I'll help you. You use "lo" instead of "el" with masculine ADJECTIVES but when the adjective is an abstract concept.

El hermoso > the hermoso is SOMEONE
Lo hermoso > the hermoso is a CONCEPT

"Robaron al alto!" (they have robbed the tall man)

"La paz viene de lo alto" (peace comes from above)

>El + adjective
when talking about someone or something that is characterized bybthat adjective

>Lo + adjective
When turning that adjective into a noun, making it a concept

Other examples:

>El empleado malo
The bad employee

Here, "malo" is defining "empleado"

>Lo malo es que tú ha escapado!
The bad thing is that you have escaped!

Here, "malo" is not linked to anything or anyone, it is defining the situation as a whole as "malo"

>ha llegado EL hombre IMPORTANTE
The important man has arrived

>Debo hacer primero LO IMPORTANTE
I must do first that which is important

To understand it better you need to watch videos and read spanish
