If I wanted money as a kid I had to work for it like shovelling sidewalks/driveways in winter, or mowing lawns in summer. My parents were well off but they wanted to teach me the value of money and having an ability to do things on your own. It didn't stop me from making bad financial decisions as a young adult but it did give me the tools to overcome my problems and survive as a lower income father in the current era.
