the real answer to anyone asking what language they should learn is

1 - start with C if you want to learn fundamentals or Python if you want to build something quickly. anything else is just 4chan contrarianism
2 - your third language MUST be haskell or ocaml or ML. there's a reason most elite universities force you to learn functional programming early on, even if you never use them again
3 - SQL no excuses
4 - only AFTER the above, if you absolutely must, try Java, but know you are likely going to develop the OOP brain diseases if you stick with it for too long, and stay away from design patterns. if someone is talking about the "factory pattern" kill them. (alternatively you could try Kotlin instead for less brain damage.)
5 - next choose whatever language fits your domain, there are no more requirements. typescript/javascript for frontend, C++/Rust for low level programming, go for backends, or whatever will get you a job. it doesn't matter.

t. 38 year old who wishes he had done the above instead of wasting 20 years on C# and Java shite before learning programming properly.

Fuck off. We made a compiled, statically typed language and called it "C" and we even managed to do it without letting the world know your every secret because you forgot to allocate the length of a string plus one.

Pointers are an antipattern and there's only like 3 languages that have ever bothered to implement them. I'm pretty sure the term "reference" is older than C and was applicable when computers were made of wood.

It's been 50 years of this shit. There have been "alternatives", but you consider any language that lets you create a class too ambitious.

When he says "C" what he means is a basic wrapper around syscalls.

There's a massive project called numpy that's built around the idea that you can use Python for number crunching by just hooking it up to a C FFI. I barely know what C is even doing here, if you want a computer to multiply matrices a billion times a second for you then I'd probably just learn assembly.
But you get the speed without needing to touch the crap.

because you can literally learn html and css in a couple of days and you can learn JS enough in a month
making a basic website is literally the perfect introduction to programming because everyone has used a website and knows what you should be programming to make it competent

and it introduces you to the whole game theory process to programming of equating your logic to the computer's, which is invaluable.

If you use computer code to make something compelling then it stops being something that you're obligated to learn and starts being something you want to learn because it's in service of something you want.
If you take notes about how memory allocation works all day then you're going to get bored and go insane.

If you learn Javascript there's a world of possibilities opened up to you. There's about a dozen different standard APIs that let you do fun things in the web browser like graphics programming.
Unfortunately I can't imagine expecting a beginner programmer to learn WebGL. It's a more friendly version of OpenGL but it's still a nightmare.

You can learn "Pine Script" so you can learn to work the stock charts at the same time that you learn how to code. I can't promise you that you won't make a mistake and go bankrupt because you don't understand how the var keyword works though.
>>
>>222095312
