They showed extreme home makeover here on the TV like 20 years ago and I always thought it was ridiculous they always had some "theme" to the room. Kid likes trains? MAKE EVERYTHING TRAIN RELATED. do americans really "theme" their rooms?

yes and I had the train room. But it had real train stuff dad had stolen from work so everything was filthy and smelled like grease. It was extremely fucking cool and my bedroom was right next to the garage where I could work on my bike.

my sisters' room was horse themed, so mom put up all the skulls of her old horses around along with great grandma's original bed and candlebra light fixtures. The cat litter box was put in there for authentic barn smell
>>
Grandpas room was gun themed with all of our guns on the walls, under all the antlers.

My parents did that but only the TV room. The subdivision fucked us on a bad utility hookup, so they comped us with a free room themeing. Instead of the stock Cinema or Home Cinema theme we went with Gas Station. TV room was painted a nice shade of OD Industrial Green, two-tone on slate white with neon signs. Entertainment Center was custom stained green wood. Light fixtures were reused from an actual classic gas station that was torn down, and both doorways replaced with a custom archway. It was really cool but didn't last the house, when we moved up we painted it all green and sold the signs/fixtures to a collector. Overall it was a pretty good deal.

My friend's parents paid extra for a custom Pink Girl Poker theme that had the entire dining room and TV room together (no wall), painted hot pink with cowhide trim. Light fixture was slightly pink with a custom "rose" sky ceiling. They took it out after the divorce.

this is known as "hispanic" and you can just buy one of them used, private party sale, no realtor fee. It's how my employer bought the company warehouse, which used to be like six of those homes but he tore them down

This is what a "gas station" theme looks like if Europeans are unaware.

There's a subdivision near me that actually licensed the rights to build officially themed Star Wars™ rooms from Disney. It's an extra $25,000 per room and, based from local Facebook groups, there's at least 20 of them.

The assorted belts hanging on the wall really sells it as authentic midwest gas station with a pull-in mechanic bay for changing tires.
They need about 15 years of dust on them though.

As you can imagine, the #1 theme is Pink For Girls. There's like 10 or 15 in their catalog, from just Pink to Pink Feminine (ie strip club), Barbie™ Official Pink, Disney Princess™, Generic Princess (like the latter but discounted), and Fashion Show. Most of the buyers tend to be First Time Home Buyers, which I later learned is a special term realtors use to describe people with no credit/bad credit, felony convictions, or other problems that give them a subprime loan. You know, the same ones that caused the market to collapse twenty years ago. Basically they figure out whatever their maximum monthly payment can be based on their wage, and just sell them up to that.

The #2 theme is Sports Big Screen TV which is an official setup they have. They got the "economy" Big TV setup and the better ones which include officially licensed sports branding from ML teams. Usually it's football and, honestly, most of the buyers here are older white men whose lives are football. The type of adult men who get their sons into pop warner despite the head injuries and permanent brain damage that got it banned in liberal states.

I know like 5 different Cowboys fans with rooms like this. They all call each other during games and don't actually go over to each others' homes anymore. Most of these homes are big enough to have both a formal den and TV room, so the husband and wife can watch TV separately. I notice this amongst a lot of older people now.

Chick Fil A loyalty is so bizarre and pathetic to me. Their food is fine and it’s fine to like it a lot, but this intense sentimental attachment to the brand just strikes me as absurd considering how minimal and sterile it is, and usually people hate that. It’s like romanticizing Ikea.
>>
is there anything sadder than an oversized living room wet bar. In most countries, like europe, this is either put in the servant's quarters, a separate room, or a small 2" wide cabinet like ikea has.

The light dates the entire house. Want to guess what year. Maybe 1965? 63? This probably stated as a Tiki or Hawaii themed room. Also that door is a new, standard Home Depot door that is not original to the house.

Some people in this world have too much money. God will judge them for using it like this as they neglect the poor.
>>
>>221310962
That's something they did for TV and I always thought it was weird too.
I remember one show where they were trying to figure out what kind of room to give the kid and he just happened to be fidgeting with a toy alien at the time so they were like
>oh you like aliens? You get the alien room with the UFO bed!
And even as I child I thought "but they just assumed that off of nothing, what if he barely cared about aliens at all"

Europeans think this sort of behavior is insane but they also have no idea that remodelling and renovating your home used to be considered a cheap way to liven up the average American home
