What’s the difference between a light novel and an actual novel?
the same difference between a nobel prize, and a product you buy on an airport
It is just a label to say "if you like anime and manga you might like this too" and most of them are aimed are under 18 with simple prose but you can also find imprints aimed at those from 18 to 25 and the prose used to more varied back in the 00s but it's all just simple slop now.
I would read a light novel if it were solely about a group of girls talking about their tits.
>>50251591A light novel weighs less than 300 grams, a normal more.
Light novels aren't considered literature just like manga isn't considered literature. Like manga, they also feature a lot of dialogue, mainly to make up for the abysmal prose of the average light/web novel writer.

>>50251591where's the general? It's been days without one....
>>50251591from these responses i can tell /jp/ is basically reddit nowat this point not even kadokawa makes a distinction between the two because both are published in smol bunko format and have illustrations now, basically every publisher has just what redditors would call LNs in both their bunko and ranobe labels as well

>>50251591Basically if it published in a light novel publishing label (ie Dengeki Bunko, Gagaga Bunko, Fantasia, etc.) it's a light novel. Otherwise, it's "novel" (well maybe, sometimes you have stuff moving from LN label to a general literature label and became "novel", like Gosick or Haruhi)
