As it is common knowledge, Touhou takes a lot of inspiration from many different mythologies, tales, and especially religion. For a game series with all of these elements, it's shocking to see how little people actually have a faith or are inspired to learn more.So I pose the question:>are you religious, and if so, did touhou have anything to do with it?
>>50212342To me, all the religions and gods portrayed in Touhou are just fun things to learn about and research. You can spend a couple hours going into the background of the youkai or god that a character is based on, it's on the same level as roman or greek mythology to me, and it has no actual effect on my faith. I'm Christian.I don't think many people on jaypee are religious, but a lot might be curious about Shinto or Buddhism.
>>50212342i have always been religious since i was raised on christianity, but despite this, i still like to believe that mythical creatures and other spiritual beings from other religions and cultures exists somehow, and i dont mean that i believe that they are exclusively heretical demons and the like, though some may be
>>50212342I belive in NA buddhism.
>>50212342I do not care for a religion
I've quite recently lost most of my religious faith (raised Catholic, leaned Protestant) but I still like to believe there is a god and some form of spirituality/afterlife.I like to imagine the media and things we create and do as humans lead to creations of our own paradise. That being said, Touhou has made me wish to learn more in life and to devote myself to a goal.

>>50212342Not to speak for everyone here but I’d assume as English speakers the majority of us wouldn’t have the capacity to meaningfully participate in the faith systems portrayed within Touhou such as Shintoism, Buddhism and Taoism etc. it’s generally a novel part of what makes Touhou interesting as far as I’m concerned and yeah I suppose it did teach me a bit in that respect. But I won’t hitting up a shrine anytime soon.
>>50212342I believe in Buddhism and any Shinto/Regional dieties that were incorporated into Buddhism back when the two religions coexisted as one.
>>50212342Christian Orthodox. And not really, i do like to amuse myself with eh thought of how my attempts at convetring my waifu would go
It's a worrying source of confusion and tension for me - my grandparents imparted distinctly Christian beliefs into me, and here I am, a big fan of the scheming Kanako... I love her, but it's not hard - at all - to cast her as the 'demon calling itself divine' the Bible rails so hard against. Those strange threads that pop up from time to time - I call them /jpx/ - don't help either... The thought that she might exist is both warming and worrying.
>>50218823Which thread ? I want to take a look at it since it sounds interesting
>>50212342I'm an atheist, I really don't care much about religion, but touhou was one of the things that made me fascinated with researching shinto, beyond my general love for japan.it's a religion with a simple premise, but there are so many gods, rituals, events, and changes that happened over time that it's hard to remember everything, it's fascinating. The values are much simpler, being very vague on many issues compared to abrahamic religions, but it worked very well from what we can see.
