why haven't the old 2hu games (eosd, pcb, in) been remade or remastered yet?the games would really benefit from upgraded visuals, quality of life updates and support for modern platforms. there's not even a fanmade remaster (only some patches and texture packs)
>>50087016>the games would really benefitNo.
>>50087016you can play them just fine
>>50087016>>50087053The only updates the older games could use are as follows:Add a restart option to EoSD's pause menu.Add Spell Practice to 6, 7, 10, 11, and 12.Add Extra to 19.Add better netplay to 19.Fix 19's balance.Fix 19's story.Fix 19's cast.Make 19 non-canon.
>>50087138replace 19 with 1
>>50087112He says as he proceeds to double click vpatch.exe
>>500873441 is already one of the best games in the series. The only change it'd need, at least for some, is to make the bomb less aggressive on the eyes.
>>50087016Sonic fans: recompile an Xbox 360 game with a complex 3D engine and make it run on PC in 4K 120 frames per secondTouhou fans: can't remaster an old 2D danmaku for Windows 98, only draw hentai and remix songs
>>50087016Just play Fantastic Danmaku Festival if you want remakes of EoSD, PCB and now IN (the third one just released recently)
>>50087016ZUN is a lone indie dev and doesn't have the resources for proper remaster collections
>>50087016>>50087671There is a level of completionism with Touhou games; saying you've beaten PCB on Lunatic, for instance. With that comes the need to play the games "as is" for the achievement to feel genuine. A remaster, being an imperfect copy, would lack such genuineness. I'm not super familiar with speedrunning, but from what I've heard, there is a similar insistence on genuineness: requiring low-level emulation of a title, or even the original hardware for it to be considered a genuine speedrun. There do exist graphics patches for Touhou that replace sprites &c. There's even one that adds a hitbox to EoSD (though that CERTAINLY reduces the genuineness). I personally have experimented with upscaling the resolution, but to little success. Best I got was dgVoodoo2, which didn't play nice with the spritesheets, leaving artifacts all over the screen.>>50087138Nuke every nuhu.
>>50087016ZUN lost the original files for the games iirc. That's also why the games aren't available on steam. Also, while they are my favourite ones, there is really no need to create a remaster of them. If you're that put off by the lack of features you could just add things like visible hitboxes and the ability to practice certain parts without that. And, as others itt have already mentioned, the whole idea of trying to ''remake'' them goes against part of why people are still playing them. If you want to play games that are based on them just play Fantastic Danmaku Festival (they just released the third one based on IN); they're different from the original games and a whole lot easier, but they outdo the origianl ones in terms of visuals (especially the third one).
>>50087016Please kill yourself
>>50087016My only gripe with old Touhou games was that I couldn’t tell where I was supposed to be in some stage. Rumia’s stage is meant to be over a forest but it looks barren and lifeless, Keine’s is visual gibberish (this might be intention because she’s obscuring the Human Village) and I can’t even begin to comprehend what Alice’s stage is supposed to be but it sure as fuck isn’t a forest, at least to me. That said, I also think this is a strength. The lack of clarity gives lots of room for artists and other creatives to come up with different interpretations of what these places look like, and the obscurity of it all adds to the dreamlike haze and atmosphere of the early Windows era. So it’s hardly a complaint.
>>50087713>>50090710is fantastic danmaku festival really that good?
>>50087016ZUN explicitly said on stream that he doesn't want to because that is not "how Touhou work". It wasns't even that long ago, just last month, and he said it in response to people keep asking him to remake EoSDI figure he saw it as annoying pestering much like the people who keep bringing up Mima
>>50092297Visually? Yes, it is exactly what OP is asking for, FDF3 however don't excite me because it goes full OC donut steel with making Kaguya and Eirin ayyyyy lmao with sci-fi design and visor and shit
>>50092451ZUN, for better or worse, never looks back as a game designer. He'll MAYBE put out one or two minor patches, otherwise the game he releases is what's going to exist from now until the sun consumes the earth.
>>50092458>FDF3 however don't excite me because it goes full OC donut steel with making Kaguya and Eirin ayyyyy lmao with sci-fi design and visor and shitI mean, that's been the part and parcel of all the "corrupted" characters in the series. Everyone gets a certain aspect of them highly exaggerated, like how Yukari's fight leans into the eldritch cthulu aspect of her gaps, or how Ran's fight leans into Buddhism. Kaguya/Eirin similarly just lean really into spacefaring.
>>500876712hu is actually the only franchise with more fangames than sonic.
>>50092487Yeah that was pretty clear when he sharted out UDoALG with its myriad of problems only to left it dead in the water after one shitty patch that didnt fix anythingin other words, ZUN is a hack.
>>50094666>in other words, ZUN is a hackwho is the real genius dev? toby fox?
>>50094700UDoaLG was a victim of the Toby curse so no, he's a bigger hack.
>>50094700Given that he coded Undertale at Andr*w H*ssie's unholy basement? Yeah, but still somewhat of a hack because he could convince ZUN to bring back Ran, but couldn't persuade him out of creating Ch*yari.
>>50094723Don't you have children to groom and underpaid artists to exploit, Toby?
>>50094788NTA but there is nothing wrong with either of those things
>>50092297It's alright, the main game is nice on the eyes and has a few cool spellcards but it's nothing special, though the extra stage is really good. The second game kicks this up a notch: kinda boring main game and amazing extra stages.
>>50087671Sonic fans are (arguably) fans of their games while Touhou fans seem to care more about the community. That's the key difference.
>>50095609Anon, come on now.Let's not pretend like the Sonic fanbase isn't fragmented to hell and back between classic, adventure, boost, cartoons, general furry deviants, and more. Touhoufags can at least agree on what a Touhou game looks like.
>>50094788Do you have a SINGLE source for those words
