actually the did pretty well for post-roman exodus, compared to say the balkans1 they retained latin2 they continued pilgrimage to rome3 literally reintroduced christianity 4 was the intellectual center of northern europe when italy was overunned with barbarianshistory education usually center on england after normans but anglo-saxon england was actually pretty advanced in the early medieval context, you are just biased because you cant see past the renaissance
