Mods please don't delete the thread this time, this is directly relating to /jp/'s archive site and could potentially be a massive loss of /jp/'s history if the website really was hacked, which seems to be the case.

Does anyone know what's going on with warosu or is able to get in contact with the owner? Several days ago /ghost/ had an unusual message popup, along with the UI changing. Today the archived threads on it seem to be getting edited by the apparent hackers. /ic/'s /ghost/ board is also completely unusable right now. The scope seems limited purely to /ghost/ right now, but it seems like only a matter of time before they start messing with the main archive.

Techie here, yes there's an exploit with ghost posts, basically it allows anyone to add whatever they want to the page.
But because it's only the web view it can't affect the archived data or anything.

Really all it can be used for is to troll, make the site harder to use or redirect you to some weird website. The thing where every post gets changed to "NIGGER" is just a visual thing, if you turn off JavaScript in your browser you can see the original posts again.

I already emailed the admin but I haven't gotten a response yet.

Good to hear it's hopefully nothing, though I'm surprised it took this long for someone to exploit it.

>>50185231
What? I think seeing this on /jp/'s main archive was at least enough of a reason to a make a thread of concern about it.

this thread doesn't generate lots of traffic so it looks like it has to go. damn the hacker should get his efforts into generating same high traffic for us like he did for warosu

Yeah, it's literally the most basic form of the most common type of web vulnerability and it's just been sitting there for over a decade

Thank you very much anon. I'm currently going through all the archive from 2016 so it's good that this isn't messing anything up. Your advice is useful!

Not like warosu is a high-profile target, the average 4chan user today doesn't even know about 4plebs

That's a relief.

This, I realized archiving and preserving things is not worth the hassle, we'll all be dead anyway
