>221212694I love self checkouts because then I don't have to interact with anyone else. There's multiple machines so you never get stuck behind someone buying many items when there's only one cashier. On an unrelated note I'm a NEET so I go to the shop during wagie hours and the only other customers in there are all unemployed Ukrainians.
>>221214498That would be just an excuseIn reality all of their products are insured against theft
>>221214964In at least 3 Victorian cities they've been doing this>>221215091since the 2010's. They put it an area and then you put it into whatever receptacle you want yourself. It's part of why I started exclusively using self checkout: why wait in a queue to just pack it myself?
>>221221684>Why are germans so inefficient? If you don't like it, you can also buy your stuff online and have it delivered to you. Not every store does this, but I think in my town Rewe and Kaufland do. I don't know how fast they are and what it costs. And there's also a company called "Picnic" that exclusively delivers using small electric delivery vehicles. They keep cooled warehouses but have no stores that you can visit.(The final letter E on the number plate means it's an electric vehicle. I think they don't have to pay vehicle tax.)

>>221228006I doubt anyone under 50 in my country even knows how to cash in a check.
>>221212929No one accuses you of having them
>>221216322There's a security guy watching streams from all cameras built in self-checkouts. They can call the employee responsible for approving alcohol to stop you. The checkout itself has built in weight scale that detects if you put non-scanned items in the collection bin. Some employ AI that flags unexpected items on video too. It used to freak out every time I tried to buy a few candy bars without putting them in plastic bag for weighting. They've fixed that though. Lidl started to install exit gates that make you scan receipt before leaving the shop through self-checkout area too. Sometimes when I'm angry I just force them to open. It raises alarm and makes wages mad. I think they get fined for it.

>>221219471>>221214498>>221214750>>221214857>>221214731They'll always jack up prices regardless and the amount of loss from theft is extremely negligible. It's amazing seeing people justifying getting reamed in CoL because retail lobbies appeal to their shallow egos. Price fixing has always been rampant in retail and groceries. The "more theft means more higher prices" was proven to be totally false.
It works in the sense that sometimes no one uses the self checkouts but a worker is standing there doing nothing, who could also open another regular checkout counter to shorten the queues. >>221212794You are a hero
I love self-checkouts because I hate people and can process my goods faster than the retarded wagies can
>>221212929Browns cannot comprehend their effect on a greater ecosystem. They can only think in terms of the village.
>>221233181>worker is standing there doing nothingNot a thing here. At most there are flimsy gates to slow you down if you just try to stroll through.
What's the point of self checkout when the workers have to come over and verify half the shit anyways? I'm just doing half their job for them for no pay.
goodMore jobs for the people
>>221212694It's actually now cheaper to employ an actual indian than it is to buy and maintain a self checkout with its computer and scanner.
>>221212694theres always just one worker watching over the self checkout because these flimsy walmart machines always freeze up, i'd say they're taking jobs from actual people but nobody wants to be a cashier anyways because it pays like shit
>>221216581I have been laughing at this for 15 minutes now. Thanks mate.
