Just finished getting the last CGs for euphoria. I understand the plot is secondary to this kind of game, but I was kind of disappointed by how ambiguously it ended despite the convolutedness. I wish they explained more thoroughly the nature of the game itself rather than just how and why it started. I'm especially bothered by the fact it's never explained whether the real Kanae and Nemu were both in the game with Keisuke or not. The most coherent explanation I came up with is that game Kanae was a simulation, while game Nemu was the real Nemu who altered her personality to match Kanae's. As for Byakuya's ascetic cult thing, I never expected it to go anywhere considering it's mostly irrelevant to the main plot, but then it was just briefly "explained" in 5 lines. The happy ending also felt forced, but I wasn't expecting one to begin with, so I didn't mind it. Outside of that the characters and dialogue are great. I laughed my ass off during all of the kouhai's route and the poop vomit dolls scene.

Doukyuusei 2 being one of the earliest "dating sim" game doesn't follow this unwritten rule. Partial dating sim/RPG/VN deal with it by railroading the player to the location the dev wants them to and not featuring open ended dating mechanic which works because they are RPG/life sim/VN with romance gameplay mechanic added on the top of it. So yeah, there won't be another dating sim with good routes, VNs/RPGs are taking them all.
