I've been trying to fix myself within a religion for a long time, so I've been searching for some traditions that I fit the most, somehow.I figured out it must be one of these:Hinduism (vaishnavism)Islam (sunni and sufi)Christianity (greek orthodox)Protestantism (lutheranism and methodism)You can find some unity between them but many differences. They are mostly incompatible between themselves.I have no idea which one I choose. Can /int/ernational community help me find the best one?
>>221514779Just be good and love thy brethren
>>221514923I can do that, but without God's help it is impossible.
>>221514779Make your own religion.or now that i think about it, you might be a vpn-indian
>He hasn't made his own personal cosmology with himself at the epicentreIt might be over for you
>>221515019I am brazilian.I was raised catholic but went astray. The country is mainly divided between catholics and protestants (and a minority which are neither one of these).Creating a religion sounds cool but it also can end up being a fake extremely personal faith that has few contact with reality or other people.I tried to do that somehow, mixing elements of each one of these, but at the end of the day it is the same as not participating in any.
>>221515160>>221515247you are a cultural protestant so this idea resonates more to youI come from a more communal/traditional culture, that cannot view the self or the individual idea of God as separate from a tradition or community

>>221515373hmm
all of religion is in the buddha dharma
>>221515557A bit late to the meme party but oh well.
>>221514779If you're an ADHD autist, you'll love Islam. Your entire day is regimented by the 5x daily prayers. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
>>221514779Sure pick out the tenets of whichever religion call out to you but practice them with the belief that they're supposed to make you a net positive for you and yours. Doesn't matter which one it is. You shouldn't place your faith onto an idea of a deity because it won't work as they don't interact with us(if they exist). Really just treat religion as a set of guardrails that you can follow with the knowledge that a lot of it works as a system distilled from thousands of years of wisdom. Not because of some nebulous belief that one of them is superior to others.
All the religions I'm familiar with are too silly. And when you strip away the extra lore, they all basically just boil down to "just be a nice person"
>>221514779Stop clinging to a god and become emotionally independent. All religions are memes except buddhism.
>>221516007Buddhism seems really funny as well, it's like you're playing a rogulelite where you try to rank up your karma. You reincarnate, but at the same time they don't believe in a soul so they don't really even know what exactly gets reincarnated. So I guess basically you just die, then some new guy keeps your stats. Most Buddhists don't even try to achieve nirvana, they just try to keep their karma good enough that they get a decent respawn. You can also donate karma to family members like it's some kind of currency. Then you can also basically buy karma by donating to monks
>>221516109In the hindu tradition, Buddha is just an avatar of Vishnu.
>>221516109>they don't really even know what exactly gets reincarnatedyou are your actions, every life of yours is connected by a thread of karma>Most Buddhists don't even try to achieve nirvananirvana is here>Then you can also basically buy karma by donating to monksthose orange conmen will obtain buddhahood only once they give up their elitistic demeanor and embrace the Mystic Law of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo
>>221516109They do know exactly what is reborn, but they don't try to teach that as a gospel message because that is not the point of the buddha's teachings. The Buddha's teachings are for the purpose of ending the suffering of beings, for teaching them to examine themselves and address the afflictions that keep them in a state of suffering. The Buddha came as a doctor to heal the sick, and his message is primarily about human suffering and psychology, not about metaphysical theorythe Buddhist metaphysical view is rooted in meditative observation, and so the understanding of it is something that can only come with practice, not through trying to explain in words and symbolsand so people with cursory wikipedia-level knowledge of Buddhism never actually understand it, but they always think they doto truly witness the non-dual nature of reality, the emptiness of all phenomena, the interpenetration of worlds, you have to start with the precepts and with meditationyou can't just study it in a book
>>221517008>but they don't try to teach that as a gospel message because that is not the point of the buddha's teachingskosen rufu is down the street
Lotus Sutra chapter 14

>>221517571And in this 14th chapter of the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha says:>若菩薩摩訶薩 於後惡世 欲說是經 當安住四法Should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, in later, wicked ages, wish to teach this sutra, he should dwell in four dharmas:it is precisely an instruction for teaching the Lotus Sutra in such an ageunless the lotus sutra is a lie
>>221515318Dude you're Brazilian, just be Catholic
>>221517875Catholicism is boring.
>>221517949You're not looking for faith, you’re looking for an identity. You just want to feel different from everyone elseThe way you talk about religions like they’re outfits is pathetic
>>221518061No, I am looking for faith and you are a dumb conservative.
>>221517702>it is precisely an instruction for teaching the Lotus Sutra in such an ageTeachings lose their power according to the time. A horse and buggy is no longer a practical means for transcontinental travel. The provisional teachings are no longer practical today. The teaching that all paths lead to the same place is an absurdity. Mein Kampf is a teaching. It is the teaching of Adolph Hitler. Does this teaching leads to the same place as the Lotus Sutra? No, the teachings of Mein Kampf lead to hell. The teachings of the Lotus Sutra lead to Buddhahood. Even the advanced teachings in the Flower Garland Sutra, for example, the "ten meditations", are useless in this Latter Day because those in the realms of Learning and Self Realization, our scientific and cultural leaders, are precluded from attaining Buddhahood through the teachings of the Flower Garland Sutra. Furthermore, no where in the Kegon Sutra are we exhorted to practice it in this degenerate age. Tientai taught the principle that the higher the teachings, the more people will be able to benefit. The Lotus Sutra is the highest teaching by the Buddha's own admission. Only the Lotus Sutra can benefit those people that the other sutras are powerless to benefit, we the people of this Latter Day.
>>221518276and the lotus sutra teaches us that we will not tell the sravakas, "you cannot be buddhas because you have strayed from the path" and that we will not engage in frivolous debates over dharmayou are a good teacher for leading me to patience with the non-arising of dharmas
>>221518718None of the other dharmas acknowledge the Lotus Sutra as the supreme sutra. If they did they would be equal to Nichiren's.
>>221517008>They do know exactly what is reborn, but they don't try to teach that as a gospel message because that is not the point of the buddha's teachingswise, side-steps the tired arguments hindus and buddhists have been having for over a millennium. But finn anon, what does buddhism as a personal philosophy, not a religion, uniquely offer to a lay buddhist, that allows him to heal the sick? From your perspective
>>221514779Hinduism (vaishnavism) sucks. Calvinism is the peak of religion.t. Hindu
>>221518930it doesn't present itself as dogmait only asks you to sit and examine what is immediately in front of youit invites you to test the ideas and see if they are real for yourself, to see if they fit with what you observe and if they are beneficialanyone can meditate on causality and derive the buddha dharma for themselves
>>221519172I feel like there should be a much simpler way to say whatever is being said here. So far I've gathered like, "think about it, and meditate". Ok cool
>>221519511>"Those who chant Myoho-renge-kyo [the title of the Lotus Sutra] even without understanding its meaning realize not only the heart of the Lotus Sutra, but also the “main cord,” or essential principle of the Buddha’s lifetime teachings."
>>221519701That sounds very silly, so I say myoho-renge-kyo out loud and now I've learned the Buddha teachings?
>>221519848>"Therefore, when you chant myōhō and recite renge,1 you must summon up deep faith that Myoho-renge-kyo is your life itself. You must never think that any of the eighty thousand sacred teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha’s lifetime or any of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directions and three existences are outside yourself. Your practice of the Buddhist teachings will not relieve you of the sufferings of birth and death in the least unless you perceive the true nature of your life. If you seek enlightenment outside yourself, then your performing even ten thousand practices and ten thousand good deeds will be in vain."
>>221514779You should learn Taoism
>>221519957See this is what I mean, you guys keep saying stuff and namedropping people and scrolls, but I still have no idea what I'm actually supposed to do or learn. This sounds like some kind of schizophrenia simulator
>>221520087>>221519957Actually my bad I read the picture now, but this just goes back to what I said here >>221515905 like they're basically just telling you to not be a dick
>>221520087There's an imperceptible essence that moves life and ties us to the whole cosmos. That's Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. When you chant with faith you are tuning your mind to the universe's symphony.
>>221519511If you want to ask, what is the medicine of the Buddha that can relieve all suffering? It comes in the form of the noble truths and the doctrine of dependent origination, to speak broadly1. In our perceived experience as sentient beings, there is suffering or ill-being (and also happiness or well-being, they are inseperable)2. That suffering is a compounded result of causes3. By removing the causes, the suffering can also be removed4. The path to removing these causes of suffering is in cultivating good karma (living ethically and upright in all actions, speech and thoughts) and maintaining a view of reality which is accurate and non-deludedThis non-deluded view of reality is rooted in dependent origination, the understanding that all things arise in dependence on causes, and therefore have no independent nature or substance to be observed. The heart of it is focused meditation, sitting in this exact moment of perception with perfect mental equipoise, a difficult skill to trainIt's about learning not to hold on to things and form identities, saying this is that or I am me, but merely allowing things to be as they are without discriminationIt does start with ethics as you say, but the further down into yourself and into the universe you ride it, the more mystical it becomes, which is why the language always becomes mystical at some point
>>221514779Abrahamic religions are total bullshit and should be ruled out, so Hinduism is the only option left
>>221514779sufism isn't islam. it is a gay deviant fatalist ascetic hippie religion and have nothing with islam.
>>221521048are you sure?As a "catholic" I tend more towards Greek Orthodoxy, but I always keep an open mind towards Islam and sufism looks like a legit path for wisdom and truth.
>>221520154which is essentially the point of any sane religion. don't be a dick. It glues society together.
>>221521144I personally want to think that people don't need a religion to realize that. I mean even wolves have their own rules, don't be a dick or you get kicked out of the pack. It just seems like a fundamental need for any creature that lives in groups, otherwise they'd just all kill each other probably
>>221521115it has nothing with islamic faith basics. it is like alevism and batiniyya. they twisted and mixed islamic faith with greek orthodoxy, zoroastrianism and tengrism. it is fatalist and ascetic. they are against tawhid belief and think everything is part of allah. muslims don't believe that and believe allah is one and only.
>>221521313this always gets mebecause if God created the world, how can the world itself not be a part of God?I believe it kinda is, otherwise he would have no power over it.
>>221521222That would be true if every man were equal, they are not and so there is friction. I'm a firm believer that many people just don't want to sit and grasp what actions they're commiting against themselves or others and so need a written set of processes, but even those get ignored and here we are.
>>221521545this is the faith of deviants. you shouldn't think like that. allah have power for everything, becoming part of what he created isn't his needful.
>>221521796saying god is within creation does not excludes his sovereignity, it only acknowledges he is in and also outside of all things. the duality god vs. world remains, it just gives you a clear access towards knowledge
>>221521945>>221521796can you imagine how in the moment of creation, if we believe all was created out of nowhere, the world having some kind of autonomy outside God?no, he is everywhere and this is basic knowledge, but it has to be understood in a careful way
>>221516561Correct. The sanskrit term for the Ultimate Reality was later conflated with Buddha. He was known as Bhagvan Buddha
