The famous confrontation that occurred in 1909 (sometimes cited as 1908) in Rio de Janeiro, between the Brazilian capoeira master Ciríaco Macaco Velho (Old monkey) and the Japanese jiu-jitsu instructor Sada MiyakoThe Duel of 1909: Ciryac vs. Sada MiyakoThe Context: The Brazilian Navy hired Sada Miyako to train officers, and he was considered unbeatable. The Capoeira Master: Francisco da Silva, known as Ciríaco, was a stevedore (coffee porter) and renowned capoeira master. The Fight: Ciríaco defeated Miyako in the international pavilion, taking down the Japanese fighter with a stingray tail just minutes after the fight began, which caused a great stir at the time.Impact: Ciríaco's victory was celebrated by the nationalist press as proof of the effectiveness of "Brazilian fighting" against jiu-jitsu, even though capoeira was marginalized at the time
>>221334746I'm more of a kickboxing/Muay Thai dude because the simple stuff will always be more effective, there's a reason why Alex Pereira will fight in the main card at the white house and Michel Pereira is about to get cut if he hasn't already. Anything works against normalfaggots though.

>>221334746>>221335149You are wrong, but I don't blame you for this, no one knows shit about Capoeira, even its own practioners. I mainly blame the black nationalists for this, they took something that was Brazilian and exarcebated the afroness of it and now it's muh "Afro-Brazilian" martial art, with some retards even saying it's fully African (Capoeira Angola), and it's just it's not. There were many different styles of Capoeira, and they all had different contexts, but when people think of Capoeira they think of the jogo, which is just playful light sparring, not hard sparring or actual fighting, from a style that is more focused on the cultural side of the martial art than actual fighting (Capoeira Contemporanea). Capoeira Carioca for example, was used by actual gangs against cops until the early 1900s, and it's basically Brazilian Muay Thai, less ground kicking and 'dacing', and more forward/backward movement like Karate, still with the unpredictability of the popular Capoeira. At it's best, think of Anderson Silva's striking, how fast, fluid and unpredictable he was, that was basically Capoeira Carioca. Other styles also had more focus on trips and even grappling, which also influenced BJJ. I also have my theory that our Muay Thai has a differently style to it because Capoeira Carioca was incorporated and it is corroborated by the fact the guy who brought Muay Thai here was also a Capoeira practioner and his first gym was in Rio. Anyway, the fact Brazil seems to have no interest in its own shit is depressing as fuck. Even BJJ isn't promoted as much as it should be, it should be in every school.>TLDR: Capoeira isn't like what you think, but I don't blame you.
