Gloriovs Evropean Gensokyo thread. Imagine the evropean version of Gensokyo, mvst be heaven...Totally not a /jpint/ thread.
I shouldn't make threads while drunk on cheap vodka.
>>50062666>666I knew it, European girls are sent by Satan in order to disrupt Gensokyo's natural order!
>>50062793>Alice (Daughter of Satan)>Scarlet Sisters (Vampires)>Clownpiece (Fairy from Hell)>Hecatia(Goddess of Hell)>Patchouli (Witch with a Demon Familiar)>Merry (Becomes Yukari)You might be on to something
I've actually given some thought to a European Gensokyo. I'd imagine it'd probably be in Iceland and would act as a refuge for fae and gods from all over Europe.
>>50062904>Iceland Why Iceland of all places? I'd reckon it'd be further down south than Iceland.
>>50062921Isolated, strong cultural ties to fairy myth even to this day, comfy setting.
>>50062926Interesting, definitely a shift from the Gensokyo set in the relatively temperate Japan. Makes me wonder how life there would look with a yearly mean temperature of 1.8 degrees celsius (compare Japan's 11 degrees), especially if they're a few hundred years in the past, like Gensokyo. There really might be a case for moving to Makai, if that's the case.
Which Touhou character has an incomprehensible british accent?
>>50062966The equivalent human village culture would be really interesting, given that it'd probably be very viking adjacent and as such would probably maintain a more aggressive, warrior-esque culture than Gensokyo's human village. We might even see them as an actual faction, with humans causing incidents themselves.
>>50062926Personality if I had to find a place for a European Gensokyou then it would either be Iceland or Wales. Iceland was already explained by you but Wales already has mythology surrounding other realms (Specifically Fae ones) and a big chunk of cool British folklore and myth come from Wales (Like King Arthur). Plus with Britain being a melting pot of various european cultures (Celts -> Romans -> Anglo Saxon -> Viking -> Normans etc.) it would make Wales the perfect place for all kinds of european gods, monsers and other creatures to gather.
>>50062680>posting on the internet while drunk on cheap vodkaBased and Eastern European drunked.
The 'risa surely has some Euro descent somewhere, what with her weird name and blonde hair
>>50062983That would be really damn cool, actually. You could have the western, germanic deities (Wotan, Thor, Tyr) and the eastern, finnish / baltic ones (Ukko, Perkele, Tursas) come into conflict, along with their respective gothi / shamans (who might become playable characters?). I just really want a qt shaman 'hu that wears a deer skull on her head. For a third faction, you could even throw in the slavic pantheon (Perun, Svarog, Dazhbog), if you want to keep it based and hypothermiapilled. I feel like this version of Gensokyo could lean harder on grimsokyo and get away with it, because it just makes sense. I wouldn't mind seeing some ritual sacrifices or blood being drunk here or there.
>>50063043While her name sounds western it's very notable writen with Kanji, meaning it's to be treated as a Japanese name. She could be blonde thanks to some European genes, or she might just dye her hair as a form of rebellion against her father. Who's to say? She's hardly the only human with a weird hair color, anyway.
>>50062666>YukariGreeks aren't European
>/jpint/ threadHELL YEAH! I'll ride across Eurogensokyo with Byakuren with my Hayabusa! :D
I'm confused, how much is a jpint compared to a normal pint?

This is the thread
>>50062921It's an island just like JapanMaybe Ireland can work too
>>50062666>Imagine the evropean version of Gensokyo
>>50062666White goddess...
>>50063528My Tšingis blood say otherwise. Maybe it's you who aren't European.>>50064012Gensokyo but with even more racism. (Justified.)
>>50062666Ancient Egypt is spiritually European.
>>50064915But now physically which is what really matters

>>50067409Sakuya is a slav
>>50068350One must imagine Sakuya acting like a slav.
>>50068350We've never seen her smoking so we can't confirm this
>>50069125West Slavs (excluding P*lacks) don't smoke.
Teh Merry embodies the F A V S T I A N spirit
>>50067409Elly is based on a French monster (Ankou) and I headcanon Kurumi as some relative of the Scarlets because of the name of her theme.
Would the fairy trio count as European? They have English names. Also what about Medicine.
So what the hell is マエリベリー supposed to translate to, anyway? "My livery"? Why did western fans just decide her name was "Maribel" one day? ZUN was even asked this at a convention and his answer was basically "I dunno lol"
>>50069320Ironically, Renko is the more faustian of the two. Merry is more magian.
>>50069268Hey, don't be mean on Poles, you dingus. They're nice guys and love vodka. Their girls also look good and also like vodka.
Putting my pole in Sakuya (forma de Pole)
>>50069872How the hell did you interpret [maeriberi-] as "my livery"? If you read it correctly it does sound quite close to Maribel. Also Zun uses real names for human characters quite often, so translating it as Maribel makes the most sense. Anyway, boring character, only good for rape.
>>50069777Medicine is probably Amerigan actuallyBefore WW2 America send a lot of "blue-eeyd" dolls as diplomatic gifts for Japan, they were an instant hit among children for their exotic appearance, notice how a lot of blonde Touhou characters have varying eye colors, but Medicine's are constantly blue, it's probably intentional as blue eyes is heavily associated with western dolls in general.Since PoFV ultimately goes back to WW2, during the war it was common for these dolls to be discarded as they were seen as unpatriotic, often without the proper ways you should "bury" a doll in Japanese culture and iirc Medicine's grudge came from being disregarded as a tool, the symbolisms of the Lily-of-the-valley, her color scheme heavily associated with humorism, and the power to manipulate poison further enhance that possibility, while it's not clear when Medicine came to being, it was probably roughly around the time of PoFV (so near the renewal of nature) also note how the violet cherry blossoms at Muenzuka cling on Medicine, they are souls who died without even realizing it (victims of the bombings) perhaps some were children who had a doll just like Medicine was.But that's just my personal reading
>>50070419>How the hell did you interpret [maeriberi-] as "my livery"?マエ: "my" (though it's usually マイ)リベリー: one very similar character away fromリバリー, which actually does mean "livery"Obviously that's not her actual name, but neither is "Maribel" in my opinion>If you read it correctly it does sound quite close to Maribel.I guess, kinda? That's the name it sounds closest to, but it really seems like ZUN just completely made up a name that happens to sound a bit like "Maribel">Also Zun uses real names for human characters quite often, so translating it as Maribel makes the most sense. If it was supposed to be "Maribel" all along then why didn't he write it as マリベル (the actual katakana spelling of "Maribel") and why did he say he didn't know what her name was?>Anyway, boring character, only good for rape. Now here's where you're objectively wrong
>>50070498>マエ: "my" (though it's usually マイ)"my" is マイ not マエ. マエ doesn't even sound close. >リベリー: one very similar character away fromリバリー, which actually does mean "livery"I mean that's true but you don't read it as マエ・リベリー, you read it as a single word, which is why it transforms into Maribel. >If it was supposed to be "Maribel" all along then why didn't he write it as マリベル He probably just heard that name somewhere and didn't bother to check how its actually spelled. >Now here's where you're objectively wrongHow so? There is nothing interesting about her, Renko, or the Hifuu club in general.
It's Merryberry.
European mature greek lady. Now I want to go to Greece to see if they're hot like that.
>>50062666Translate it weebs!
