Actually, from what I've seen, Geneon/NBCUni was the one with bad or cheap PVs in general. PVs by other studios are noticeably better but still often cheap looking.

The question is why labels did not do more to promote anison artists, especially beyond otaku. Yes, the stigma existed, but even before recent times it wasn't unheard of for anison to cross over to the mainstream, so it could be done.

I wouldn't have minded utaite doing anison if it was just a few songs a season, just like in the old days. However, nowadays it feels like at least half of the songs done in a season are by utaite. If it's not utaite, it's a mainstream act or even a VTuber. Seiyuu singing songs are a dying breed, character songs are dying out, and even dedicated anison singers are getting less and less work. You can see why many anison fans believe that things are grim these days.
