Do English speakers learn English history, Spanish speakers Spanish history, etc?
>>221316618the schools do teach Europeans history here but no special focus on the history of Portugal,no
>>221316618the only european history we learned was the holocaust, of course
One or two years of a general euro history class. And there's usually an AP Euro class in high school available for the smarties
>>221316667>One or two years of a general euro history class.then what the fuck else do you learn then? America is so young, there isn't that much to talk about, unless you learn about indians but in the case of your country there isn't much to say either
Only learned about Canadian history except for WW1+2 at the end of elementary school and for 1 credit in high school but after that 1 mandatory credit there were more elective options for world history, also I'm sure some basic history was covered in foreign language classes
>>221316618No, we only have Brazilian and world history classes. I still even have the books here. They talk about things like feudalism, ww2 and the crusades in the same books that cover China, Babylon, and other ancient civilizations
>>221316695that's crazySo we learn history from the roman to WW2 but you guys spend your entire school curriculum talking about a mere 200 years? you surely must know every single detail of canada at this point
>>221316618only lusitanian history as it relates to rome and the reconquista, then colonialism
>>2213166842 years of holocaust studies, and 2 years of jim crow studies
>>221316721Not really, I recall almost all of it being about the start of our history and wasn't taught much more beyond that. I've unironically learned more from youtube channels.
>>221316783>2 years of holocaust studieswhy would you spend two whole years on the holocaust
>>221316618I never knew Europe existed until I was a man. If only I could go back to those carefree summer days of my new world youth, when everything seemed so fresh and clean and hopeful.
no. why would we
>>221316841do you learn about acadia and french canada or do you only start from the english conquest?
Yes I. Brazil I remember history classes about Ancient Greece, Rome, Middle Ages, renaissance, formation of Nation states, colonialism, unification of Italy and Germany, French Revolution and Industrial Revolution and ww I and II
>>221316853What do you learn about then? aztecs and mayas?
>>221316618I was homeschooled and my parents didn't even teach me much recent US history. It was foundational American history, a bunch of stuff about the settlers because my mom loved talking about them even though we lived in New England, and then a bit about the Civil War, then back to state history a bit but all around the revolutionary war, then at some point we vaguely covered the industrial revolution and the world wars, and we actually got a pretty good amount of ancient history mostly Greek, Roman, and Egyptian to sort of go along with the whole homeschooled biblical history stuff. We also had some native american stuff, mostly the eastern tribes that had lived near our area. The rest was mainly just encouraging/allowing us to read the great collection of condensed versions of historical fiction, we had lots of old books given to my parents as wedding gifts mostly. So I learned in an intuitive, unstructured way about individual and collective european ethos in a non-linear way along with getting some disjointed historical context. Actually, a lot of our assigned history was just her reading to us or having us read historical fiction or textbooks. We only had dialup and weren't really allowed to use it much, so I filled in my historical knowledge on my own in my teens once we had DSL and eventually cable internet.>>221316684There is an extreme breadth and depth of American history to talk about, you have no idea. Our country was created and lived its entire life so far in "fast times", and weirdly we actually caught up to Europe infrastructurally and participated in the industrial revolution abreast of you.Our ancestors worked quite a lot despite whatever revisions you may have heard to the contrary.I assume public schools used to teach a decent amount of general European history along with American foundational and 20th century history, and ancient history, but I would guess they now mostly focus on black history and colonialization.
>>221316846stop being antisemitic, chud
>>221316861Yeah I learned some of the New France period but not about Acadia. Also I'm think there are more deep dives into the history of where you live since I was going to say I didn't learn anything about the western provinces and just bit about the ones east of Ontario.
>>221316957yes our nations young age is misleading to europeans since their nations developed relatively slow compared to the united states. you can look at any 10 year period and find a major event happening
>>221316957>>221317144it's so stupid how americans talk about their country as if it started from scratch with stones and sticks and not as a modern western country with modern institutions
>>22131661Argie here. Not really... we did study the industrial revolution, the french revolution, world wars, etc but Spanish history? No.We did read quiet a lot of Spanish literature though.
>>221317212>hah americans must think they invented fire because they talk about having to build everything from the ground upIt is you who are remarkably stupid. But that's what Marxist revisionism does to a culture, we're experiencing it now.Don't worry, our grandchildren will think and act just like you if nothing changes.
>>221317212thanks for the statue, i think we can go on without you
>>221317258>But that's what Marxist revisionism does to a culture, what the FUCK are you talking about
>>221317397lol you are ridiculous if you felt insulted by me not calling you a brand new civilization
>>221317463i am not insulted, i just didn't have a productive response to your message since you didn't seem to understand that american history is a quite eventful. i don't know why you mention existing institutions since the whole point of this country was to kick them out and make our own in order to operate as a democratic republic
>>221316684Middle school it was a lot of generic social studies classes that I remember nothing of High school i only took 2 years of us history one of which was ap us history. and I later took a history course on the middle east
>>221316618No, with the exception of European colonization of the Americas +WWI and WWII
