Tried to do a Seihou Yuuka, mostly because I think her wings are neat, and red eyes/long hair is great. Maybe i'll cook up another Saki but the two I did both are kinda flawed because I can't into guns and forgot to fix through gun enhancer or other LoRAs.

The sticker-ish appearance is somewhat deliberate since I usually focus a lot more on the foreground and want to draw the eye (it also makes it far easier to make more complex images). Changing the colour of the outline can help with blending into other backgrounds but never looks as good as it does on snow

Okay I got a little busy with some other stuff but I managed to gather a top 10, who'd have known picking from an actual full year's worth of gens would be much harder than picking from just 3 months? I didn't really want to be the first to go but to hell with it I guess, hope you guys follow up because I'm really curious about everyone's picks. In chronological order:

Some anon posted a really cool Evil Eye necklace in a thread and I immediately got to work replicating it, I thought it'd go well with a fancy dress during a date but I couldn't come up with a good excuse to make Rika actually GO on a date until I thought of the dialogue. I also ended up genning a lot of follow-up images to this which, uhh, definitely played a part in me picking it.

Delicious Gu... she's in my top 3 so this was bound to land high, I remember this one fondly because the 'Gu fever that took over the thread at the time was pretty funny. I also like how her outfit ended up for two particular reasons... yes those too, but I mean the earrings. Dialogue-wise I thought Sagume abusing her ability would be cute, I can picture her doing something like that once in a while. This is another gen where the follow-up definitely played a part in me picking it.

It's an OC! I just really like how she turned out, on top of still really liking how my artstyle looked at the time. I've "recently" genned Flower Tank-chan as well but I still prefer Shrine-chan, it's a shame that I likely won't be genning either of them anytime soon because of how much of a pain it'd be to keep consistency in their outfits...

I did like how the cross-reactions turned out though, everyone else had something cool going on with their lists so I had to come up with something too. My 10th pick would've been Parsee, by the way.

Getting to what I like to call the fun gens now, I LOVE this one, it took me several days to actually get done but I had a blast working on it, I remember finishing it early and really looking forward to using it for Halloween's OP, I love parody gens like this.

Speaking of parody gens! I actually don't have much to say about this one because it's just the exact same reason as the one above. I use Gemini quite a lot for this one though so it was nice experimenting with it as a tool. Also first Tenkai in this list.

And here's the second Tenkai! I think it's obvious why I picked this one, again I had a lot of fun as I do in most comics, I thought the disposable camera gag was pretty funny, but what really made it for me was the secret message and the follow-up, I'm a sucker for funny/cute gens like this.

Closing things out with something very recent, I think this one is really funny because it ended up looking like some sort of Absurdist artpiece. When it comes to actually working on the image this was my first time really trying to gen something purely with img2img without a t2i basis and I found it really interesting. There's also the memories attached to the image itself, of course.

This post is long enough as is so I won't bore you guys with a long corny message like last year. These generals turned out being a lot better than I could ever have envisioned them being back when I made the first. Here's to many more.

The process I had for this was:
-have gemini turn the clothed image into a bikini image (it's quite good at retaining style and proportions), inpaint some skin, i2i until nude
-gen some gaps
-mask the images (upscaled than downscaled, to improve detail) together in paint.net
-upscale
So depending on your definition, not much actual inpainting. My style definitely makes it a lot easier though.

I manage to get this 90% done using mask-based regional prompting (including the t2i step). I think I've figured out the trick to using the regional prompting: if it's something that it could theoretically generate, it's perfectly capable of doing it. You just have to bear in mind that it can see the rest of the picture.

Looking back, if I had to smack myself for something, it'd be the constant screwing around with styles and presets. I've established beyond question by now that what I like looking at AND working with is "rough lineart juxtaposed with soft, AI-esque shading" none whatsoever to do with the relative ease of pre-/re-drawing, no saar, but curiosity and overweening settings-tism lead to perpetual experiments that end up making for, I imagine, a confusing Pixiv feed.
And on that note, boy do I suck at sharing this stuff. Never should have started. Can't even eat meals regularly! And they want me to title, tag and upload, too? Crikey.

I honestly think long hair Yuuk is better but that's just me, I'm quite a fan of the fucked up "Brunette Yuuka" for the alt skin she has in Seihou (I'm a huge fan of the alt colours in games in general)
First of all my compliments to the background work nice cozy Garden of the Sun + Muugenkan (even if the idea of Mugenkan being in the Garden of the Sun is something that's not true and I'm pretty sure Imperfect Metamorphosis syncretized by accident) unsure if the sun intentionally looks like Utsuho's orb with how spiky it is but I quite like the sun too
As for Yuuka herself I know it's all anime styles at the end of the day but you and FancyFontAnon / ShinyLightingAnon (don't know what nick to go with) feels like its one of those animes that are trying to be more realistic and grounded with the look instead of stylizing if that makes any sense. As such your gals feel more solid
Like the posing going on, the wings + umbrella really help with framing
now on one hand I don't really sweat that much so I'm not sure if you can sweat enough to get your clothes looking that transparent, and if you did it would probably indicate some very uncomfortable temperatures but on the other hand the visible bra is very titilating
Yuuka is confirmed to be a flower youkai so maybe she just dumped water on herself, now I'm picturing Yuuka just standing out in the open showering with a watering can without a care in the world

it really is and it's not a combo you'd think of since the whole point of short shorts is to show off skin, elevates a "trashy" slutty clothing style (denim short shorts) into something almost sophisticated. Futo canonically controls Feng Shui so damn they got that perfect.

I think I've settled myself on a style I like but honestly I kind of miss experimenting with new styles, I liked it! Sometimes I even look back on some of my older ones and feel like revisiting them again, particularly my squishy no-lineart style (#3). The linear hatching style was fun for a while too but the inconsistency instantly gets rid of any nostalgic feelings of mine... eugh.

See I know you know that I would also know that we all know, it's a nitpick for a reason as otherwise it could be legit (as I did say) it's astonishing to me how many people design Touhou OCs but don't really study ZUN's design principles to avoid doing something unTouhou, though the same could be said for a lot of things. I know writers who are fans of fantastically written work but it feels like they never stopped to study, break down and write what about that work they're a fan of makes it so good so they never replicate what worked from there. Flickerframe Festival is great but it's the most "clearly designed by westerners" fangame I've seen yet with the character designs. One of them has fucking "-ington" as their surname that's "Undertale fan who got into Touhou because of Toby Fox" written all over it.

I don't think people draw Kasen as an actual amputee often enough. Obviously the bandage arm isn't a real arm, even if it completely replaces the functionality of one, but there's still got to be times when the bandage arm isn't available and Kasen has to deal with the mundane issues of not having a right arm.

Christmas gen. Took a lot of work to get the upside-down Yamame, but genning the big fuck-off wings for Tenkai was very fun. I feel like I finally understand inpainting a bit after all of this.

Popularity poll gens were super fun, I think these threads are at their best when someone comes up with a broad challenge that lets people do something unusual, I remember some legend got a "random kink generator" website and combined it with a "random 2hu" generator and posted it in this thread https://warosu.org/jp/thread/49521544 and it resulted in a lot of great gens because people were really stimulated by trying to come up with ideas. Since then I've been trying to be that guy with my requests but at risk of rehashing I'm always tempted to post the exact same request again because it was just that good. Honestly lots of really good gens, my overall favorite is definitely the Keine, the combo of the setting, angle and wet hair/clothes is really cute and genuinely good-looking. Some providers have moderation enabled, it's an external model that checks your prompt. For models that aren't from OpenAI, there are usually alternative providers that don't have it enabled. Oh, it's fuckeder than that. On that version of WAI, it seemed as though it depended on the ambient colour. Had this other gen. Orange lamplight on a wooden floor. The pattern would just NOT stick to it. Cloned it in manually, 0.15 denoise, model still saw it as something else. Obvious solution would be to do it by hand, but I'm nowhere near good enough to do it in a consistent manner. It's the fuckedest thing.

I've tried out chatbots but I don't really self insert into porn and the models are still too simple to really have fun with. Story generation's okay but lacks a lot of context and the better models for that are censored in annoying ways. Text-based AI is really lacking in imagination too so it won't come up with any interesting ideas if you have it take the lead.

Not really, though it will always add some mild variation to the whole image similar to i2i. It does add a watermark to the bottom right and will crop and rescale the image so I'd recommend never using a Gemini output directly, but instead using it as input for your own i2i (often masked into the original image).

So the big corpo video generators was mostly a bust.

SoraAI would spit out a "This might violate our content policies" even on the most SFW image I'd feed it. So I tried Google Veo which gave some better results, but it would vary heavily much like local models and it only gives you 3 credits per day. The following attachment was the best I got before running out. Even then it's not a perfect loop.

Grok wasn't much better, I wouldn't be surprised if it was using a WAN derivative considering how it doesn't want you to sign up for a free trial subscription and doesn't seem to restrict you as much. But most attempts with it would be more choppy framerate wise and with the Elly gen made it super strict and stiff with movement.

Ah well. Worth a shot, but guess generating my own Live2D style desktop wallpapers is yet to come to fruition.

My issue as well. They were novel to screw around with when local models became feasible to run, mucking around with filters and settings, getting them to read passable, but the tech's barely progressed beyond pumping in more and more parameters. And now, if you want to play with something new, you either need several 3090s or to sell your logs to the corpos and, in the latter case, don't even get access to the fun, under-the-hood stuff. While it still falls into the same patterns and errors as it did 2 years ago. Boring!

I mean isn't this highly dependent on the model used and the context size you give to them? What models were you guys using? Were you using local? Were you using DeepSeek or Gemini? I know of a Touhou lorebook that adds information on Gensokyo and the characters. Have you tried using that?

It's been a while since I last used Local but when I did I used L3-8B Stheno on Kobold, other than that I've only ever tried it with whatever the default model is on chub. I used a Touhou lorebook for both and tried my best to properly write character with plenty of context and all of the necessary info.

That's what I'm getting at! Semi-realistic lighting/shading traditionally takes a bunch of manual work, never mind understanding of the physics, for a somewhat unimpressive effect these days; image gen does it at no expenditure, almost by default - even if it isn't always 100% accurate. Side effect of this, of course, is that it's become a hallmark of lazy, low-input prompting. However. Combining the model's ability to render complex lighting with the personal touch of a non-standard style - plus presumed manual fixes, redraws, etc. - that, to my mind, is leveraging the tech while maintaining a measure of creative intent. It's led to its own nasty spillover, right you are. Still, as with baked vs dynamic lighting in vidya, I view this capacity for automation and bypassing of manual labour as, in and of itself, a good thing.
There're degrees of this, questions of execution, personal satisfaction, artistry, yadda yadda, but that's the thrust. And I like to see it taken advantage of. As long as this advantage IS being proactively taken, that is.

Yes and no. Yes, in that the model's "memory" is indeed constrained by the context window. No, in that this is a failing of ALL currently available LLMs, local and server-farmed. Sure, the latter can handle much larger contexts; I don't dispute that. The same holds, though. No matter what you're on, the longer the chat goes on, the worse the model'll grow at retaining and recalling past details. It's young tech; it's got its failings, regardless of how much money's dumped into it.

At this point it's more of a question of availability and how much you're willing to spend on the upper end. Here's a chart for image gen anyway, just treat these values as relative rather than absolute. Nvidia tends to do SD out of the box. AMD cards involve extra tinkering. Vid gen is still at best a novelty and optimizations/workarounds crop up every other week, so it's hard to say anything concrete, but 16GB of VRAM would be a reasonable ball park if you absolutely want to do that. For local chatbots, you can run """decent""" models (8-12B) with as little as 12GB. For SDXL, VRAM capacity isn't really a concern anymore thanks to tiling, but obviously the more the better for potential future solutions.

If I'm being real even assuming the prices drop back down to 2,500 It'd still take me 2 years from this point exactly for me to be able to afford that and given how overcautious I am about spending it'd probably take 4 years for me to build up enough money for me to feel confident in that purchase, and who knows how different the prices will be then
So in a way I'm banking on the price of the current high end or near to high end stuff dropping as it becomes obsolete + the AI gen tech becoming more optimised to the point where I don't need the most high end stuff out now to run it (I absolutely do not care for Triple AAA gaming anyways but I doubt the current trend of bloated filesizes and unoptimized graphics will be getting better so for my purposes the most top tier high end stuff isn't needed)
