Chinese literally go to small european towns and think Europe is under developed because it doesn't have tall buildings. Asians want to catch up and to be viewed as futuristic so they figured putting everyone into mega cities with lights was the way to show the world they are developed. They looked at Sci-fi books from the west and tried everything to emulate it. I don't think it's a coincidence that asia's view of developed matches exactly the western 80s and 90s view of cyberpunk. I think it was directly influenced by it but they didn't realize we didn't view this as good but a warning. Every video now from an Asian country trying to show how advanced they are is to spam a bunch of lights in an over crowded sky view. Even India started doing it recently. This is purposeful.
