I'm playing Resident Evil 4 VR in Spanish for ultimate immersion (the game takes place in Spain). It doesn't have a Spanish dub, but that means the dialogue between Leon and his American colleagues is still in English, but the villagers shout at you in Spanish and the notes etc. you find lying around are Spanish as well, so this works pretty nicely.I wish games that take place across cultural boundaries would generally let you select multiple languages to keep things as authentic as possible, instead of having everything in a single language.

I'm sure we're just going through a rough patch and we'll all be speaking another language other than english soon enough.

>>224309087>how abt the ppl that get possed and start talking in lating or dead tongues etcI think most of those stories are BS, and even the ones that are real are probably just due to people passively absorbing a language without realizing it.I learned English by consuming media and didn't know about my newly acquired fluency until I was asked a question in English class.Much more interesting is the question why we can read.Like, how come our brains can string together written symbols and make sense of them as if we were made to do this? It's such as complex task that did not occur at all in our environment until just a few thousand years ago, yet here we are, fluently reading entire texts more quickly than we would be able to speak them, and using the same symbols to program computers.I'm basically an agnostic, but this is one of those things that make theism and creationism more plausible to me.Jewish mysticism holds that the Torah is the literal blueprint of Creation. Every letter in it is like an instruction in a computer program, the world can only exist for as long as someone in it is reading and interpreting the Torah. If writing is the divine tool of creation, it makes sense that those created in the image of God would be endowed with the gift of being able to read and write.

>>224309087It's all crap Even language learning is crap All discussion about it is conjecture at best You just do the hours for years or accept the sunk cost, you never find anything that suddenly will make up the difference exponentially Moving to the TL country and cohabitation with TL speakers is basically the only practically more efficient "method" of getting those hours down faster
>>224309627>Much more interesting is the question why we can read. Like, how come our brains can string together written symbols and make sense of them as if we were made to do this? We're able to do all sorts of complex tasks that did not exist until very recently and have no evolutionary precedent. Our brains run more on generalized adaptive processes than on simple cue-reaction loops. This is also why questions like 'why do humans commit suicide - whats the evolutionary benefit of that?' are stupid since most of our selective pressure is at the broad trait level rather than over very specific pre-programmed behaviors.

Usually after a couple months, after the first real acquisition gains, and then it goes away magically. It's as if your brain tries to make room for the language in your head, it starts defragmenting and moving things around and that causes side-effects. I tell myself I'm imagining it but it's very spooky. Knowledge is never free, it seems.
