Because it's literally Touhou's sister series that ZUN work on and therefore /jp/ related.
>>
Why would they name it Seihou if the concept of "robot that looks like a cute young woman dressed as a french maid fights giant space ships" is the most absurdly Japanese concept you could possibly pitch?
>>

I sure love Seihou, a JAPANESE DOUJIN SERIES from the Amusement Makers group in which ZUN was part of, made intentionally as a sister franchise to ZUN's in which ZUN actively worked in for the first two games.

What was the april fools game for this year like? I missed it. Any way to play them?
>>
Banshiryuu is the only one that doesn't have a translation in either patch nor wiki, right? I guess I'll have to nihongo jouzu...

Clueless idiot mod.
>>
>>50188488
I stand corrected.
Why would they delete it anyway? This board is supposed to be for "Touhou Project, Vocaloid, doujin works and music, and diverse niche Japanese interests."
But when you post some actual niche Japanese stuff you get deleted, but the countless irrelevant /v/ threads(and other irrelevant threads) don't.
>>
>>50185623
Because although the concept is definitely japanese, the setting and (most of) the characters are western.
>>
>>50188612
I remember reading somewhere that the reason why the name was chosen was because it was supposed to be the "opposite" of Touhou.
For example, where Touhou is traditional in aesthetic, Seihou is (at least to some extend) futuristic.
>>
>>50188743
Yeah, I remember reading that too.
https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Seihou_Project#Relation_to_the_Touhou_Project
>>
>>50185623
Could be a japanese take on what western media and aesthetics looked like throught their lenses, well at the time of Seihou's creation at least I guess
I'm not knowledgeable enough on the eastern mindset to give a good reply sadly
>>
Seihou proves that Touhou only made it because of the EoSD cast.
>>
>>50189682
I feel like the only reason Seihou didn't "make it" is just because the dude stopped making them.
>>
>>50188558
Either the OP did a nono and got banned or they wanted one more 3DPD thread.
>>
>>50189813
There was a big gap between Kioh Gyouko and Banshiryuu too. ZUN was releasing a new Touhou every year since EoSD.
>>
>>50189682
Beyond wrong
>>
>>50189682
Touhou made it because ZUN knew how to ride the hype from PCB by making new games. Seihou could've made it if it didn't have a big year gap between the second and third games

Seihou was just riffing on a popular theme on the time. You have to remember that ToHeart came out back in 97 and the breakout character from that, HMX-12/Multi, is literally a robot maid girl. (That game also had a half American girl named Lemmy who randomly spoke English sometimes so there's your western connection.)

Illusionary Girl from Canaveral
Specifically this "version" which is what happens if the midi is played on PC thus missing instruments
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YaA6FJeulA
It's just so nostalgic-sounding and sweet, and having it play on such a strange stage (up to that point), facing a weird midboss, and the boss having a plot surprise makes it so much nicer.
Also it's the first theme I heard after the title, because the game I downloaded was already pre-set on "Replay" mode for Stage 5 for some reason. Compared to Touhou "Replay" is instead "Stage Practice" but with the replay automatically saved at the end (one of the video commenters had the same issue). The version of Shuusou Gyoku I uploaded last thread is the same one, so you might face the same issue after unzipping.
>>
>>50201658
I'm a basic bitch so I go with Girl's Divinity Pandora's Box because it's a ZUN theme that is very unique from his other works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YaA6FJeulA
>>
>>50201658
I have only played the first game, so I can't judge for the others, but my favorite theme is probably "mechanical circus" it just fits with the fight so well.
Plus it sounds really good on my hardware.

I don't think ZUN has any other theme that has sounds simulating a church organ.
>>
wtf was her problem?
>>
>>50208187
Aside from that one the only thing that comes close would be Magical Girl's Crusade.
Cute Devil - Innocence has an organ intro that's pretty similar and maybe even inspired the intro for Girl's Divinity but that's a pc98 organ.

iirc he hasn't used any church organ in any of his game songs.

Vampire/God/Devil(?) I think it was left ambiguous of purpose
I was surprised to learn from the game's dialogue that she looks like a child, she looked like a young adult to me and most fannart I've seen also depicts her looking older
>>

>>50258044
Yes, they’re almost completely different games. Somewhere on the internet you’ll find people saying the first version is superior. That’s a big lie. C67 is just an ordinary doujin shmup with stingy resources. C74 is a great and criminally overlooked game. It has a ton of bold innovative mechanics that I’ve never seen other shmups replicate.
Be careful though, it’s extremely difficult at the start. Even on easy it’s a beast to learn. But once you get past the skill floor, it’s very rewarding and brilliantly designed. You have to play by its own weird rules. I started up hating it, but later became one of my favorite games. Better than most official Touhou games honestly.
>>
>>50189682
Seihou didn’t make it because the first 2 games are honestly kinda trash. Seihou 1 is very rough. 2 is fun to play but also unfinished with very little content. 3 had two versions, one of which is mediocre and the second is great but also the antithesis of beginner friendly. Compare it to EOSD, PCB and IN at the time and there’s no contest.
>>
>>50263547
I think Seihou 1 plays almost identically to Mystic Square which is okay. Then again, if EoSD played like Mystic Square, Touhou wouldn't have been as popular so that's a fair point.
>>
>>50263520
Not much of a change in story then? I'll try out C74 first.
>>
>>50254793
Not sure if it has any code but gameplay wise... it's closer to UDoALC(?, well kinda).
-Grazing is the main way to get gauge and also sends bullets to your enemy
-You have a shield that gets drained when hit (with no invincibility).
-When the shield breaks you get a bit of invincibility but just have one hit, after a while the shield regenerates again.
-It's pretty wonky since sending stuff can give graze and so on... sometimes enemies just die in less than 20 seconds
-Destroying enemies doesn't delete bullets, they make more bullets on death so you can farm graze.
-Revenge bullets can get annoying when fighting a boss and such.
>Does it also have an impossible final stage boss?
afaik Muse doesn't force her way to at least take 1 life of a little girl like Lunatic Yumemi.
I at least remember beating her without her beating me. But idk maybe I lost to Morgan since I tend to not notice her exAttack

>>50263520
I think people say that C67 is better because most people play it thinking of it being Touhou instead of in STG terms so people think it being more similar to Touhou=good
I still remember trying the C67 version(I think) and it being very tough, but maybe I'll have to give the newer version a try, it's been many years since then.

>>50264020
Revival bomb sucks and the rank feels pretty extreme, might be remembering wrong but the balancing was all over the place with the same boss having some underwhelming attacks and others that where too much.
Also maybe it's a personal bias but it looks pretty meh, idk maybe in a crt it actually looks better but the sprites of the bullets are a bit jarring sometimes....
That's from memory tho maybe it wasn't that bad. Music is pretty dam good though.
>>
Remembering how Marisa in Seihou is seemingly no longer human as she sports a pair of angelic wings.
>>
>>50268922
Marisa has wings in PoDD too so that's not much of a big deal. Reimu on the other hand (heh...) has TWO gohei and is much cockier than her PC-98 dialogue even.
>>
>>50267720
>the rank feels pretty extreme
Jesus this
Fuck extra Marisa
>>
>>50271318
It's also the same Reimu that uses the gohei as a stand like a ninja. Imagine if Reimu had two gohei both of them as long as the FW logo. She was holding back in the extra stage, and that's taking into account that Seihou 1's extra stage has Lunatic LoLK-tier difficulty, with extreme rank, and no deathbombs.
>>
>>50273029
>and no deathbombs
Even worse, it's got lifebombs, which punish players who deathbomb as a reflex.
>>
>>50268922
>no longer human
Did you forget about her being part magic?
>>
Is Malice Eater a completely separate game or it also somehow fits into the whole Amusement Makers/almost Touhou lore?
>>
>>50275335
Its extra stage bosses are more-or-less a boss rush from other AM games specifically Hi-Beion, C23, and Yumemi (featuring Chiyuri for one spellcard)
not sure about anything else. there's very little information about it out there compared to some of these

God damn, you were not kidding. I guess people like the C67 because it plays and looks far more like Touhou but it's also rather easy and seemingly still tries to tie itself with its "anti-Touhou" initial style. It also is overall unfinished. But C74 feels like the far more confident balls to the wall version of the game. Very unique gameplay-wise and the soundtrack is even better than C67's.
I think that had the C74 version been released first, it would've been far more of a hit.

Shuusou Gyoku: Marie.
It used to be Erich, but his fight is mind numbingly easy and the music is the only thing carrying it).
Kioh Gyoku: either Muse or Morgan, story mode ONLY.
The former is actually a challenge in a game where the CPU player always dies under 2 minutes, while the latter's EX attack is hard to notice and boss attacks are dense (but can be shot away ofc) so it's also a challenge. Story mode only because VS mode has no difficulty and is garbage.

Interesting thing I read is that Mima was meant to appear in Kyoh Gyoku but ended up being cut. That would've made her last appearance date back to 2001. I wonder how she would've looked like with ZUN's EoSD art style.
>>
>>50352030
That ZUN 2001 Mima drawing also seems to likely exist somewhere within ZUN's files given that there was no reason given for her to be cut and ZUN talks about her and Yuuka being added to the game in his blog.

i do not enjoy this lego loving, sister-con, shota-con, chuuni CEO. his fight is so much harder than the stage 4 boss, and that fight is already extremely difficult

Fighting Hirano is like IN Reimu but with a lot more bullshit on screen

It was the Portrait of Exotic Girls era for ZUN when he wanted to make Touhou far more esoteric and mystic.

She already had wings in PoDD just for the boss.
Her wings also just appear when the battle starts and disappear afterwards.
So it's probably just a way magicians/devils power up like Mai and Shinki.
>>50399090
Nah, I meant the boss bullets. And get as in get how to dodge them. But iirc >>50392807 yeah. I still have to see if I get to play Banshiryuu again and if I don't get my ass kicked that badly.

But there are so many forgotten local western spirits (elves, old pagan gods etc.) and folk magical practices, an actually western touhou would be nice
>>
>>50463302
I remember this topic coming up in a thread a few months back (maybe one of the esotericism ones?) and there were people pitching the idea of such a series taking place deep in the (relative) wilderness of Wales

It does seem like Marisa's state as a human was less clear until EoSD. Now ZUN is playing again with her tittering on the edge of being a magician youkai.
>>
>>50464261
She does get called a human in PoDD tho. But maybe ZUN thought of her as non-human in SoEW

>She does get called a human in PoDD tho.

>An absolutely unrivaled magician who idolizes Mima as "Lady Mima". Aside from being unrivaled, she is a normal human being. She's just a very ordinary girl who can use a little ridiculous and powerful magic. She's a magician, so she's basically quite intelligent. However, she's not someone who would take a jaded view of the world or, with a cry of "Lowly humans!!", explode a cobalt bomb.
Was ZUN feeling okay? Was he trying to tell us something about one of the other cast members up to this point?
>>
>>50463412
Sprites are the closest thing to fairies too. I would've had Seihou do a mix of forgotten Western mythology and 1900s pulp fiction (Barsoom for example)

I mean, her LLS and MS profiles are pretty similar. She's just ordinary but got hold of great magic.
Oh, the cobalt bomb thing... Yeah, maybe it is there to not make people worry about her ending and such or >>50474624 I guess.
>Was he trying to tell us something about one of the other cast members up to this point?
You mean Yumemi? If anything his own feelings maybe a reference to a character but Marisa is pretty chaotic too.
>>50471739
Her extra attacks feels like BS, but she isn't that hard.... It's just that everyone in that game except Morgan and Muse die in a few seconds
>>
>>50474714
>she isn't that hard
It might be that I usually play on Normal and Kioh Gyoku has no difficulty settings, but I rarely last more than a couple minutes against her boss attacks, and every time I die I look at her shield % and I've never seen it lower than 75. Even Eiki feels easy to me in comparison.
>>
By the way, Kioh Gyoku runs at a slowed down 40fps on win10, and the only way I've found to get it to run at full speed was by using the dgVoodoo wrapper (you just copy a couple dll files into the game folder and run it as usual).
I wonder how many have just played it slowed down.
>>
>>50475056
I was running it at 20FPS but I'll try this to fix it. Super jank game.
>>
>>50477135
Good, just keep in mind that with the default settings you're supposed to get a watermark on the bottom right, which tells you the wrapper managed to intercept the direct3d calls of the game and is working properly.
You can remove it by copying the conf file from the main folder, looking for "watermark" with ctrl-f and changing its value to false.

you have to dodge right-left, like wheel of hell. the opening is on the left side i believe
>>
>>50474958
I tried and idk I remembered this easier honestly. There are many factors in that game like taking into account bullets even after hit that are tricky.
Muse seems to have a cpu that is built different than the rest of the story mode and you have to combo lvl2 or 3 attacks and/or send bosses or she will kinda stay at high shield.
The only problem of sending a lot of shit is they also send stuff to you, but you can shoot your attacks from the edges of the screen to misdirect incoming blue bullets.
Gates also kills bosses very quick with the charge attack if you time it right to shoot right after she teleports/appears.
Also abuse the 0 shield recovery since it gives you a free screen clean. Avoid gracing as much as possible when on 0 shield.
Maybe you already know most of the stuff I'm saying tho (^^;

I tried a few times and beat her with Erich, who's homing attacks screw cpu it seems. I will keep trying probs this weekend, maybe I should actually read how you were supposed to play the game tho. There are probably some attacks that work well on Muse and other's she simply ignores depending on the character.

>>50483603
Don't worry it only gets better afterwards :)
>>50489907
Huh, can't believe this works.
In any case to dodge this I usually go zigzag to the opening on the right, but I get to around >>50483603 's height since then you have more space to dodge by just moving horizontally.
If it shoots a second beam since the boss is lower you zigzag at the bottom. But picking the extra life can be tricky afterwards depending on what enemies are there so take into account that you might have to stream slowly to where the life is gonna fall.
>>
>>50483603
Just wait until you see Reimu
>>
Default starting lives are 3, correct?
Goddamn it, Hard difficulty is genuinely ball-busting. It's very easy to level up rank so if you die you're quickly back in the shit again.

Once again, lack of deathbomb is a warcrime. So many bullshit deaths lost to:
- the random-firing diving attack by Mei or Mai
- the extremely fast reflective lasers by Gates
- most of Marie's attacks
- any of Erich's because he fires too much shit your rank gets to max quick and everything becomes too hectic
>>
>>50494036
Yeah, the default starting lives are 3.
I could live with the lack of deathbombing if at least the game didn't actively punish you for trying to deathbomb, by making you both die and waste a bomb.
>>
>>50490963
>and you have to combo lvl2 or 3 attacks and/or send bosses or she will kinda stay at high shield
Yeah, my entire gameplan revolves around sending bosses as often as possible.
I've only been trying with VIVIT so far. I wanted to get a clear with her because I was curious about her ending the most, but I guess I'll have to give up and try to beat Muse with Gates or Erich first.
>>
>>50494036
>>50494511
Revival bomb is the warcrime that probably makes most people drop Seihou... Or maybe it being harder what scares people away
But yeah rank is absurd so macrododging as much as possible is the way to go.... Sadly there's a ton of things in the bosses you can't macro

>>50496507
>Yeah, my entire gameplan revolves around sending bosses as often as possible.
It's mostly just spamming lvl2 with most characters what works for me.
With Vivit sending 3 or more lvl2's in a chain seems to be the best. I just spammed that against Muse but it still took some time.
CPU usually takes it's sweet time to kill bosses so leaving them is usually good but I fear they don't care about Vivit's attacks except the lazers maybe.
Maybe bosses and lvl3s are also useful at higher level though.

A tip for Vivit is to hold back to shoot all three stars with minimum spread to hit bosses 3 times. They can go down surprisingly quickly.
Her lvl2 is what hits the most especially after leveling up, but Vivit might not be that good against CPU.

> I was curious about her ending the most,
Sorry to break it to you, but there are no endings... All you can do is unlock 3 characters.
All the story is in the manual outside the game iirc
>>
>>50498804
>With Vivit sending 3 or more lvl2's in a chain seems to be the best
I see, I guess the usual boss rush strat doesn't work past stage 4. I did notice Muse not giving much of a fuck about loli Vivit, but I thought that meant lv2 and lv3 attacks would be useless too. Guess I was wrong there.
>shoot all three stars with minimum spread
It's pretty hard to get close to Muse's boss, but I'll try.
Thanks for the tips.
>>
>>50499739
You don't have to get close, Vivit's charge attack changes depending on what direction you're pressing at the time of shooting:
-up = more spread
-down = less spread
-left-right = attack moves left or right
My problem is that sometimes I'm also dodging to the side and I can't aim the shot properly but if you're bellow the boss and press just down while shooting all three stars can hit even if you're at the bottom of the screen.
It's just some funky quirk of the game like half charging your shot.
>>
>>50501819
wow, was this written on the manual website? I really need to go read it either way.
>>
>>50501843
>下を押しながら放つと「密集方」になり、上を押しながら放つと「広範囲型」になります。
"Pressing down it becomes like a phalanx, pressing up it becomes wide type"
Yeah, but honestly I didn't check the manual until you mentioned it since I prefer just to mess around and find out. And my nip is also pretty low level so I struggle reading...

But yeah Milia, Gates and Mari have that.
Although I'm not sure if the really close flamethrower of Gates really does more damage so I think not pressing anything is better than pressing forward.
Milia even changes with shift a bit but I'm not sure how much one would actually shoot to the back or side honestly.
>>
>>50185611
>>
Homing must be the easiest shot type because I don't remember how I 1CC'd this game now that I'm replaying with the wide shot. Gates is harder than Mari.
