>like anime
>move to japan
>really like it here, it unironically feels like I'm living in an anime since media is just a reflection of culture
>recently picked up 聖地巡礼 as a hobby (I don't know how to say that in English) since everything is literally the same (pic related is a location from an eroge that's near my house)
>weebs online who have never even been to Japan: JAPAN IS NOTHING LIKE ANIME YOU STUPID FUCKING WEEB

I really like it here, but it's hard to interact with Western otaku online anymore. If I say anything about life here I always get attacked for it and called a week and everyone says I don't know what I'm talking about even though I live here. For example I used to like playing in Akiba but then Akiba died and I started saying online (including on this site) that Akiba was dead after everything changed during covid and everyone said I was wrong and retarded, then some YouTuber who doesn't live here made a video saying Akiba is dead and now everyone says Akiba is dead.

Did Western weeb culture change or something during my time here? Everything seems so different and insufferable now when I go on English sites.

I would call it weird but not scary. It's just different, and not in a good way.

idk I guess also people expect to see it to be 100% like anime and any difference refutes it from being like in anime.
People lately interpret things more literally unless I'm misremembering so it might be that.
Akiba being dead can mean many things so it probs got interpreted at being completely dead instead of it no longer being what it was in the past.

On one hand I'm surprised that people here don't say that it's dead since nostalfags are everywhere but idk there's also people tired of memeposts of x being dead here and a bunch of weebs all over the internet that jump at anything negative that is being said about Japan as being wrong.

People also just take whatever first source seems legit to them and that's mainly it. Happens in Touhou where a bunch of pics have bad translations but they get shared around here and people don't check the wiki because they trust that source.

If you're posting on /jp/ you shouldn't misuse the quoting function tho

The haruhi days were the last moments of the authentic Akiba. Then it just slowly became a tourist attraction. It hasn't been the same for much longer than just covid.
>>
It really feels like I'm living in an anime!

*rampant homelessness in all the major cities*
*hordes of imported brown people raping robbing and killing japanese*
*more brown tourists that are noisy and cause a nuisance*

Yeah, sure it does.
>>
>>50044804
Off-topic. Living in Japan is not otaku culture. Post it on /int/.
>>
>>50053062
I think you should just kill yourself instead
>>
>>50044804
>it unironically feels like I'm living in an anime
People mean it's not like 90s and prior anime when they say it's not like anime. It's exactly like soulless, post 2010s anime for normies.
>>
>>50054562
Nah, it definitely feels like Kochikame, Doraemon, or Sazaesan.
>>
>>50044804
Its a mix of contrarianism and envy.
I don't live there but went recently and yeah, its great.

>>50050806
>*rampant homelessness in all the major cities*
You haven't seen homelessness in your life.
