In the 90s we had paper bags and glass bottles Around 2000 things like lays started showing up in the market and by 2005 full effects of 1991 economic reforms (opening up to the west) started showing up. Glass bottles (coca cola, frooti etc.) got replaced by PET bottles (celebrities promoted it like it is a hip thing). India's population has nearly doubled from 1991 and nearly 1.5x'd from 2001 (when we hit 1 billion officially). India was never ready for plastic waste management. In 15 years you'll start seeing a similar crisis of ewaste from smart phones
