Huh. According to the DBP, in Malay it's bertih jagung. Bertih = popped grains, jagung = corn. However, it's almost always called popcorn in Malay, just like burger or sosej.

You're the one being obsessed. I could be from the north or central-west. South and southeast are not the only regions in this shithole, my man.

Why do Bolivians call popcorn "pipoca"?
>>
>>221600124

I once went to a midnight movie theater showing, and watched Ghost in the Shell while very drunk. I ate a bucket of popcorn. Over the next 48 hours, I felt very backed up and as I pooped, a great deal of blood came out. The sharp pointy hulls were cutting up a bunch of internal hemhorroids. I don't eat popcorn anymore, and I don't care to watch Ghost in the Shell anymore. You read my blogpost.

>The word pipoca isn't originally Portuguese; it comes from Old Tupi (specifically pï'poka), an indigenous language of Brazil. It is a compound word:
>Pira: Skin or skin-like covering.
>Pok: To burst or explode.
>So, literally translated from Tupi, pipoca means "bursting skin."

Oh yeah, I forgot corn originated in the americas, so indigenous people ate popcorn for thousands of years. For some reason in my mind, popcorn is a modern food.
