>>221532035You can't talk about Colruyt without mentioning it's masterpiece.
>>221532035We tried exporting Colruyt to France but it failed miserably there.
I think that after Walmart tried to enter the German market and after a few years left if again with a loss of over a billion dollars and countless defeats at different courts (their work contracts and rules for employees were illegal), I think that after that colossal defeat foreign supermarkets don't have the courage anymore to try to open stores in Germany.Aldi or Lidl? Depends on the location. I shop at Aldi, my closest Lidl is next to a high rise complex full of Africans and Arabs. And those people seriously don't know how a supermarket works and cause all kinds of problems.
Somewhat reminds me of Cora, gives me nostalgic feeling
I always thought Colruyt were all in in those humiliation rituals for employees, like they have to stand up and never sit down, everything is deliberately barren and ugly... it's like wage dystopiaAt least Delhaize seems a bit more convivial
>>221535285Aldi used to look like that - like a warehouse with a cash register. Cheap neon lighting, cheap shelves. But in the last 15 years they have torn down every store and built new bigger ones in their places with a lot nicer interior. They now have nice floors, nice shelves, elegant lighting. The sort of industial bare-bones look in your Colruyt pictures I only know from Metro. But they're members only wholesale stores, not retail, and you need to actually own a business to apply for a membership card there.
>>221532035You managed to give your local grocery supermarket a hardware supply store vibes.
>>221535481There's a discount chain named Dia which looked straight from the post-URSS days, they have tried to refurbish ir a little. But Aldi and Lidl looked better. Lidl got off his poor's people supermarket after the 2008 crisis. I miss the late 90's early 2000s era where you could buy all kind of weird shit, from widescreen CRT TVs, to early digital cameras, the first x86 computers with 64 bit processors, or inflatable kayaks
>>221532047what a deeply unserious language
>>221536040>I miss the late 90's early 2000s era where you could buy all kind of weird shitHere in Germany it depends on the individual store and how much space they have for such products. I've bought a PC and a monitor at Aldi a long time ago (and they were superb, had them for 12 years!). Lidl and Aldi also used to have online shops from which you could mail order a lot of articles that they didn't all have in the shops. Aldi closed their online store last year, Lidl still has a online shop.
>>221536305god i still member people in the old days giving themself nicknames in Warcraft 3s multiplayer like "Aldi PC". Good times.

>>221536384I studied computer science at the university at the time, so I actually checked the specs of that Aldi PC. Not every model is good, but that one was excellent. It even had a TV graphics card and video recording and editing software (a digital VCR). I upgraded the harddisk later but it was 12 years old when I replaced it with a new PC. I still use the Aldi PC's keyboard presently, because it was a "multimedia keyboard" with special keys, for example for adjusting the sound volume.Man, those were the days ...
