How much of an outdoor/nature culture is there in your country? I'm American and I feel like ours is very strong, but I'd much rather explore cities and towns or just stay inside.
>>
>>221290148
I'm in my bedroom and I still feel like I'm outside
>>
>>221290148
We have good ones, but it's not enough due to overpopulation.
I'm genuinely jealous of americans for their beautiful and very large nature. you guys also have actual national parks.
It's too bad there's americans in it.
>>

>It's too bad there's americans in it
What's wrong with Americans?

Huge. We have the whole "freedom to roam" law making all land available for everyone so camping, hiking, berry/mushroom picking etc is deeply integrated in Swedish life.
Also helps that 70% of the country is forest, lakes, swamps, wetlands etc.
>>
>>221290338
are those huckleberries?
>>
>>221290335
There are some things that I really like and something that I don't like, it was mostly hyperbole from my part.
But, things such as: tipping culture, extremely polarizing but ultimately the same political spectrum, limited social welfare (for a country as wealthy as you are), evangelical mindset
all of them gave me a headache.
>>
>>221290391
>tipping culture
I mean yeah this sucks
>extremely polarizing but ultimately the same political spectrum
what do you mean?
>limited social welfare
lol
>evangelical mindset
I know like two evangelicals
>>
>>221290357
Lingon at the top. Raspberry and Blackcurrant at the bottom.
>>
>>221290411
>extremely polarizing but ultimately the same political spectrum
Left wing and right wing from your country talks as if the other is a spawn of rape satan but the presidential term of both seems to be largely the same (with exceptions).
>evangelical mindset
I don't mean actual evangelical, but more about how strongly they think they're right, seeing disagreement as your own moral failure, constantly debating stuff.
This also applies to atheists and even to fandoms.
>>
>>221290485
>the presidential term of both seems to be largely the same
This is just objectively not true. Look at the supreme court and the bureacracy. Massive differences.
>more about how strongly they think they're right
Would you rather we think we're wrong?
>>
>>221290523
I meant it more in the actual stances
>both wants capitalism
>both interventionist (despite the sayings)
>both adhere to the same lobbies and donors (israel, etc)
>both support millitary overspending
Both are also more moderate than their supporters, or at least the ones you see online.

>Would you rather we think we're wrong?
Believing you’re right is normal. Treating disagreement as proof someone is stupid, evil, or needing conversion is not.
>>
>>221290705
>both wants capitalism
>both interventionist (despite the sayings)
>both adhere to the same lobbies and donors (israel, etc)
>both support millitary overspending
"Capitalism" is a very broad term, interventionism and military spending are necessary to protect American power, and they absolutely do not both adhere to the same donor causes.
>Treating disagreement as proof someone is stupid, evil, or needing conversion is not.
If someone's objectively wrong they're gonna be one of those things.
>>

Depends I guess. Winter might be rough unless you have a reliable electrical source since solar is pretty much useless in the winter months.
But I see a lot of van-lifers in the summer where I live.

Outdoors culture has gotten very popular due to instagram and other social media so every 20/30 something here is into hiking nowadays
>>
>>221291265
Idk i never see anyone on trails even back in europe. Hopefully it stays that way.
Hiking groups are also litteraly only boomers and young men.

"Hiking" in the Netherlands is called going for a walk
>>
>>221291475
They go abroad for their instagram nature walks, ie Germany, France, northern Italy, Shitzerland
>>
>>221290984
Aren't you supposed to pay a fee if you drive into them to start hiking. I'd swear I had read in a Yosemite guide once.

In our national parks you are just required to follow certain rules. Free camping is generally forbidden, while bivouac sheltering is still allowed.
>>
>>221291574
Depends
>>
pretty shite, my father is a HS teacher and tells me its not uncommon that a school field trip is the first time some of them leave London.
>>
>>221291574
>Free camping is generally forbidden
Dear gods i hate this serf continent.
>>
>>221290984
Basically every country that isn't some city state has national parks. The point is that national parks aren't really available to everyone, especially not in people's daily lives, as you usually have to travel to them and that takes time and money and that makes it a hobby of the few and not an everyday culture of the many.
>>
>>221290148
so much its not even a culture its just a natural part of life.
anyone who see it as a culture, a "thing", instantly become slightly cringe to me
>>
>>221291677
We have state parks, federal public land, and private hiking paths pretty much everywhere. The image I get is that in Europe it's much more roaming between villages whereas in America it's just hiking in the wild.
>>
>>221291724
>The image I get
Maybe you should talk about reality instead of images in your head?
>>
>>221291743
America is significantly more forested, significantly less dense, and significantly more wild than Europe. Finland isn't very dense so it might not apply to you.
>>
>>221291772
I wasn't talking about Europe, dumbass.
>>
>>221290984
national parks: usa and national parks: nordics are two very different things. here you might want to avoid national parks
>strickt rules
>everything is protected
>most likely rangers around
>tourist trap since foreigners dont understand our outdoors laws and flock there
vs just hiking on random land
>no one gives a fuck
>rangers have powers on private land as well but never go there because why should they?
>can go days without seeing anyone
>more freedom than any national park
basicly a park here is a protected area, the rest of our country equal to your national parks in that its open for everyone.
>>
>>221291661
Not every tourist coming here stays at the coast anon, you don't know how packed it can become at summer. Thats why avoid hiking in summer at all costs. I go kayaking on summer in relatively secluded areas, I hike during the other three seasons.
That "van life" thing is starting to become a problem.
>>
>>221290148
Country is too small, most land is private, large plots of forest has been cut down, if you find a nice uninhabited plot of land or forest patch or a trail then 5 minutes later you can already hear quadbikes somewhere nearby riding illegally and causing damage and destroying eveything in their path
>>
>>221291536
Never seen anyone younger than 55 on a trail and i go to the alps all the time
>>
>>221291786
Then why are you so pissed at my response? Hiking is very accessible here. Unless you live in like NYC lol
>>
>>221291853
I lived in George and Knysna area for about 2 years. Your country (apart from social issues) is beautiful.
>>
>>221291886
Beautiful until you see the hordes of criminal niggers and decaying infrastructure
>>
>>221291864
Because you started equating my country with western Europe and denying my argument on that basis. My argument was that you don't have a strong outdoor culture if you don't have the freedom to roam. It can only be a hobby for the few if you can't just go outdoors whenever you want where ever you are. I didn't say anything about Europe being better than America but you started treating me as if I said so. All of Europe doesn't have freedom to roam just like you and they don't have a strong outdoor culture, just like you.
>>
>>221291910
I saw that in Johannesburg, quite a scary place desu
>>
>>221291914
With all due respect anon your country has about 5 million people in it. Europe as a whole has 700 million.
>It can only be a hobby for the few
I'm not sure if you understand America anon. EVERYONE has a car. EVERYONE drives.
>>
>>221291608
Could you ellaborste, not every park as for a fee depending on the park popularity, or do you snesk from another point in the boundarkes....
>>
Strong
>>
>>221291978
Depends on the park. I've only been to a few.
>>
>>221291928
And people still support racial equality. It's absurd.
>>
>>221291834
>That "van life" thing is starting to become a problem
Yea heavens forbid if someone is not a tithe paying serf in this continent right?
>>
>>221291954
>With all due respect anon your country has about 5 million people in it. Europe as a whole has 700 million.
What does that have to do with anything when talking about countries with freedom to roam? You're just dumb and thought every country in Europe has freedom to roam and made this your typical Europe vs. America fight.
>>
>>221291800
Interesting. Like 30% of our land is state owned so we have a ridiculous amount to walk on. That's mostly in the West though. In the East there are still plentiful state parks. In my honest opinion right to roam wouldn't make much of a difference in America because our infrastructure is so unwalkable that it wouldn't work even if you wanted to do it.
>>
I stay in my bedroom I got bored of indian outdoors
>>
>>221292029
You're the one who brought up right to roam baka
>>
>>221292076
Jesus you're dumb. Yes I brought it up. What I didn't bring up was EUROPE. You brought that up for no reason when I wasn't talking about EUROPE. I was talking about FREEDOM TO ROAM
>>
>>221292093
You are European. And right to roam doesn't have as much of an impact on outdoor culture as you think.
>>
>>221292125
No, I'm Finnish, and my country has the freedom to roam and yours doesn't. And it has a massive impact on your outdoor culture. You just can't comprehend what it's like when you can just step out from your door and walk to a forest basically everywhere in the country. That creates a totally different kind of culture than when you HAVE TO DRIVE to get to the outdoors.
>>
>>221292152
Anon we couldn't step out of our door and walk anywhere to get to the outdoors even if we had right to roam. We actually have paths and nature freely accessible pretty much everywhere, it's just that our infrastructure isn't walkable.
Also you need to post signage or warn someone to actually charge them with trespassing.
>>
>>221292237
>we couldn't step out of our door and walk anywhere to get to the outdoors even if we had right to roam
Which just confirms you don't have a strong outdoors culture.
>>
>>221292295
Only by your ridiculous definition meant to advantage your country and only your country. If it's extremely common to go hiking, kayaking, climbing, etc but we drive to get there it somehow doesn't count?
>>
>>221292338
Not my country only. There are many countries with freedom to roam and the ability to do so. Those countries have a strong outdoors culture. Your country has neither the right or the ability since apparently your people largely do not care about such things and the average American doesn't spend time in the outdoors that often, which means your country does not have a strong outdoors culture. What you're talking about in your country is something every country in the world has. That is not a STRONG outdoors culture.
>>
Nonexistent. Everything here is private property.

It's a mixed bag I would say. While we don't have many large nature reserves (like the USA or the scandinavian countries) many go for a walk in the nearby woods. And while the population density in Germany is relatively high, there is a large number of small to medium sized woods which can be entered by anyone. Thus many just go for a walk in the nearby woods. And there are a myriad of maintained hiking trails which allow for longer tours.
Personally I just go into the woods behind my house (pic rel).
>>
It's still weak (You) have to pay for it but USA has this national park pass that's like $200 and grants you entry to everywhere for a year. It's not like we don't pay for our parks from the taxes.
>>
>>221291724
>whereas in America it's just hiking in the wild.
How many people actually do this in their day to day live?
>>221292027
Don't van lifers literally pay tithes (fees) in order to have guaranteed parking spaces?
>>
>>221291886
What did you do there?
>>
>>221293321
Yea in this open air prison thats what they are doing. Im guessing they are doing the same in continental europe but less extreme or at least not as extreme as theyd like to. Anyways fuck europe, so glad its getting browned.

>>221290338
That freedom to roam shit only works in homogenous small white countries. Here it would get packs of blacks walking up on your house in the country in the middle of the night.
>>
>>221292237
Speak for yourself. I walk everywhere, including to a state forest.
>>
>>221292611

>>
>>221293321
> How many people actually do this in their day to day live?
Everyone who hikes
>>
>>221292051
state or private doesnt matter here, within reason. we have a clear and well defined limit between farmland, housing areas, business areas and such and just random forest and mountains. first one is off limit latter is free for everyone. i regulary see tourists and foreigners struggle with this, they think they can camp in someones back yard... many landowners have never even seen all their land, they just happend to hold a paper saying its theirs.
then you got veirdo cases like finnmark where the entire state is co-owned by everyone living in it.
>>
>>221290148
>How much of an outdoor/nature culture is there in your country?
Not very much. Most Croats are very fat and unhealthy. West Euros and people from the country you posted are much more outdoorsy and active in sports.
>>
>>221291677
American national parks are fucking massive though. Especially the ones in the west.
>>
>>221290148
I think it's quite common here. I think 80% of the population goes to nature and forests at summer and autumn.
>>
>>221290338
I wish we had salmon in my region... We have some rare kind of salmon species. But they're few and protected.

Alaska has the biggest parks. I don’t even consider Death Valley to be a national park despite being the biggest in the west
>>
>>221299879
i caught one of thoose in the middle of trondheim
>>
>>221290148
>How much of an outdoor/nature culture is there in your country?
Not a lot. We have a few places like the Lake District and Snowdonia where outdoorfags like to go hiking, but the country is just a bit too dense for that sort of thing. Plus, when you leave one village, you typically just walk through private land or farmland until you get to the next one two miles later.
