>Helsinki railway station area to be mostly car-free>In a historic move, the city council decided to ban most vehicles from the main thoroughfare in front of the Central Railway Station.>Helsinki has decided to abolish car traffic on Kaivokatu, the street in front of the city's central train station. That is part of plans to transform the heart of the capital into a pedestrian district.>The central traffic route between the east and west sides of the city will be closed and replaced with trees, outdoor cafés and two new tram tracks.>The changes will be implemented gradually between now and the early 2030s.https://yle.fi/a/74-20224725We're reaching levels of walkability that shouldn't be possible. Cagers btfo
Why don't they just block the road with flower pots and do it now instead of in 5-10 years. but good decision t. never been to helsinki
okay and what if they need an ambulance?
>>221304261do you think emergency vehicles have to follow all the rules? were you born yesterday?
>>221303073whats the point? on this pic there is already a lot of place. i dont get these policies that benefit no one but makes things worse for many
>>221305947yes every city should just be a big parking space like in USA, makes perfect sense
>>221306846Yes? I don't want to share a bus with your kind
>>221307029then stay out in the boonies rural retard. you're not cut out for city life
>>221306846but there is already plenty of space there so what is the problem? why bring up usa out of nowhere? what do you want sit in the middle of the road or do you just mingle there or what? what is your reasoning im triyng to understand? im generally not against making things more pedestrian friendly but there has to be a good reason if you want to reduce mobility and make it a pain in the ass for drivers. what do you gain from this?here in my city some of the more pedestrianized places are really bad to actually live there as they get loud, people smoking, pissing and throwing up in the corner, etc. my general expression is that a lot of these anti-car changes slowly turn cities into museums and tourist hotspots as it is generally the tourists that just mingle around the streets, they dont necessary make it better for people to live there. and the thing is with these pedestrianized bait places people spam here like amsterdam city center, etc. there are more foreigners and tourists there than actual dutch so you end up building a city for tourists and foreigners basically. in every western city the actual local people are getting pushed out further and further, this happens everywhere
>>221307399I think they just want to make it more pleasant
>>221307399did you even read the story?>replaced with trees, outdoor cafés and two new tram tracks.so it improves public transportation.>my general expression is that a lot of these anti-car changes slowly turn cities into museums and tourist hotspots as it is generally the tourists that just mingle around the streets, they dont necessary make it better for people to live there.most people living in Helsinki don't even own a car retard
We do that IN AUSTRIA though.(banning cars with non-local license plates on the yellow streets)
>>221307757based. what happens here?
More space for H’bumbu to stab women and deal drugs in
>>221307846Mountain, the one on the left in this photo. But there is also one on the western side of the river and the central city is wedged between them. There are parking garages even inside the mountains that can be accessed from outside roads, so this is mostly attempting to block through traffic.
>>221307757How the fuck do you get across the river with a non local plate?
>>221308336this looks so cool. Finland is too flat, why are all the other countries bogarting all the mountains
>>221308478you go around and find another bridge
>>221304261Ambulances, firetrucks etc. get to drive through like usual. This would actually make emergency services faster in the area.
>>221308478Local bridge for local people. If you just build a small bridge for the locals, cagers from out of town will infest it in weeks and now you have bumper to bumper jam through the area because "it's 5 minutes faster than driving the big roads".
>>221308478Autobahn preferably, but Lehener and Karolinen also remain open, so literal notbingburger.
>>221308931yeah if I'm driving then I'm going to one of the larger shopping centers outside of the city, it makes absolutely zero sense to bring a car downtown
>>221303073I wish I were finnish
TOTAL SUBURBIA DEATH
>>221303073basedwith that much public space imagine how many more Finnish men will meet nice immigrant women (indian!) and start happy, conservative families
>>221312128>finnish men>conservative
>cagers look at this picture and unironically go "Yep. That's better!"
>>221312617>äiti haluan Itäblokin!!!!>meillä on jo Itäblokki kotona, kulta>itäblokki kotona:
>>221303073What's their plan for people being dropped off or picked up at the station?
>>221303073>We're reaching levels of walkability that shouldn't be possible.that sucks, i'm sorry to hear that and hope you'll get better soon.
>>221312709You can still drive to the end of the station (I think around the area the taxis are waiting in lower left corner in >>221312617 that's where I picked up my mum the only time I picked someone from that station), you can just no longer drive through to the other side.
>>221303073AIIIIIII MY GOYMOBILE IS BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, TASKATE ISRAEL-SAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
