Touhou 10 will be 20 years old next year. How does this make you feel?
>>
>>50651693
Sad because I've never encountered a girl like Sanae in my teenage years
>>
>>50651796
They don't exist.
>>
>>50651796
there are no living gods with green hair on earth
>>
>>50651796
Old and out of touch?
>>
>>50651693
Feels like I want to be with Sanae this Valentine's day!
>>
I got into touhou this year so idrc, it's kinda cool the series is so old and still so relevant despite being indie though
>>
>>50651693
I think 2007 was when I first became aware of Touhou's existence. I'm still a secondary who can only beat games on eajy modo.
>>
>>50652828
NTA but you clear them using credits or without? i played some years ago but only finished using credits on easy (only one outside of easy that i finished was 15 with checkpoint)

My nephew called my original 3DS retro one time.

I did but she was overweight.

feels weird to think that the peak of the series was so long ago
>>

EoSD is over 20 years.
>>
>>50654047
The peak of the series was over 30 years ago.

No face.
>>
>>50654564
Technically it turned 30 last year.
It was finished in 1995, even if it was released in '97.
>>
>>50651693
Fine because I only got into touhou half a year ago
>>
>>50654047
The peak was MS to me. I only played the games chronologically up to EoSD. The supposed "last" Touhou game to be really "old work" despite what many and even ZUN would tell you.

What's that, anon?

what specifically about EoSD makes it the last old game? in comparison to the games before and after it, I mean

let's see:
>featuring western european elements and mythos as the prominent plot point i.e vampires
check
>the artstyle is dangerously similar to MS and LLS
check
>even the music sounds out of PC-98
check
>the entire story is VERY lighthearted and not as edgy as yuyuko's backstory and the main fucking character is doing out of their own volition and not from some old hag
All, on, point.

Also, the word "Gensokyo" was only used in one ending, and the fact that it was used on Marisa's route only, should spell it out to you that it was a idiom to begin with. I mean it literally means "fantasy land", and the shit we saw before should be obvious.
>what about the omake
Made AFTER the game was finished, which means that ZUN already had plans for a reboot (which it was PCB).
>>
>>50663994
I see, that makes sense when you put it like that

>Anything wrong with the name Gensokyo?
I'm talking about a misconception that even ZUN followed suit at one point until he started to dislike that game (if his comment on Rin Satsuki at the recent livestream are any indication). Didn't helped that back in 2005, we only had info about the recent titles on the internet, and if there's some info about retro games or anything came before in that era, most are considered lost media at that time. By that, misinformation and rumors like this became so wide spread that it's considered as fact. Which is REALLY ironic.

>You play the games in Japanese?
I switched to Japanese because I thought I can beat EX Stage this game. It didn't
>>
>>50663994
Mechanically I’d agree with it having more in common with the 98 games than it does with what cane after, since everything about scoring is simple and doesn’t involve fucking meters or other weird bullshit.

But without the silly ghost enemies it just does not feel like a 98 game. I miss those fuckers.
>>
>>50667778
>since everything about scoring is simple and doesn’t involve fucking meters or other weird bullshit
The firth game already had one afaik. It's the Dream scoring system, but it's like maxing out your scores for extre lifes if you play it better.

>But without the silly ghost enemies it just does not feel like a 98 game. I miss those fuckers.
They weren't the most dominant enemies on the list unlike the fairies (or spirits if you count their sparse appearances). I'd say that their inclusion make sense in EoSD's narrative, because for one, we already have a stage associate with, and later on we encounter them as servants to the duchess. So it make sense why they were dominant in that game.

Highly Responsive to Prayers isn't really that good
Don't get me wrong, I love the PC98 games and PoDD is my second favorite game
But calling HRtP the peak is nonsense

PoDD, MS, and LLS are indeed peak though
>>
>>50651693
Nothing really
>>
>>50671366
Funnily enough my original joke was that the Touhou was at it's peak when it didn't exist.
But hey, HRtP is a good game, and I'm glad that people are talking about it.

It's nice that ZUN is still kicking, but I don't like thinking too much about the past when things were much simpler.
>>
>>50673369
>simpler
The games nowadays are all the same, much like Pokemon; if you played one, you played all of them. But it's not bad in comparison to the writing and holy fucking shit.
>>
>>50673405
Oh, I meant life in general. I can't help but think of everything when I think of Touhou from a decade ago.
But I think the last few games were all unique in their own regards. Each Touhou is still its own experience. Definitely not to be compared with P*kemon..
>the writing
I feel like only 19 and 20 have missed the mark on that lately by just not being interesting.
As for the manga, yeah.
>>
Stop being so old >:(
>>
>>50666131
What misconception are you even trying to correct?
The setting being called Gensokyo? EoSD being a reboot? Something else?
If Gensokyo is mentioned in game and you're even disregarding the files I can't really agree with you.
A lot of ideas where already floating around before EoSD.
>I switched to Japanese because I thought I can beat EX Stage
Is anything wrong with the English version of the game? Haven't you played the other games in English?

Also not so sure about arstyle and music looking like pc98... But this is very subjective.
Surprised you didn't mention gameplay similarities... I would really recommend to at least try games past EoSD.

>>50673405
>The games nowadays are all the same, much like Pokemon; if you played one, you played all of them.
Heeeeeh?.... idk I have seen a lot of people wanting a "gimmikless" game, wishing for ZUN to go back to a "purer STG" formula.
Only thing that got samey is his artstyle in the last games.. Which a lot of people seem to consider when judging a game before gameplay.

>>50671366
>But calling HRtP the peak is nonsense
I can understand someone considering it the best game since it has a completely different play style. So it could be understandable just like there are some people that really love Phantasmagorias.

>>50673353
It was funny. But I guess most people didn't read the "over"(happens a lot) and read the post misquoting you(also happens a lot).
Many assumptions as usual in Touhou talk...
Also I thought ZUN finished the game by 1996(same year as Pokemon funnily)

Wish I could...

I wish I got the source, but I couldn't find it. I saw this in 8/v/2hu threads, but that site is dead again.

>>50673931
>If Gensokyo is mentioned in game and you're even disregarding the files
If you pretend to don't know the context of what I was saying; and someone already got it, you're doing this out of bad faith.

>A lot of ideas where already floating around before EoSD
Such as?

>Surprised you didn't mention gameplay similarities...
Well it's a bit rough around the edges compared to it's prequel. I mean it makes sense since it was the first game to be launched on XP.
>>
>>50674305
>I wish I got the source, but I couldn't find it. I saw this in 8/v/2hu threads, but that site is dead again.
The one at 2124684.html ? The one with the info on Okina's hair?

>bad faith
I ask because I'm not sure what you meant, is it the name, is it the reboot or something else?
> and someone already got it
A post just asked about a source your source, we don't have confirmation of them getting it.

>Such as?
Maybe one relating to the very point your talking about! The one I'm still not sure about.

>Well it's a bit rough around the edges compared to it's prequel.
Not what I meant. I mean that there are mechanics that make EoSD closer to a pc98, adding to your point of EoSD being like a pc98 game.

Also still wondering if something is wrong with the English version of EoSD. That game is probably the one with the most issues in modern systems

I'm sorry if I'm writing in a rude way but I have barely any social skills. But I'm curious about what your point is exactly.
