Why do we use English to communicate internationally? We should use a neutral language like Esperanto instead.
>>
>>221481721
Esperanto is too biased towards Romance languages.
>>
>>221481830
so is English
>>
>>221481721
We should use a language not based on the latin script, because most of the world population does not use it, and asians have difficulty learning it.
>>
>>221481838
Not really, it's quite well-balanced in terms of vocabulary and the grammar is also very obviously Germanic.
>>
esperanto is too spanish/portuguese
>>
>>221481861
More like they should have dropped their retarded gatekeeper alphabets like 500 years ago.

English may be very frequently arbitrary and retarded, and buried under layers of conflicting literary and historical abstraction, but it overperforms massively in widely available written material both in paper and online, and especially overperforms in pre-existing spoken material to learn from, be it television shows, news broadcasts, movies, whatever.
Anglos simply have an incredible volume of cultural output, past and present.
English is magnetic, you can't help learning some of it. It's like how I'm slowly and against my own will learning more and more Spanish simply by being exposed to it more in media and on signs and labels here.
Also no one speaks Esperanto so it's an extra language for everyone.
French is too bizarre in its pronunciation vs spelling, somehow even worse than English with its vowels and also turns consonants into vowels randomly.
Southern European languages are too regionally variant and different from one another.
Dutch is similar to English in both form and influence, it's less that "Dutch isn't a real language" and more that "almost every language is a little bit Dutch now".
I think Spanish and Dutch are the only really good alternatives, but Spanish also has the extreme variations in pronunciation and form across its far-flung geographical range of speakers, and doesn't have as much influence in Europe itself.
Dutch was sort of a "lingua franca" for sailors and travelers before English was but after French was, and is easy to understand for an even wider range of European languages than English is, it makes the most sense in a way but at that point you may as well just speak English since it's so prevalent.
And Dutch lost a lot of its power with the end of colonialism.

Thread still up

Back in the good ol' days a thread wouldn't last more than a day

>the grammar
There's almost no grammatical rules in this "language"
>>
>L. L. Zamenhof[a] (1859–1917) was the creator of Esperanto, the most widely used constructed international auxiliary language.[1][2]
>Zamenhof was born on 15 December 1859,[b] the son of Mark and Rozalia Zamenhof (née Sofer), in the multi-ethnic city of Belostok in the Russian Empire (now Białystok in Poland).
>He went to a cheder until age 13
Every fucking time.

Yet you managed to break them (e.g: there's => there are)
>>
>>221481721
>Why do we use English to communicate internationally?
because English speakers invented every method of mass communication.
>>
>>221481721
English is pretty good compromise between the Germanic and Romance languages (the only languages that matter in the world)

Why we (actually you) don't regulate english.
Stop thing like "went". "Goed" do a better job
>>
Why does Esperanto use the Latin alphabet? Why not use a brand new alphabet that nobody is familiar with?

Went is the past tense of wend.
The more you knoed...
>>
>>221482655
Isn't wend a slavic tribe?
>>221482561
Because it was created in era where Europe(and USA) dominated the world. The creator didn't cared enough to include the opinions of non-euros
>>
>>221482891
So it's entirely pointless to swap english for esperanto.
>>
>>221482891
I don't know it might be, but as an English verb it means to go or travel. "Wend your way" is an old equivalent of "make your way" and even now rivers are said to "wend their course" or you can "wend your way down a river", it sort of has come to imply a winding/indirect route but it still means to travel.
>>
>>221482891
You should try and make an esperanto thread sometime and see if there are any speakers of it on /int/, maybe you could grow its popularity
Or toki pona might work better if no one knows any conlangs, because it's tiny enough for someone to theoretically refer to its core docs if linked in the OP and start to use it before the thread 404d
>>
>>221482561
Latin has no vernacular language, you'd basically need to invent a new language from scratch to use Latin in any capacity apart from writing. I would rather take French over some culturally neutral conlang used as a global language.
>>
>>221481721
We should all speak Japanese

Amoo....etto.....wakarimasu ka....
>>
>>221482561
even less people would be using esperanto if that were the case
>>
>>221483079
NEVER. I don't want my language to become thirdie language like English. We are witnessing Anglos becoming increasingly less intelligent because of this.
>>
>>221483079
Japanese isn't that good or logical either. I say a fully synthetic new language made by intelligent AIs when they achieve that stage and global council, or nothing for lingua franca for humanity
