The history and knowledge is lost. The Javanese used to built big ass ship and naval from pre-islamic to early islamic era. Early European explorer describe them as bigger and steonger than their ship. Then a chud Javanese sultan destroy them all and retreat to the interior, rendering Java as weak and easy target for colonisation.
