>Pepsi Number Fever (also known as the 349 incident) was a disastrous 1992 promotion by Pepsi in the Philippines.>Pepsi printed three-digit numbers (001–999) under bottle caps on its drinks. Most won small prizes, with 349 as the grand prize winner worth ₱1 million (about $40,000 USD at the time). The campaign was hugely popular and boosted Pepsi’s market share.>A printing/computer error caused hundreds of thousands of caps (estimates range from ~600,000 to 800,000) to be printed with 349 instead of the intended few. When 349 was announced as the winner on May 25, massive crowds showed up at Pepsi plants demanding the prize.>Pepsi refused to pay the full amount, calling it a mistake, and instead offered a small goodwill payment of ₱500 (~$18) to most claimants. This sparked riots, protests, bombings of Pepsi trucks/plants, lawsuits, and at least 5 deaths. The fiasco severely damaged Pepsi’s reputation in the country, though the company eventually settled many claims. Now that the dust has settled, who was in the wrong here? The Flips or Pepsi?
bepis obviously, it's crazy how companies get away with scamming customers like this all the time
>>221642919pepsi. imc a couple of years ago, some norwegian power company made an error and automatically exported all their electricity to Finland that day. This drove prizes to negative. When they discovered the mistake it was too late to stop it. They simply had to say Welp! and take the hit. Pepsi should've done the same.
>>221642919Browns are always in the wrong. Always.
>Many irate 349 bottle cap holders refused to accept PCPPI's settlement offer. They formed a consumer group, the 349 Alliance, which organized a boycott of Pepsi products and held rallies outside the offices of PCPPI and the Philippine government. Most protests were peaceful, but on February 13, 1993, a schoolteacher and a 5-year-old child were killed in Manila by a homemade bomb thrown at a Pepsi truck. In May, three PCPPI employees in Davao were killed by a grenade thrown into a warehouse.
>>221643170It doesn't help that there's still essentially no government regulation or even consequences for private companies in the Philippines, even today.
>>221642919>>221643577crazy how turdies are willing to destroy their countries and end lives over an amount of money that would be considered poverty tier in america
