I think I understand why people are disappointed by the MikuExpo winner: quality of the song aside, the song contest winner is basically the 2nd "headliner" of the event next to the theme song, it dictates the vibe the event is aiming for, and this song does not give off a vibe that people can be excited for. Magical Cute Love Shot perfectly understood this, making a Miku Concert feel like an extension of a denpa idol otaku event, you can imagine someone getting themselves excited for the event learning all the little call and responses and having fun waving their light stick around to it. This song has nothing like that, it's a slower paced, low energy standard pop song that would be filler in a DJ set while they queue up something else. It's hard to really get excited for a song like this as one of the only songs you can GUARANTEE will be at the concert, it can only be something you nod your head at and go "yep, that was a song at an event." In general, I feel like Crypton doesn't understand who in the US is going to these events, I feel like last year had a similar energy problem where some of the bigger city venues just couldn't get hyped for the pretty overall meh setlists they put together for the event. Just when MikuExpo Asia was starting to get people excited for next year's show, I feel like a lot of the excitement got deflated by the sign that this next one will probably have a lot of the same issues as last year.
