This thread is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels.

What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? What have you finished?

Now that the dust has settled, are the appends in the Sakuuta remaster worth reading or are they just filled with nothing but mediocre h-scenes?
>>

I am reading Sleepless. The game is more extreme than I prefer but it’s interesting enough to keep going.

Why does he need to "justify that plotwise" for an append scenario that's probably just H?

its quite disrespectful, who is he to wield the power of randomly giving dicks to someone you probably love? seeing yuumi with a dick has left me very disturbed

To my knowledge, there is no waiting for events in YU-NO, time never progresses until you do an action which causes time to progress.
The issue is that the main game world is large and empty, and the things you need to do are often obscure and unintuitive. And because the game has a fairly intricate flowchart, finding one thing that progresses the game isn't good enough; you have to find EVERY thing that progresses the game so you can fill the whole chart.
Taking notes would probably be a good idea, even if you're playing with a guide. Because the game is primarily a mystery and all the pieces are split across different routes, it might help you follow along with the story more easily.
My best spoiler-free advice is to try everything. Even choices that seem meaningless at first might lead to different outcomes.

It's not for the easily frustrated; it reminds me a lot of the Get Lost flash game that always got posted to /f/ if you're familiar with that.
I'd still recommend any fence-sitters to give it a try. It'll never be a total wash because even if you end up bouncing off of it, you'll have gotten to experience that gorgeous music and art first-hand.
>>
>>50497192
if this is the most shocking thing in motonaga writing for you why even bother
>>
My 2026 goal is to stop looking at new games and finish everything on my desktop that isnt a nukige.

I read the trial and it was pretty fun. Not started the main game yet, but I assume it's just some angry NTRfags since it's the first time Anim teamMM have done something non-NTR adjacent iirc.

>>50497811
The only super annoying parts of YU-NO were the handful of pixel hunt-y moments, but the game isn't anywhere the worst I've played in that regard.

>>50498521
honestly, yu-no is very reasonable and solvable without a guide, especially when you compare it to other point and click adventure games. people complain about getting 'soft-locked' and having to restart, but the game seems designed for the player to get stuck and replay it multiple times, and it really doesn't take a lot of time to do a playthrough. the game is designed to be a labyrinth where you have to explore and learn new information through the routes in order to get out of it.

It's kinda weird, right? Why not just make a sub-brand, like mother & wife?

Should I buy a VR headset to play VNs in I think it will be extra immerisve

did they use AI in sakutoki? I don't mean in a "le soulless artstyle" way, but like, actual AI for the paintings? saw someone mentioning it before and now I can't unsee it kek
>>
All the years of discussion has convinced me to not read any works written by SCA-JI and put him into my blacklist forever.
>>
>>50499168
Unsee what? What's supposed to be AI here? It looks fine. If they actually did then they'd have given a painting for Naoya's painting battle with Misuzu and Kana. Speaking of which, I really wish they had one for the latter.
>>
>>50499253
Sca-ji is an author who can write the worst dogshit you've ever read (LGI, Olympia), then follow it up with peak fiction (Jabberwocky, The Happy Prince ). The problem is he ping-pongs between the two wildly, often back to back in the same damn game.
>>
>>50499168
no retard generative ai was not advanced enough when the art was finalised. and even if it was, scaji's mind does not operate like a westoids. he would own it and be proud of it
>>
>>50499261
>What's supposed to be AI here? It looks fine.
Is "AI art" an art that doesn't look fine? Friendly reminded that art in the abstract style that could easily make it into a sakurano game(and no one would ever know) won some art competition year before sakurano was made.
>>
>>50497982
I'm not a VN elitist who cares who the writer is. I just enjoy romance stories in VNs and expect them to not include things that worsen or ruin that romance.
>>
>>50499342
>worsen or ruin that romance.
whats wrong with it i dont get it
>>
>>50499368
Stolen first kiss, but really the worst thing is that it feels like the agency you have in guiding the story solely towards a certian heroine is taken out of your hands and youre cucked drectly by the developers.
>>
>>50499374
You never have any agency to begin with. Everything was written before you even open the game. Your freedom is granted by the writer (i.e. the god of the game's world). Become a creator yourself if you want to have true agency.
>>
>>50499415
I'm not japanese so any vn I create will be absolute dogshit unfortunately.
>>
>>50499422
Don't be so hard on yourself. There is some good art that came out of Japonisme. You can also move to Japan and learn about the culture as much as you can. An imitation doen't have to be inferior to the original.
>>
>>50499262

I mean it kinda sucks but it's also only like 5-10 hours depending on reading speed. Taking 2 years seems like it's dragging the route out unnecessarily.
>>
>>50499460
I read slowly. Makoto's route took me like 20-25 hours to read through and I did that over a month. But the bigger issue is that I feel like KMS every time I read that since it's a huge bore

What's so bad about LGI?
>>
There used to be a time where I read a VN from beginning to end nonstop, now I always have a second window open tkaing half my attention, are VNs becoming boring or is something wrong with me?
>>
>>50499862
Same here. Every time I sit down to read a VN an exhentai window will forcefully open itself and force me to furiously fap to loli ryona for hours. We need to find the culprits.

I noticed a considerable improvement in the depiction of artworks in sakutoki compared to sakuuta. But I always thought it was just scaji getting better at drawing, or hiring someone kek
>>
Why are you all obsessed with this sca-ji retard? Celebrity worship is pathetic
>>
>>50499918
he is the only one writing kamige
>>
does anyone else start thinking of a heroine when having actual sex? I cannot keep an erection when fucking my gf if I don't start thinking of rin like in here>>50499460
>>
>>50499950
Tell that to your doctor, in those exact words.
>>
>>50499950
I've never had sex, why do you think I play VNs?
>>
The act of reading in itself can bring me something close to sexual pleasure if what I'm reading is interesting. The reason I like chuunige is because to me, the stimulation from a good chuunige is actually better than sex. There is always something going on and that something is usually meant to shake up the emotions or engage the intellect. Since, for me, reading something like this really does give me so much pleasure, I can honestly say that concerns about length don't bother me at all, lol.
>>
>>50499422
As I've grown up, I realized that the top shelf American and European games are far better written than any Japanese anime games and visual novels with more mature and artistically inclined sensibilities.

I have carefully curated the "finest" recommendations from the weeb community.
I played and read Rance, Black Souls, Cell of Empireo, Seraphic Blue, Subahibi, Cross Channel, Higurashi, Umineko, Sakura no Uta, Musicus, Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy, Muramasa, Xenogears, Nier, Metal Gear, Fire Emblem, Mother, F/SN, and it's all over the top slop for stunted manchildren. Nothing you can take seriously as a veteran art enthusiast. Tolerable Japanese games exist, but they have always always been far inferior to American and British games. Phil Fish was right.
>>
Who's raiding us now?
>>
>>50500226
Then what the fuck are you doing in /jp/ go back to /lit/ for American and British fellation
>>
why isn't there a jap lit general in /jp/ btw? I tried to do one in /lit/ and it died faster than a fart in the wind
>>
>>50500436
Because this place is filled with Touhou , Vtuber and gacha fandom which are not interested in literature
>>
>>50499950
I can't stop thinking about anon's gf while jerking off to eroge. Can't believe I've fallen for 3DPD after all these years. It's over...
>>
How come there are so many kamige VNs, but hardly and LNs worth reading?
>>
>>50500517
Because ln authors can create throwaway stories easily , there are many throwaway isekai premises like the hot spring one.

If they had to turn something like this into eroge then they would quit since ost , art and va are very expensive
>>
>>50500517
Japanese aren't very good at writing LN/WNs, that's all Korean and Chinese territory, japs can't help but have a pathetic weak japanese protagonist in every LN
>>
>>50500453
where to discuss japanese literature then?
>>
>>50500678
r/JapaneseLiterature , discord,tumblr, Goodreads.
You won’t find much discussion on 4chan for jp literature
>>
>>50500678
Not on the internet. Go join a literature club or make some friends who like reading books. There's so many bad faith and frankly retarded people using the internet nowadays that the very idea of discussing serious things like literature here is ridiculous.
>>
>>50500678
sadly enough the tmw discord is the only place on the internet where you can find like the dozen or two people who read japanese literature in japanese but discuss it in english
5ch is probably ok, personally i only read the audible thread there because i like audiobooks
>>
>>50500226
My skin tone is too white to play american games at this point
>>
>>50499507
It's funny how the Sakuuta remaster uses the same background characters as Sakutoki. Those guys just don't age and stay at school forever.
>>
>>50500517
the barrier to entry is too low so the endless amateur narou syosetus take up all the oxygen in the room
>>
>>50499905
Just make the VNs you sit down to play loli ryona visual novels
