Las Vegas is a zombie city. The whole concept of "go to a desert resort city and gamble your savings away while drinking overpriced alcohol and listening to overpriced musical acts" is boomer exclusive, everyone under the age of 40 is either too poor or has better means of entertaining themselves.

I'm quite surprised there are hotels and casinos in Nevada outside Las Vegas, how can they compete? Are they a lot cheaper?

They can’t, hence why Primm is going out of business. The only gambling oases that survive in the state are the ones that aren’t anywhere near Vegas like Wendover just before you cross into Utah over the Great Salt Desert or in Reno

Bad times are coming. California is getting out of solar and shutting nearby SEGS down, which means no more easy IBEW money flowing in. Even the Flying J will probably end soon because of the electric truck mandate. I'll be interesting to see if Brightline bothers to put in a Primm station or just builds a new town 20' south on the California side. Reason for doing that: The California commuter card mandate, large CA employers are required to provide prepaid transit cards for employees'. Brightline is an allowed vendor for LA.

>>221280612
Reno was raped by Vegas and because of that, Reno hotels cost 1/5th of Vegas and 1/10th for areas outside of downtown Reno. Primm will join the long list of California and Nevada ghost towns.

Reno's economy is like Las Vegas, but more explicitly dependent on Californians. Both tourism from hippies and families that live on both sides of the mountain, since you can cash out California benefits and just spend it in Nevada where it's cheaper. The state government doesn't even try to stop it since they know most people there are poor.

Nevada is weird. Nevada's industry was mining and trains. Then it was all shut down in the 1940s. There's attempts to reopen some of it but it's all in northern Nevada. All of Southern Nevada is built on credit that's rapidly going away since the area's core business of flying in gamblers no longer exists. It's been ailing for years since California relaxed online gambling rules and individual CA cities started cutting deals with tribes to setup barely legal casinos.
>>
>>221282932
Is everything dying in Nevada apart from Vegas then?
>>
>>221282825
well you can go buy buffalo bill's right now, it will probably show up at auction with the entire town and you can buy it for $1. You will be responsible for demolishing it and lawfully disposing of all the toxic waste buried there and still visible on google maps

the only other source of employment planned here was the yucca mountain nuclear waste repository, which Trump successfully killed four years ago. It's over.

>>221282960
Reno used to be dying but all the Silicon Valley tech money flooded in. All of Reno's boomer casinos are doing much worse than Las Vegas and are rotting in place, like a real world Tower of Terror / Hotel California. The rest of Reno is normie suburbs for tech jobs since Reno is an exurb of Sacramento now.

what never had a soul cannot be saved

The government literally blew up nuclear bombs in Nevada for 15 years, coating everything in a very thin layer of radioactive dust. As the water dries up, the lakebeds become dry lakes that kick up heavy dust which is very radioactive. This causes birth defects and cancer which is very commonplace throughout rural Nevada and rural Utah. New Mexico has the same problems but NM has humans living in it so the government was forced to put it in metal drums.

Montello, NV will outlast Primm. Never thought I'd see it. Montello at least has 50 retired mormons and miners keeping it "alive" with a mailbox, gas station and a church. Primm's owner is also getting rid of the Flying J. It is completely, totally, 100% over.

>Nevada's industry was mining and trains
Yeah it's kinda crazy how Northern Nevada used to be the heart of the state (hence why the capital Carson City is like a 7 hour drive/2 week hike from Vegas) due to the silver mining industry and now most of Northern Nevada is an empty wasteland while Southern Nevada's sole industries seem to be gambling, gambling-related tourism, and Californian expats. I can't name a single relevant company with a factory in the state. Maybe some logging company has stakes out near Reno? Idk
>>
>>221283063
Nobody says this, it's when you're defacing public property with red spray paint and screeching about pakis in the street that people consider you odd

>>
>>221282972
Bring back recreational nuclear explosions to boost the tourism. The reason so many nukes were detonated there is because it's a worthless desert. There is fucking nothing to do there if you don't enjoy walking around the deserts and mountains. Las Vegas was only possible due to gambling laws being strict elsewhere so it's prosperity is beyond artificial and could go away at any moment.
