during the korean war, while men headed to the battlefields women fled to safety
this phenomenon is still observed tiday

while young men are being exploited in the military, young women get a higher percentage of college education than men(they even have priority for preferred schools, such as law and medical schools and school located in seoul)

and then they complain on twitter about how dangerous korea is while living in one of the safest countries in the world

Pic related is a photo taken on the day after general Jaruzelski introduced martial law in 1981's communist Poland. It shows soldiers standing in front of the cinema called Moscow (kino Moskwa) which was screening Apocalypse Now (Czas Apokalipsy) at the time. Taking photos was obviously illegal at the time and Chris Niedenthal (the author) had to take care to smuggle it out.

yes, I think he tried to instigate hatred in the student movement that way? I wasn't sure about that, officially at least the gunman was a West German policeman. And the West German police let the Iranian bodyguards beat German protestors that day, which is outrageous.

>Despite outward appearances, the reunion was an unhappy one for Stirm. Three days before he arrived in the United States, the same day he was released from captivity, Robert Stirm received a Dear John letter from his wife Loretta informing him that their marriage was over. Robert later learned that Loretta had been seeing other men throughout his captivity and had received marriage proposals from three of them. In 1974, the Stirms divorced and Robert was ordered to provide Loretta with their $24,000 home (equivalent to $156,680 in 2025) and their car, as well as $300-a-month child support and 42.9% of his military pension once he retired from the Air Force,[10][11] although the divorce judge stated that much evidence was presented to the court of Loretta's infidelity while Stirm was a prisoner.[10] That same year, both Loretta and Robert Stirm remarried.[12] Robert Stirm was later promoted to colonel, retired from the Air Force in 1977,[10] and died on Veterans Day, 2025.[13][12] Loretta Stirm died on August 13, 2010, from cancer.[14]

A Child Is Born (full title: A Child Is Born: The drama of life before birth in unprecedented photographs. A practical guide for the expectant mother; original Swedish title: Ett barn blir till) is a 1965 photographic book by Swedish photojournalist Lennart Nilsson. The book, consisting of 31 chapters and 160 pages, contain photographs charting the development of the human embryo and fetus from conception to birth; it is reportedly the best-selling illustrated book ever published.[1] Nilsson's photographs were originally accompanied by medical text, written by Axel Ingelman-Sundberg and Claes Wirsén, describing prenatal development and offering advice on antenatal care.[2] The images were among the first of developing fetuses to reach a wide popular audience. Their reproduction in the April 30, 1965, edition of Life magazine sparked so much interest that the entire print run of eight million copies sold out within four days; they won Nilsson the American National Press Association Picture of the Year award,[3] and reached a sufficiently iconic status to be chosen for launch into space aboard the NASA probes Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. The book and its images have figured in debates about abortion and the beginning of life, and the book is the subject of a substantial body of feminist critique.
