Why do the Chinese almost NEVER use tone diacritic with Pinyin? Makes things more complicated for people learning the language, for no real reason
>>221343631They do. It's just ass to do it all the time outside of Wikipedia or a dictionary. Even typing it is a pain in the butt.
Why does English almost NEVER spell words as they are pronounced?! How the fuck does gh make the /f/ in "laugh" but it's silent in "though"? Why not just use the letter f?! Makes things more complicated for people learning the language, for no real reason
>>221343757just convert the original chinese script text automatically duh
>>221343631Because the pinyin transliteration is made for you (foreigner), not for them.Chinese people don't need pinyin in the first place since they can just read the characters.
>>221343792you're complaing about the official scripts I'm talking about the transcription scheme, totally differentkoreans are even worse with how they hyphenate their given names in latin, totally pointless
>>221343792gook midwit brain
>>221343631when it's written like this it's more like writing the name in english. you would not include diacritics. see any chinese person's name.>>221343801chinese learn pinyin first, so initially they need it. the input methods on keyboard don't use diacritics though it just includes everything.
>>221343792hwan genius mind
>>221343792Spelling wasn't standardized in the past. Certain variants crystallized and became standard over centuries, presumably based on which ones are more aesthetically pleasing within the context of the language as a whole. "Laff" looks ridiculous, "laugh" is more elegant. I am making this up but maybe it's true.
>>221343631Most words become homographs if written in an alphabet, even with tonal diacritics.
>>221343631Why is there a j after ling?
