Numerals in Hebrew are a new level of retardation
>different cardinal and ordinal forms for masculine and feminine
>the masculine uses normal feminine endings while the feminine uses normal masculine endings
>forms for number one are postpositive while every other number is prepositive
>multiple forms for number two depending on context
>numerals have separate forms when used with a definite article

I am one of those. In most IE gendered languages, there is no gender difference for most cardinal numbers, and the form is the same for definite and indefinite forms. Also there's no confusion of endings from the normal paradigm. So basically, stfu

> Outpoot challenge: Cats edition

Respond to the following prompts to the best of your ability. If you can, try using no external resources at first, leaving blanks or (even better) substituting descriptions or approximations for terms that you don't now. Then you may return to your answers and make better versions where you correct mistakes and substitute missing vocabulary. If you are more advanced, feel free to improvise and expand on the base answers.

> Describe a cat you know or imagine, including its appearance and personality.

> Do you like cats? Why or why not?

> What does a typical cat do during the day?

> Imagine you adopt a cat: what would you name it, and how would you care for it?

> Describe something funny, strange, or surprising that a cat might do.

> If you could talk to cats, what would you ask them?

Tha dà chat aig m'àthair agus mo mhathair. 'S e Bounce agus Cato a tha na h-ainm oirre. Tha a' dhà dubh, ach tha spot geal air Bounce. Tha Bounce doirbh, agus 's e neach-coisiche a th'ann an Cato.

Is toil leam na càit airson a tha iad cute agus amadan, ach chan eil càt agam a-nis.

Bidh na càit a' cadal, ag ithe, agus a' playadh a h-uile latha. Aig uairean, bidh na càit a' lickadh ur privates agus a' coiseachd a muigh, ma tha iad càit a-muigh, ach cha bidh iad a' coiseachd a-muigh ma tha iad càit taighe.

Moran uairean, bidh càt ag iarraidh tu ga pheatadh, ach 'nuair bidh tu air a pheatadh gu cho fhada, bidh e gad biteadh.

Mar urrain dhomh radh ri càit, bidh mi a' freagraich dè a iasg as fheàrr leat.

Aš turiu katė, jis vardą yra "Branquinho". Mano katė spalvos yra tarp baltą ir pilką. Kada jis buvo jauni jis buvo labai agresyvios prieš kitas katiną ir mieliau su žmones. Po mano katė tapo kastruoti jis tapo ramiai, besotis ir laimingas.

Corrected:

Tha dà chat aig m'àthair agus mo mhathair. 'S e Bounce agus Cato a tha na h-ainm oirre. Tha na dhà dubh, ach tha spot geal air Bounce. Tha Bounce teun, agus 's e neach-seachrain a th'ann an Cato.

Is toil leam na cait airson a tha iad stampa agus faoin, ach chan eil cat agam a-nis.

Bidh na cait a' cadal, ag ithe, agus a' cluiche fad an latha. Aig uairibh, bidh na cait a' ilmeach am buill-fheise agus a' coiseachd a-muigh, ma 's cait a-muigh iad; ach cha bhi iad a' coiseachd a-muigh ma 's cait taighe iad.

Gu tric, bidh cat ag iarraidh ort a bhrìodanachadh, ach 'nuair a bhios thu air a bhrìodanachadh tuilleach is fada, bidh e gad teumadh.

Ma 's urrainn dhomh bruidhinn ri cait, bhithinn a' faighneachd dè an t-iasg as ròghnaiche leotha.

As the American school system has gutted humanities, kids are less literate. Since black people are the way they are, even though their schools are typically better funded now, this causes many of them to be outright illiterate even if not from the ghetto or involved in gang culture like the streamer in question.

There’s a series where a dude goes around his high school asking 16-18 year olds to read sentences at like a 12-13 year old’s reading level and them failing.

Well if you want a more specific answer, a lot of kids that are now young adults were never taught to sound out words or made to read extensively, so even some good students simply following the curriculum can end up remarkably inept when it comes to extensive reading and learning new words from context if they never read extensively in their own downtime.

bitch I'm not prepared to read 10,000 pages in English.
But how much will reading help me progress? I was making good progress with reading, but I couldn't understand verbal stuff. My goal is to be able to have verbal conversations more than to be able to read. So should I just only do audio inpooting? Will reading eventually help my verbal listening skills too just by giving me more vocab? I definitely felt like my reading progress was going a lot faster in terms of expanding my vocab, but like I said my goal is verbal conversations. IDGAF about reading.

My bible is something like 2500 pages. The Harry Potter series is something like 4100 pages. So someone reading the Bible once and the whole of Harry Potter twice would reach that page count [or just a bunch of random books]. So yes, (you) could read a lot more than you think you can.

The endless debates about different methods exists to mask the true burden of language learning which is the massive volume needed.

10k pages is like literally probably the entire Classical Latin corpus, after that you mostly have Christian apologetics and boring narratives of the lives of saints until Spinoza, Descartes and More, unless you really like long and boring medieval logical texts like that of William of Ockham
>>
>>225463745
Even taking the low end estimate of 6 million words, divided by 250 words per page, that’s 24,000 pages. Not counting any period after Tacitus.

But also you really underestimate the breadth and depth of the medieval corpus and the renaissance as well. Especially if you like reading historians, poetry, or plays there’s basically an inexhaustible supply of all 3.

This WIP rolltable that the table making latin anon posted in /clg/ should illustrate the point even though it’s contemporary with More. This list of works represents one non-comprehensive online library’s listings of about 200 years of output from humanists in Britain, and its missing lots of works.

I can’t imagine how vast the whole corpus of Europe in this period would be if anyone did the bibliographic work to compile it all. And of course serious academic works were still written in Latin into even the 20th century in some cases.
>>
It’s honestly something of an existential issue for me that there’s mountains of excellent literature that are the collective heritage of Europe that are known to like 13 people and read by maybe 3 specialists (who is gonna bother to actually read a 700 page low quality .pdf scan of the life story of a Milanese duke written in impeccable livian style even if they’re doing research for a history publication, they’re most likely to look at selections, or to just use citations already made by other academics). There’s really a lost continent of European literature, much of which has never been translated.

I will eventually probably read some of them as I aim to develop a daily Latin reading routine (like 10 pages per day or something like that)

I'm curious especially about authors in Late Antiquity, which tend to get overlooked, like Boethius for example
>>
>>225466927
Boethius was fairly famous to later generations. Albert the Great notably translated him into English. But you’re right that even in the supposed nadir of Latin literature there’s a good number of really interesting authors.

You’ve really just gotta go pick through the massive heap of stuff and find what interests you. Patralogia Latina for example is like 221 volumes and it’s just patristic latin and latin academic works on those primary sources, only running up to about 1220. (Not all that interesting to me since I’m more of a historian than any sort of theologian).

This is a 28 volume collection of italian history sources from the 5th-15th century that I believe might contain the specific pdf scan of that history of the Sforza Duke I alluded to.

I can read Latin works kind of and I can speak/write a little bit in it, but I don't feel like I actually know Latin, it's more like I just happen to have the ability to read and understand Latin, rather than knowing it. Do you need to like extensively read for years in order to develop a feeling of knowing it?

Did anyone here learn Russian? How long did it take? How many hours did you study per day?
>>
The cool thing about Japanese is that by the time you're finally good at it you'll hate Japan and everything they produce

You should never directly use references to output. If you learn a new word, only use it the next day.

>[x] is just [h] but more guttural so farther back,
>i believe the french R largely the same concept but with [r]
[x] is velar whereas [h] is glottal, so there's no possible way [x] is further back. I've seen some (retarded) people consider [h] to have no place of articulation, but even then that would not make [x] further back, as there would then be nothing to compare to.
The french r on the other hand is generally slightly further back than [x], and therefore (as you say) also further back than [r]. It may also be trilled (by some speakers in some environments). It is also voiced by most speakers in most environments.
These kinds of anatomically uninformed descriptions may help some, but for myself I remember finding them confusing and misleading.

These comics were comfy as fuck even though they were borderline hetalia-tier cringe
Shame the artist went really Christian and didn’t identify with the series any longer but I also don’t know if she had more stories to tell
