Ages ago I German told me that cavemen nail broke off naturally or were whittled down. But recently I learned that if you have wet nails they become soft and you can break them off at the line with pressure

Cavemen don't exist. Humans and our non-Human ancestors do not live in caves. It's just a place, where it's easier to find archeological remains of Human activity.

That said the idea that our neolithic ancestors were unhygienic is also false. You barely need any technology to brush your teeth (take hair from a boar) or wash your body (soap = animal fat). It would also not be hard to create a razor to shave yourself (or rather have the women of the tribe shave you). Even Romans used sea shells to shave. So "cavemen" didn't have nasty nails. They would have figured out a way to take care of them reliably.

Wow, so they just roamed and built tents? Like 100000 years ago

Well yeah this will happen if your fingernails grow without your consent and you've got a job at the rock smashing factory you know that's just the way it goes, getting your hands dirty sorta chips and grinds them down

No, they cant break off naturally without going all fucky and diagonal. The water method lets them be broken at the line

No way you actually believe that. If Human habitation was restricted to caves, like we are some kind vampire half-bat race, we would have never spread through the entire world.

Caves = shelter many cave = good but cave far away. Must walk to new cave
>>
How did early humans survive when they could get mauled by saber tooth tigers any second? I dont get it

If you are using your hands in stone and mud and clay yeah over time they will chip and grind down. I'm not saying that is ideal I'm just saying that if you use your hands in dirty work it happens.
