Did you know that Roundabouts are very uncommon in Japan?

Intersections where many roads meet are generally safe because drivers become more cautious. Traffic collisions rarely happen at such intersections.

Right. That’s probably because our land is limited and the population density is so high. Plus, most of our towns were established long before the age of motorization.

if you had roundabouts theyd replace the slightly bigger signalled intersections. not ones with the tiny neighborhood streets

WOW Nippon drivers are so amazing and cautious, unlike those filthy gaijin!

Japan has some of the scariest roads I've ever driven on. Imagine a twisting mountain road about 2 meters wide that's sheer rock on one side and a straight drop with no guardrail on the other side, with little cubbies cut into the mountain every 150m so cars going the opposite ways can pass each other. Now add to that the occasional wild animal and random collapsed or abandoned creepy storehouse. With how often my GPS loves to route me through these kinds of places it's kind of a miracle there aren't dozens of deaths a day on these trails.

Parking lots are scary too. Just last week at the supermarket I saw some obaachan nearly get pancaked by a guy looking at his phone.

Other than those two specific places, driving here is a treat.
