If it's your first doll, try a stock MDD! They're easiest to find clothes for compared to DDP and the different proportions to of the Mochi-Ashi legs. On the other hand, if your heart truly leans towards one size/shape over the others, maybe go for it! There are no wrong answers.

>Whats a good camera to start taking photos with?
This is highly dependent on budget, bells-and -whistles, and personal preference.
Budget would be a cellphone with tripod.
A several years old DSLR from Canon can be cheap quite too.
Most doll/photohraphy pros would go for a full frame Sony a7v. (Sony Alpha 7 V) or even a fancier Leica cameras. The rabbit hole is deep here.
A swivel touch screen is a nice thing on the camera for doll photos so you don't have bend as down low much.

>What's a good camera to start taking photos with
Like the other anon said, a phone camera will be fine for a great deal of people. If you're unsure about spending money, try shooting with your phone for a while to see how much you like those shots. If you find you still want more, you can buy an older model refurb dslr for a couple hundred, and that'll give you a taste for what it's like shooting with a real camera. If you stick with that for a while, you'll come to what you like and dislike about photography, and you can use that to help influence any future upgrades, being new lenses or new bodies. I just recently upgraded my old d3300 (which I bought used) to a new zf (both are Nikon camera) and it's been fun getting used to a new camera.
The hard truth is that you can take good and bad photos with any camera, so don't feel like you need to spend a lot of money in order to "get started" with photography. Something, something, the best camera is the one you have with you. I am also fairly new to taking photography seriously, so take all I say with a grain of salt.

After 11 years, she finally gets her signature accessory that nobody else (as far as I'm aware) made.

I think it may have been in an /a/ radio thread, but I remember someone asking "do people really buy expensive DSLRs just to take photos of dolls" and the response being, "No, we buy the even more expensive latest top-of-the-line mirrorless cameras to take photos of dolls". I just joined that club recently.
But don't jump into that if you're just starting out; like others said your phone works fine and old used gear is a good starting place.
>>
>>50659532
I can say a friend of mine bought an expensive birding scope just to look at birds, at a comparable cost to an entry-level DSLR. Hobbies drive us to do things that others may find strange, but we're all having fun at the end of the day. (How are mirrorless cameras? I'm still using ye olde Pentax K1 and I have no idea what modern cameras are up to.)

Yeah even my new gear pales in comparison to my birder friend's; there's always a bigger fish. But coming from a D3400, the change is pretty crazy. Full frame sensor size and megapixel count aside, the new functionality is a huge step up. I won't be just using this for dolls; I'll be shooting sports with it occasionally business purposes. All of the autofocus benefits that weren't possible with the DSLR PDAF are a good addition for that, plus video functionality which I do expect will be needed. Low light/high ISO performance is greatly improved. For shooting dolls, my most appreciated new features I have access to are focus peaking and having a histogram on the display just when framing up a shot. Focus shift and pixel shift shooting are neat, but require processing later to get benefits out of them. Focus shift seems particularly useful for dolls to cheat depth of field. Pixel shift, not so much since I don't think I'll be printing things big enough to make good use of the enhanced resolution. It does enhance color accuracy since each pixel on the final image gets all red/green/blue sensitive sensor pixel data, if I care about that.
Overall, probably about the same noticeable difference going from the consumer grade D3400 to a pro grade DSLR. Mirrorless adds fancy autofocus/video options.
>>
>>50659105
Yes! I like her collar/choker
>>
quite frankly no one should start with a DSLR these days. used mirrorless cameras still run a bit higher than used DSLRs, but they're way easier for beginners to get into photography with now due to improvements to autofocus and other things. I'd only recommend a DSLR if you're literally completely broke, otherwise mirorless cameras are the way to go
>>
I think I'll just pull out my grandfather's old reflex.
>>
>>50659782
Damn anon, good sales pitch. Might look into that whenever I get the opportunity -- cheers.
>>
>>50659782
>For shooting dolls, my most appreciated new features I have access to are focus peaking and having a histogram on the display just when framing up a shot.

Sony NEX cameras had both of these 15 years ago. I think the specific model of camera is largely irrelevant for doll photos. They're incredibly still and patient subjects, after all.
>>
>>50660806
>They're incredibly still and patient subjects, after all
Yours might be. Mine seem to have a tendency to throw themselves to the floor and throw a tantrum whenever I'm ready for photos.
>>
>>50660178
Recommend me a used mirrorless. Preferably under $300
>>
are we /p/ now?
Mirrorless is the future, don't get me wrong, but a DSLR is fine too if you're just starting out, especially if you're not going to be using the camera for anything but doll photos and don't know how to use a complex camera at all yet. Just don't invest too much in lenses or accessories as it is a dying format. In the mean time, if you're looking at getting one, you should invest in and learn to use a simple lighting set up too, don't worry they're cheap. Even if you're shooting outside, a reflector screen and knowing how to use one can transform your photos.

>>50661464
Yes, I'm 99% sure this was printed with a FDM printer. Looks like they used the fuzzy skin slicer setting to obscure the layer lines on the body a bit.

>Sony NEX cameras had both of these 15 years ago.
Even if it's old tech I still appreciate those features, now having access to them vs. not having them before.
>I think the specific model of camera is largely irrelevant for doll photos.
Agree. My recommendation would be what >>50661395 said; improve lighting and use a tripod and voila your phone photos just got twice as good.

>>50661395
>are we /p/ now?
No, we actually post photos instead of only talking about gear
>>
>>50657478
How hard is it to find clothes for MDD with an L size chest part..? Haha..
>>
>>50661998
It depends on the type of clothes. Anything stretchy or loose-fitting like sweaters and so on will be no problem, but more form-fitting clothes might be tricky. I don't have an L-chest MDD, so hopefully someone else can weigh in? Probably still has more support than DDPs though.
>>
>>50661998
not that hard, but you do have to double check that the makers design their clothes for L sizes. some do, some don't, just make sure to read the fine print

I haven't found the motivation to take pictures of my dolls lately, but I did consider getting a dlsr because the optical viewfinder might make my typically low light setups a little less annoying. The amount of noise in the viewfinder for my current mirrorless in very low light makes setting up shots a little annoying and there were more than a few times when I scrapped maybe 20-30 minutes worth of pictures because they weren't focused how I wanted when I opened them in light room.
