>>221239140vgh my ancestor: the movie
>>221239140Would a Bri'ish accent make it more historically accurate?
there's nothing wrong with this though, I mean romeo and juliet is italians talking in english
>>2212391401. It's called acting2. No one likes foreign accents3. Matt Damon = instant watch
One criticism of Chrisotpher Nolan I can get behind is that his movies are getting emotionally colder and colder. Dunkirk, Tenet and Oppenheimer explored different ways to tell a story but I don't remember feeling anything while watching them besides "oh, cool".
>>221239140modern British accents would be just as anachronisticeven if all the actors spoke in Homeric Greek, it would still be anachronistic because the story of the Odyssey took place in the Bronze Age, centuries before the poem's composition
>>221239263There are two or three black characters in this movie. Nolan is getting woke.
reminder the greeks used to make ancient greece movies and were good at it.watch Iphigenia!
>>221239140looks mid
>>221239189>>221239207>>221239263>>221239420I have defended this movie against people whining about historical accuracy because the Iliad itself is an anachronistic fantasy story, but the American accents here really take me out. Honestly, I would have preferred the kind of Greek accent that was in that Assassin's Creed game. It's not too hard.Other stuff doesn't look so good either. Robert Pattinson is surprisingly flat.>>221239344Always has been
>>221239140Nolan is so overrated
>>221241146>Honestly, I would have preferred the kind of Greek accentThat's just mockery, Greeks arent supposed to speak English. Every single historical film produced by an english speaking country is wrong now? Are the germans not allowed to make films about france without putting on a silly accent?
>>221241239Well, I know that you can never be exactly accurate but I want them to at least sell me the fantasy. Even one of those inaccurate fantasy Greek accents with put me in a certain vibe. An American accent would not.
>>221239140This was the only movie I was excited for until they announced that Athena was a nigressIt's going on my never watch list with Joker 2 now
>complaining about accents in a moviethat's retarded, I ain't watching it because movies aren't interesting to me anymore
>>221239140as a history buff i don't mind1. myceneans spoke linear b, evans reconstructed sounds of linear b using ancient greek, using ancient greek, any of the 3 branches including acheans will be achronistic2. usean english is global, representing achean myth that their ancestors (myceneans) were panhellenic3. odyssey was performed as cultural memory of bronze age during the archaic age, it's metaphoric for description of world-view, making it in modern sensibility is continuing that tradition4. you are a loser if you think the odyssey shouldnt be just as performative as the poem itselfofc my idea is to perform the odyssey as the ancients intended, with the pentameter intact so we can get the semantic translation of actual achaic greek worldview about their lost past, but we get exposition about era-ending theme, it's weaker but it's not anti
>watching Nolanslop after he made this scene
I will watch it with a Hun Dub.
>>221243947>evansventris
>>221239619Greeks are making a movie about the battle of Marathon, the Greeks will speak ancient Greek and the Persians will speak old Persian, it's called Nenikikamen
>>221244030there were many greek did it have dorian vs attic greek like the old days or just koine because lazy
>>221239140Anyone who watches this nolan slopa on the Kinema deserves to be thrown out of a window.
>>221244008>Dr Polyphemus, I'm Nobody
>>221244129>no one is killing me
>>221243947I largely agree with you, but a couple things are bothering me:1. Liner B is a script, not a language2. hexameter, not pentameter
>>221244253they gave linear b sound using ancient greek, that was the decipherment
>>221244331You said the Mycenaeans spoke Linear B; that's what I was commenting on. They spoke Mycenaean Greek, which was written with the Linear B syllabary
>>221239140this looks like a student project with really high end cameras, the accents suck but are definitely not the biggest problem here.
I want something more calm and autistic. Something that feels like a fairy tale and more genuine without Hollywood glitz. They're probably too chicken to do riskier stuff like that though.
>>221243631She played Helen, not Athena.
Greeks are the most oppressed race on Earth.
>>221239344Yep. Inception and interstellar were peak. I still admire his films though.
>>221243574Broken Greek accents is 100% more immersion breaking. Any foreign accent is unnatural
>>221239140I would rather have everybody talking in their organic American regional accents. The entire point of the Odyssey is that Ulysses is traveling across a wide variety of the Eastern Mediterranean cultures. The Death of Stalin was a great movie because everybody spoke in their real British and American accents instead of trying to sound stereotypically Russian - it makes sense since the USSR was huge and diverse in accents when speaking Russian.
>>221239344Dunkirk is great. Watch it alongside that one Churchill movie with Gary Oldmam and you'll have a great experience.Tenet and Oppenheimer are fucking garbage though
>>221245183I couldn't agree with you more.
>>221243631Yeah idk why anyone even took this movie seriously after they announced her and Zendaya were in it. There's a Korean and a Jeet in Odysseus' crew as well, the whole thing looks like ass tbqh.
>>221239140>this and the new star wars flickcan someone explain to me WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED to Hollywood ?
>>221245316Now you know what version of the Odyssey should REALLY be made into a movie or short series? The Joyce one. It would literally be an amazing opportunity for a very creative miniseries, one episode for each chapter or two
I want to know who is circe, she had a bastard with Odysseus
